October 3, 2006
Congressman Dave Reichert
2737 78th Ave SE
Suite 202, Second Floor
Mercer Island, WA 98040Dear Congressman Reichert,
I write to you today as a constituent and mother. We cannot compromise the safety of our children and the integrity of the House of Representatives, so we must set partisanship aside and stand together on principle.
The disgraceful acts committed by former Congressman Mark Foley are a black mark on the halls of the people’s House. The inaction of the House leadership in addressing the issue only makes it worse.
Today you released a statement in support of an investigation of this matter. An investigation is called for, but insufficient. An investigation is certainly in order, so is the immediate resignation of those House leaders who knew about Mark Foley’s grossly inappropriate communications with young pages.
Today the editorial board of the Washington Times called on Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert to resign. The paper writes “Either he was grossly negligent for not taking the red flags fully into account and ordering a swift investigation, for not even remembering the order of events leading up to last week’s revelations — or he deliberately looked the other way in hopes that a brewing scandal would simply blow away…. Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance.”
Dennis Hastert’s ineffective handling of this issue follows numerous other scandals that have plagued our Congress under his watch, including the indictment of former House Speaker Tom DeLay, the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and the conviction of Rep. Duke Cunningham. There’s no more room for excuses. We need a substantial change in the leadership of the House of Representatives.
I ask you to join me in calling for the resignation of Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Sincerely,
Darcy Burner

WHAAAAAT? The Moonie Gazette? The rag that prints bullshit so Limbaugh can quote it? And ABC is merrily spewing the content of all the IM messages?
I smell a rat here folks. This is looking like it might be something like the Dan Rather saga on a much larger scale. Can’t halp but wonder if this is going to be allowed to fester for another week or so, then we get some revelation that the whole thing was faked, supposedly by some Democratic staffer. And there may the makings of Rove’s “October surprise”.
It’s long since reached the point where I wouldn’t put ANYTHING past these creeps.
For the Clueless spews:
1 – Naaahh. An independent group was haranguing the FBI to do something a while back. The pages have IM logs.
Foley was compulsive. The R leadership looked the other way. Slam dunk.
To wingnuts: take WingNut Daily off your reading list. Joe Farrah has decided the Republicans are too liberal for him.

Art,
Nothing there. The GOP wants to get this behind them, pronto. If Hastert has to take the fall, such is life. A good soldier taking one for the team. In this manner the whole sorry saga looses its most malignant political fallout, and the GOP can crow about “cleaning house” and “standing up for values” enabling them to return to prattling on about Dems being “cut-‘n-runners”.
I used this technique myself. It works. Ask Bukharin.
My Left Foot spews:
As we are now into day 5 of Foleygate, where is Janet S. and proudofherfatlyingthreateningass? They have yet weigh in here on this issue.
Where do you stand ladies? Hastert resign? Are you outraged at the coverup? Are you outraged at the grooming of minors? Or do you agree with Drudge and O’Lielly, it was the kids fault?
Funny how that works.

It would’ve provided Hastert with the perfect cover story.

Given Reicherts track record of catching serial criminals, it would’ve taken Reichert 20 years to catch Foley.

Why did Denny Hastert ignore the news that a House member who was well-known to aggresively pursue House pages was e-mailing a young man who complained that it ws “sick?”
Well it’s really sad. You see, Denny Hastert has a serious drinking problem. On top of that, he was sexually molested as a teenager himself. So you can’t blame him.
Daddy Love spews:
I never thought I would say this, but I agree with Joe Stalin.
The best thing we can hope for is Hastert standing tall right up to November 7.
Daddy Love spews:
Foley’s lawyer just said on TV that “There was absolutely never any inappropriate sexual contact with any minor.”
Ummm, I think that’s an answer to the wrong question. If 16 is the age of consent, then the meaning of “is” is that we need to ask specifically whether Foley had sex with anyone under 18, and with anyone he met in the page program.
ArtFart spews:
Be it noted, while we’ve all been conveniently distracted by “buggergate”, the GOP managed to hand Bush another um-de-ump billion dollars to send American soldiers only a few years older than the Congressional pages off to kill and be killed in his beloved senseless war.
I honestly don’t know which is more perverted.

