  2. Eurostar ordering a double deck version of Alstom’s Amelia Horizon high speed train. This will probably be a first for double-decker trains on Britains railway network, which some of it is celebrating its 200th Anniversary. Most of Britain’s network while standard gauge, has a narrow loading gauge, partly due to rails close to each other. In the late 90s, the Folkstone to London-St Pancras was upgraded to the Continental loading gauge, to allow for such operation in the future.

    Probably going to be needing the capacity, as Eurostar will not be the only game in town with London to Paros, Brussels, Koln, and Amsterdam services via the Chunnel. EU mandated railway liberalization has now spread to international and high speed passenger services, so train paths through the tunnel will be at a premium.

  25. This weekend Dallas Area Rapid Transit opened its long awaited Silver Line between Plano and DFW Airport.. This route further blurs the distinction between types of Rail Transit in the United States. DART calls it Regional Rail, but a new term is Hybrid Rail. Mainly applies to using non Tier 1 FRA compliant vehicles on mainline freight routes, although with an alternate standard, some of those are now technically compliant.

    The rolling stock the SILVER Line uses is a Stadler FLIRT Diesel Multiple Unit. The platform is also offered in Diesel-Electric, Electric, Battery-Electric, and Hydrogen, Just here in the PNW, possible uses are endless. One lost opportunity, the Burke-Gilman Trail, all the way to North Bend, although some portions could have been straightened out following the highway.

  31. MAGA feels the system has failed them. Norms feels the system has failed them. Each side feels their government has failed to deliver what they wanted it to do, and what they thought they had been voting for, for decades. The problem Norm goals are diametrically opposed to MAGA goals.

    Norms want clean air, clean water for everybody, good safe schools, enough to eat for everybody, affordable health care for everybody, affordable housing for everybody, a decent standard of living for everybody, women to have control of their bodies, marriage equality, racial equality. That sort of thing. The American government was slowly improving opportunity for all Americans.

    The problem is ALL of that horrifies MAGA. Modernity and Change terrify them, and have left most of the confused and angry. They feel their straight white conservative christian privilege was stolen from them and they want it back by any means. Any. Because they were robbed.

    They have been told endlessly that the scapegoats of black and brown people, Immigrants, Liberals, LGBTQ, uppity women are the mystical reasons why MAGA’s lives suck. Liberals have stolen MAGA’s “American Dream” and destroyed it with change, the rise of science and rational thought, individualism, industrialization, urbanization, diversity, equity and inclusion.

    The republican base doesn’t see themselves as villains, and they never will. They see themselves as real American patriots forced by decadent liberal culture to allow the scapegoats to steal the privilege that is so rightfully theirs. Democratic government is letting it happen. So they will put up with a corrupt republican dictatorship that steals from them, if it means they feel they are getting a shred of their privilege back.

    This is why they are immune to Democratic persuasion. They don’t what what the Norms want.

    All this was according to a gamer acquaintance who knew them for 6 years.

    Lance was the psycho one. Really off the charts.. Doing bad substance abuse and what not. Was kicked out of his Mormon parents house even before he was 18.     The method used for electing the Dail is even more disadvantageous to rigging. Back when the Dail itself drew the districts they tried. Finna Gail tried to suppress Finna Fail in Dublin by making all Dublin Consituencies three seats, ensuring FF only got one seat in each. It backfired, as it didn’t take into account a surge in support for FF. The Dail uses a Single Transferable Vote system instituted by the British on their way out. It’s a proportional system that uses a quota based on number of seats in district. For a 3 seat district, 26% is the quota, but a 5 seat, the biggest constituency size in Ireland, it’s 16.7%.

    By the time the election the FG-Labor Government had devised this Tullymandering as it was called, Finna Fail support in Dublin had rebounded, and instead of the 3 way split the riggers were expecting , FF took two seats I all the GDA districts.

    Unlike RCV in Single Seat districts, states currently cannot use the Proportional version in Congress even if the voters approved it. A meant well at the time law passed to reinforce the VRA mandates single seat-seat districts.
