Oh, and also… yeah, Darcy came short this time (but hey, if she wants another swing or maybe wants to shoot for the 5th LD, by all means, she should- not that I would think she should get a freeride in a primary). The 8th is still a swing/lean D district, and with a load of D legislators that people in the 8th are used to voting for, the idea that Reichert’s going to get free rides from now on is a joke. The D’s will be targeting this district from now until it flips, and Smiling Sheriff Dave better get used to well-financed and good challengers.

I think it’s pretty clear Burner is going to lose. The ballots yet to be counted would have to counter strongly the current county wide results.
So King County opens the door, through their incompetence, for more potential cries of “fraud” by someone, if the election doesn’t go their way. Those in chare of KCRE need to be held accountible for this, starting with Ron Sims. I thought part of this Democratic sweep was about accountibility. A good place to start would be KCRE.

It’s sad that Burner, a total political unknown, wasn’t able to beat Reichert this cycle. She was an amazingly good candidate, considering that she was A TOTAL POLITICAL UNKNOWN. Looking at the vote, however, if Burner, a total political unknown, could get 49%, really that share of the vote is a solid vote repudiating Reichert. I like Burner personally, but Washington voters are uncomfortable with first-time candidates aiming for higher offices like Congress, and that worked against Burner. In talking with my friends on the Eastside what it largely came down to was, they could think of a lot of reasons to vote *against* Reichert but not many to vote *for* Burner. If she’d had a little more political time at sea, so to speak, they’d have more experience to hang their votes on.
I think what success Burner had this cycle proves that had someone, say a State Democratic or DCCC Chair, recruited a strong candidate with even the smallest amount of political experience, say a city councilman or legislator (Ross Hunter or Judy Clibborn could have walked away with it), we’d have our first Democrat from the 8th CD going to Congress in January. It a shame that didn’t happen. A total shame.
It’s nice that Pelz and Emmanuel showed up for the final act, but had they been there during the prelude, the fat lady would be singing a different tune.

“Would” is a verb in the subjunctive tense, and you used it because you are postulating what his action hould have been if some contrary-to-fact scenario came about. That is sheer speculation on your part, and thus no valid conclusion can be drawn from it.
As far as Goldy being the “bigger” person, I think that because you don’t see him screaming “fraud,” spreading scurrilous and baseless rumors about election shenaigans, or filing a lawsuit to overturn the election, he’s already being the bigger person than any Republican we have seen in the last four years or so.

What exactly did I say that is inaccurate or insulting? During the 2005 King County Executive race itwas pretty clear Goldy was being fed info from the Sims camp. I’d suspect the same is true of Burner’s campaign. Apparently, in your mind, calling someone a propaganda tool when they are one, makes a person an a**hole. Interesting argument.
And Goldy is absolutely right; claims of victory and concessions mean absolutely nothing. NOTHING. While my personal guess is that Burner lost, the fact remains we don’t know who won until all the ballots are counted, and if the race flips in the late count a concession speech has no legal effect and the candidate who got the most votes still wins. But don’t try to explain such a simple concept to a wingnut. Wingnuts are the epitome of human ignorance, stupidity, and dishonesty.

I can’t (and don’t) argue with you, but I simply don’t see the need for a concession speech before all the votes have been counted. Remember how much trouble that caused in 2000! It’s up to Burner whether/when to concede. If she wants to concede today I have no quarrel with that. But if the race flips in the final ballots, she wins. I just want to make sure our wingnut friends understand that. And I want my liberal friends to understand that premature concessions play into the hands of the wingnut conspiracy nuts who claim that any election which flips in the late count must have been “stolen.” Why should we make things easier for these liars? Well, it looks like Darcy will concede this morning at 11. The count on the WA SecState page shows her down by 4700 votes, though still at 49%-51%.
So this year a Democrat comes closer than anyone ever has before to winning in WA-08, a seat that has never been Democratic. I don’t consider that a failure, and I am committed to a Democrat taking this seat in 2008.

HOW BELL SHAPED CURVES WORK
A bell shaped curve is a probability diagram. The greatest probabilities (i.e., the likeliest results) are grouped in the center, at the peak of the curve. People who talk about and graph probabilities always focus on the peak of the curve and almost almost forget that way out there on the ends, where the probability of something happening is only 1%, the PROBABILITY IS NOT ZERO. It CAN happen … DOES happen … in 1% of the cases. At this point, Burner has maybe a 1% chance that the final votes will break over 60-40 in her favor. I repeat, the probability of that happening is low but IS NOT ZERO.

I base my opinion on Goldy’s volume of attack posts on Reichert and Irons. I seriously doubt all that info came from “raking his own muck”. But if Goldy wants to contradict that, and say he’s not received and posted information from either the Burner or Sims campaign, then I’ll retract my statement.

Item #2: The qualifications for the House of Representatives are:
“No person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five years, and been seven years a citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state in which he shall be chosen.” — U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 2.
Those are the qualifications — all of them. There aren’t any more. Please explain which of these three qualifications Burner fails to meet.

Now, “arrest warrants have been issued for several senior police commanders in connection with the abductions, Iraqi officials said today.” Those arrest warrants were issued by the same Interior Ministry that is itself shot through with insurgents and/or militia elements and which is believed by pretty much everyone to be responsible for the Shi’ite death squads executing Sunnis every day in Iraq. That’s why today “a public servant who saw the raid said the gunmen checked identity cards to sort Sunnis from Shiites, then drove off with only Sunni men.”
So, the Republicans control Congress and Bush is the president. What’s the plan? How are they going to respond? What’s the strategery? I’m sure it’ll be a winner.

Reichert is in for a big surprise in the new Congress – he’ll need to work. Burner came very close and would have won if not for many millions for the national GOP. Jennifer Dunn used to be an money intake for the GOP, not a huge stupid money pit Reichert has become. His district is in play and his meager win indicates that he’s at the top of the endangered list next cycle.
Burner turned out to be a great candidate. But she never really put together much of a winning rural strategy even though she knew she needed one.
You can be sure that Reichert will say and do a bunch of stupid things between now and the next election – that’s how he is. It might get easier next cycle for him to bumble himself out of a job.