Did you all demand that the Democrat leadership resign when Barney Franks gave up his house seat after it was learned that he was running a prostitute ring out of his residence? Oh, wait. Franks didn’t resign.
Did you all demand that the Democrat leadership resign when Gerry Studds was caught with a 17 year old page, and resigned his seat? Darn, another one who didn’t resign in the face of scandal.
Have you all demanded that the reporter from ABC who has been sitting on all these IMs for months, and thereby putting the pages at great risk? I guess not. That’s different.
Foley should have resigned. But so should William Jefferson. And what about Cynthia McKinney? Never heard anything from any of you. Jack Murtha is not only feeding govt contracts to his brother, but he has slandered the US military troops. He also has made many quite wealthy with his pork. And the guy from West Virginia? Not a word from you. Why? Because they are Democrats, and so a lower standard of behavior is expected.
paco and taco spews:
Whoo-hoo, did you hear Darcy on the Ron & Don Show tonight? Seems Reichert was slated to come on at 5:05 to discuss the Seattle Times article and Democrat charges against him but, true to his cowardly nature, he took a powder instead. And smart move, Ron and Don – she’s a far better speaker than the empty suit!
K spews:
Well, Mark, Monica was not a minor. And Janet, so “you did it too” is your best response? As for Murtha slandering troops, bullshit. He criticizes the leadership.
You guys run on that. We’ll see how it turns out.
Janet S spews:
Did you see the part where I said Foley was right to resign? I missed your part where you say, yes, I agree, and so should the dems.
I also see where Murtha holds the power in the house, doling out earmarks to those who vote as he tells them. He even has an unofficial seat in the chamber that all the Dems are scared to sit in. I wonder if Inslee, McDermott, Larsen et all kiss his a$$ the same way all the other dems do. Seems he will have a leadership position if Pelosi takes over. Just wait for the corruption fun to really start then!
K spews:
You mean more corruption than Abramoff and Company?
Wasn’t so long ago Murtha was the WHite House’s favorite Democrat. Now he’s a threat. THe Democrats did make Jefferson give up his committee assignments. THey can’t make him resign (he should).
THe Republicans should take away leadership from those who deliberately hid this scandal. To so clearly put keeping powerabove morals is disgraceful. THen again they sold their fiscal principles to the highest bidder, so it’s just another step.
Janet S spews:
Should ABC fire their reporter for sitting on information about teens being preyed on? How about all the Democrats who knew about it, but decided that it was better to spring this right before the election, rather than protect the teens by outing Foley sooner?
This isn’t a partisan scandal. Pelosi was in a position to know as much as Hastert and the rest of the Republican leadership. Should she resign? Why not? Why do you assume Hastert knew, but she didn’t?
JDB spews:
Janet S, you ignorant slut,
How was Pelosi in the same position to know?
They didn’t even tell the Democrat on the Page Board.
Boehner and Renoylds are both saying it was Haserts duty to check it out.
This is purely a GOP thing.

Janet S spews:
JDB – I don’t buy it. How long has ABC known? Who told them? CREW is a Soros-owned place, so the dems were in a position to know that this was coming. I have troubles listening to the Democrats bleating about the children, when they were in an equal position to call an end to this months ago. Hastert didn’t know, and didn’t pursue it. Please give me a single piece of evidence that any one in the Democratic leadership knew more than Hastert, Boehner or Reynolds? Or knew anything before Hastert, Boehner or Reynolds. As for CREW, they gave the information ot the FBI in July. Hastert, Boehner and Reynolds did nothing until it was made public. I guess you would have rather CREW just covered it up like the GOP did?

David spews:
I remember the Studds/Crane congressional page scandal and there were many many people, Dems and Reps, that called on both of them to resign. Both congressmen refused to resign, and the terms for removing a congressman from office did not apply. Unfortunately, after the House Ethics Committe Investigation, the committe decided on a censure.
After the censure, it was up to the voters of their states to decide whether or not to re-elect them.
Please note that a House Ethics Committee Investigation was part of this procedure.
I remember the Barney Franks case as well. Mr. Franks was asked to resign by many many people, both Dems and Reps. He refused and the House Ethics Committee Investigation and police investigation found that he had no knowledge of the prostitution ring and when he did find out about it, he immediately took steps to stop it. Because of this, the rules on removing a member of the house did not apply. He was censured. After the censure, it was up to the voters in his state to decide whether to re-elect him.
Once again there was a House Ethics Committee Investigation involved in this process.
Now please, stop with the “but..but..but..Clinton!” and the “Democrats must have done this on purpose right before the election” crap.
Here is what probably happened. A Republican lawmaker or a Republican staffer with integrity and morals is told about Mr. Foley very soon after Mr. Hastert and crew find out about it.
They wait and wait for something to be done, an ethics committee investigation or at least Mr. Foley being asked to step down from the committee, something; unfortunately it’s getting close to summer of 2006 and there is a new group of interns coming and Mr. Foley could be elected to another term of office in the fall.
So, they leak the story to the press, because they don’t want to see more pages put into this situation, hoping by this to force the issue and remove a pedophile from where they can take advantage of kids.
Here’s the thing. The Republican Party has been campaigning for years on the “WE are more moral and ethical than them. WE stand for families and America and Morality. WE have integrity and believe that no one should be able to use ‘victimhood’ to get off from crimes. WE stand for law and order.”
Rather than whining “It’s all the pages/democrats/medias/clintons fault” they should have stated firmly, as soon as they found out about Mr. Foley last year – “Mr. Foley is no longer part of the “missing and exploited children” committee.” They should have asked him to resign, and publicly launched an ethics committee investigation.
If they had done so, then they would be backing up their talk with actions. The problem they now face on this is many people in their voter base are now questioning what else they say that they aren’t backing up by actions.

