Hey, remember those mobile “biolabs” that President Bush claimed as proof positive of Iraq’s WMD program… you know, the ones that eventually turned out not to be biolabs after all? Well, the Washington Post reports today that the Bush administration knew these weren’t really biolabs all along:
On May 29, 2003, 50 days after the fall of Baghdad, President Bush proclaimed a fresh victory for his administration in Iraq: Two small trailers captured by U.S. and Kurdish troops had turned out to be long-sought mobile “biological laboratories.” He declared, “We have found the weapons of mass destruction.”
The claim, repeated by top administration officials for months afterward, was hailed at the time as a vindication of the decision to go to war. But even as Bush spoke, U.S. intelligence officials possessed powerful evidence that it was not true.
A secret fact-finding mission to Iraq — not made public until now — had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons. Leaders of the Pentagon-sponsored mission transmitted their unanimous findings to Washington in a field report on May 27, 2003, two days before the president’s statement.
The three-page field report and a 122-page final report three weeks later were stamped “secret” and shelved. Meanwhile, for nearly a year, administration and intelligence officials continued to publicly assert that the trailers were weapons factories.
As if we needed any further evidence to convince us that President Bush has been blatantly lying to the American public for years.

I remember a CIA report published at about the time the Pres. made the statement. The report looked like a bunch of BS at the time. Photographs in the report showed that much of the equipment that made up the purported “Iraqi secret bio weapons facility” were labeled “Made in Iraq” – in English!

They then had to send out the Energy Secretary and others to say when Bush said that, he was in fact just speaking hypothetically.
So, when Bush said that the trailers proved there were WMD, he was, in fact, just speaking hypothetically. Similar to how we now know that when Bush said he wanted to know who was leaking in his administration so they could be punished, he in fact knew that he was the one that was doing the leaking.

You are incorrect in your surmise that “it is actually Goldy lying and Bush telling the truth on this one.” It MIGHT be true that Bush was just being fed a daily diet of happy-talk bullshit, but his administraion knew that the biolabs were not biolabs. Your links say that “DIA published their own report in conjunction with the CIA, as Power Line reported today, which concluded that the trailers were indeed part of the WMD program of Iraq.” But the DIA was the in-house agency that Rummy created with Doug Feith to cook up juicier intel, even though it was not true, because the CIA was not giving them the “slam-dunk” conclusions they were after. In true bushian fashion, it was and is staffed not by intelligence experts, but by political operatives. To put it baldly, the DIA has been wrong on everything it concluded from start to finish.
And when your source says that “two teams of military experts who viewed the trailers soon after their discovery concluded that the facilities were weapons labs,” keep in mind that those military experts were not biological wepaons scientists. The team cited in the WaPo was “a team of volunteers, eight Americans and a Briton, each with at least a decade of experience in one of the essential technical skills needed for bioweapons production. All were nongovernment employees working for defense contractors or the Energy Department’s national labs.” This team was, you know, the top experts in the field. They know. They reported. They figured it out within the first few hours, though they continueed asnd documented it extensively. WaPo goe son to say: “In the end, the final report — 19 pages plus a 103-page appendix — remained nequivocal in declaring the trailers unsuitable for weapons production. ‘It was very assertive,’ said one weapons expert familiar with the report’s contents. Then, their mission completed, the team members returned to their jobs and watched as their work appeared to vanish.”
Translation: Bush administration classified and buried it while continuing to claim the opposite of its conclusions.
Hey, even Scott Mclellan himself said that “an independent commission on Iraq had already determined the intelligence on alleged Iraqi biological weapons was wrong.”
And, of course, the Iraqi Survey Group, which led the official search for Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, issue a “final report in September 2004 — 15 months after the technical report was written — said the trailers were ‘impractical’ for biological weapons production and were ‘almost certainly intended’ for manufacturing hydrogen for weather balloons.