E-3 GBS, Been many years and I had little to do with missiles. My experience was Newport Class LSTs in the Western Pacific [home based in San Diego, Ca] In Gunnery (something that an old-timer like me would know more about) you have terminology like “Hangfire” and “Misfire”. I would assume that in missiles it would be the same – but would not swear to it. If you have a “hangfire”, you wait a length of time (5 mins unless you have a HOT GUN) to see if it will be a delayed fire. If after 5 mins, the projectile does not leave the barrel on its own, you classify it as a misfire and take other steps to remove the round (open breech and remove). However, if you have a hangfire in a hot gun (determined by the number of rounds fired in a specific length of time), you would take other steps because of the concern for a “cook-off” due to the projectile/powder case sitting in a hot barrel. The steps include external and internal cooling of the barrel. We trained by cooling the barrel with fresh and salt water. Again, 3 inch/50s have little to do with today’s weapons. That was your last question, E-3 GBS. Report to your LPO ASAP!!!

Hey Darcy, if you are running for the US Congress, shouldn’t you be more interested in holding up the US Constitution? Take a careful read here folks. Look especially at those magic words…. If Hastert is shown to have had knowledge of this horrible act, committed by a US Congressman, then I will personally join you in requesting his resignation not only as the Speaker, but from Congress as well. Why do you insist on passing judgement based on an incomplete investigation with no hard evidence, yet? Tell me, when Clinton was accused of wrongdoing under Whitewater, did you call for his resignation? Or did you use common sense, and decide to wait until all of the facts were presented and then reached your a decision?

“ If Hastert is shown to have had knowledge of this horrible act”
You mean if, say, the House Majority Leader, the Charirman of the House Page Board, and the Representative who heads up the House Republican Congressional Committee say he knew? Or would that not satisfy you?

Hey, you’ve got me convinced. Are you going to tell all the Republicans who are claiming it’s a Democratic, George-Soros-backed election-year trick to wait for an official investigation, wait for all of the facts to come out, then pass judgement?
Are you going to tell the parents of Congressional pages that they should Wait for an official investigation, wait for all of the facts to come out, then pass judgement?
No? You’re just going to tell the people who have already heard three top House republicnas say they told the Speaker and he did nothing that we don’t really know that this is true.

I’ll be sure to wait for the investigation because God knows I wouldn’t want to believe this just because it’s the guy closest to all the principals who’s saying it…
This is why throwing the stooges to the wolves can, appropriately enough, come back to bite you in the ass. Kirk Fordham, the (be patient) former Chief of Staff for Rep. Foley, and more recently Chief of Staff for Rep. Reynolds of the RCCC, who has been “advising” Rep. Foley for about a week now, and who approached ABC last week to try to bribe them into suppressing the Foley IM story, was fired from his job as Reynolds CoS, and it looked like the GOP was going to try to pin as much of this as they would on him.
Well, does Fordham have the last laugh? That is, the last laugh as he’s biting them in the ass while being thrown to the wolves? (sorry) It turns out that he now says he had multiple conversations about Foley with “senior staff at the highest level of the House of Representatives” way back in 2004. But they did nothing.

I’m sure when you say “wait for the investigation” you mean like CREW waited for the FBI to investigate. Right?
Daddy Love spews:
on CNN TV they just had 2 more pages admitting they got IMs that were sexual in nature from Foley.
I think the “investigation” is what we’re seeing, UF. Like it?
Daddy Love spews:
Re: Kirk Fordham
Fordham also says he’ll disclose to the FBI and House ethics committee “any and all meetings and phone calls” regarding Foley’s behavior that he had with senior leadership staffers. In other words, this is just getting started.

That would be the National Republican Congressional Committee, or NRCC.

MaMa Hate,
Once again, you are jumping to conclusions. Let me try to spell this out at a 3rd Grade level….. The Media (Yes that includes CNN and FOX) are not a Grand Jury, a Judge or a Jury. So far, you are willing to convict on what the media reports. And god knows that the media has never been wrong. Tell you what, I will agree with you and even write a letter to call for the resignation of Speaker Hastert, if you agree that all of the following “Convicted” individuals should have to pay back any restitution and serve out their original sentences…

All of these cases were reported in the Media as being guilty and guess what, Turns out they weren’t. Look, I’m not saying that this should become another OJ issue. And the evidence is stacking up. But even your misguided mind must realize that sometimes the media makes mistakes. In fact, just the other day there was a teenager on a very popular nation wide news program that claimed to be a person with intimate knowledge of a recent school shooting. Turns out, the kid was lying and trying to further his own personal career. Yes, for me it is as simple as waiting for all of the facts to come out. I’m not an irrational close minded Lib. Hell, I even defend President Clinton on a regular basis with all of my NeoCon friends. Long story short, you are angry and willing to lash out with all the facts. Sorry MaMa hate, that just isn’t me.
