Looking forward to this Ken Burns special next week:
I no longer use Twitter or Facebook because Nazis. But until BlueSky is bought and enshittified, you can still follow me at @goldyha.bsky.social
One of my right wing relatives forwarded an e-mail to me today that claimed that Candidate Obama said this on meet the press that he thinks the flag is a symbol of oppression, that he’s attended flag burning ceremonies and:
“It’s my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren.”
Even though we deal with
the moronic fringe of societyPuddy I’m amazed that this several year old bit still circulates. No matter what you think of any president, this sounds reasonable to people? Sounds reasonable that this wasn’t a 24/7 McCain ad during the election? Do a simple google check before passing it along?I just responded with relevant Snopes-type links and, “I feel bad that you are so intellectually incurious that you didn’t think for a second that this might not be true.”
I recommend reading Daniel Okrent’s “Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition. It details how politics were consumed (no pun intended) by politicians who stood as wet or dry and how the influence of groups like the ASL (Anti Saloon League) that gain power that lobbyists today are envious.
This is too funny.
Marcus Bachmann’s beard, AKA Presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann, thinks that Hezboooolahh is setting up missile bases, MISSILE BASES!, in CUBAAAAA!
Crazy Lady! I’ll miss her.
Joe McGinnis’ “The Rogue” is in the bookstores and man oh man it looks like a DAMN GOOD READ:
http://politicalgates.blogspot.....nniss.html
I LOVE IT!!!
Sound similar to the HA arschloch yesterday trying to blame
on Conservatives when the SEIU did it themselves!
@4
So does this mean you gonna leave the house and purchase the book or will you send Mrs arschloch out to get it for you?
You are DISGUSTING!
LMAO!!! Looks like there’s a zombie stalker out there!
Yikes, the stench..
The 2nd season of The Walking Dead airs on 10/16.. Give it a watch folks!
re 5: Isn’t ‘deregulation’ anarchy? After all, regulations are the rules and laws that one must abide by.
Just to make it clear, so that even you can understand it: Would you be in favor of deregulating bank robbery?
And of course there is no animus over this moron’s comments!
From the HA arschloch who stalked Puddy in multiple threads with 16 different captured HA blog links! Each one an EPIC FAYLE!
ROTFLRHMBBAO!
A laugh a nanosecond with this HA arschloch moron!
Heh. I like this comment from the Firedoglake book salon on “The Rogue”:
http://fdlbooksalon.com/2011/0.....mcginniss/
Yet the smelly walking dead zombies among us claim questions about Trig were manufactured on the Daily Kos.
Damn do we need more journalists like Joe McGinnis!
Same link as 11.
re 9: “animus”????
@3
There’s video of it here:

Hey all, vicious right-wing attack on Elizabeth Warren!
Asshole teahaddist Micheal Laprarie at some site called Wizbang wrote this gem:
The “reach for my revolver” is supposed to be crossed out – not sure how to reporduce that here.
What is obvious is the idiom of violence, elimination, firearms that the fascists revel in. And they’re coming after this corrageous woman sho dared speak the truth – that must scare the fools like Rush shitless.
So…sign the Credo petition supporting her here, and check out the Bowers article at DK here – and throw her some dollars!
# 1: I heard a lady last week that was absolutely convinced that Obama had said somewhere in a speach that he didn’t believe in the Bible and thought there was more truth in the Koran. She claimed to have seen excerpts of that speech on YouTube, but “of course, it was taken down because of the control the Democrats have on the media”. She proclaimed that Obama, and our country by extension, was cursed because he had denied the divinity of Christ and the only way for our country to remove the curse was to get him out of office by any means necessary. I presume she meant voting him out or impeachment, I doubt she meant anything more sinister.
But how do you argue with that???? They are absolutely convinced in their beliefs, and any evidence to the contrary will be dismissed without consideration. I think the best we can do is not try to argue with those like her (who will never be persuaded), but instead focus on those who aren’t so locked into their positions.
@16
Maybe secession would be a good thing. She’d love it in Texas.
@16
It’s the sheer stupidity that gets me. If I received an email that quoted George W. Bush saying,
“the best thing about Skull and Bones is that was the one period in my life I enjoyed the pleasure of love with another man. And in our rituals we routinely flogged the Muslims we could find around campus. As president, it is my intention to drop “newclear” ordinance on all countries with under 80% Christian populace.”
My gut reaction would be, nah. That can’t really be true. Let’s not hit forward til it checks out.
Is this the same shooting that the righties were talking about last weekend?
It appears the incompetent Obama Administration has lost something in Libya..make that lost 20,000 f&%@ing missles!
How much more incompetence will Obama need to show the nations Independent Voters?? Or even the moderate Democrats?
@20
You mean like all the surface to air missiles that went missing in The ‘Stan under Reagan? And all the crap that went missing in The ‘Stan and Iraq under Bush 2?
The missiles that went missing are Libyan missiles, not US ones. They went missing in large part because we couldn’t put US troops on the ground in Libya to guard them. We couldn’t put troops on the ground to guard them because Republicans were pitching a fit and didn’t want us to have any part of what was going on in Libya.
If the Republicans had had their way we wouldn’t even know that there are missiles floating around on the loose. And you’re complaining about Obama?
@21
Welcome to the topsy-turvy world of the Republicans!
@20
It looks like the 20K number is the total number of missiles that we think Libya might have, not the total missing #.
I guess we can officially put a fork in “compassionate conservatism” as a political philosophy.
1. It’s been well document (by video) that at least one popular GOP candidate for President is in favor of having an uninsured patient die rather than rendering govermental assistance to pay for his care. The cheers and applause at the Republican debate show this isn’t a small minority clique that holds that belief.
2. When a soldier serving in Iraq asks the Republican candidates a question (via video), he is roundly booed – because he is gay.
3. Let’s not forget the Dec. 2010 Republican demand that no extension of unemployment benefits would pass unless the rich got an extension on their tax breaks – a position worthy of ascribing to Scrooge in the holiday season.
There are others, but more important to this discussion is how the Republican candidates all started piling in on Perry because he signed a bill granting in-state tuition to undocumented students who meet all other criteria. Perry’s response was that anyone who wants to deny an education to an innocent student, who’s only crime was to be brought into the U.S. by his/her parents without any say in the manner, “had no heart”.
Now all the right-wingers are piling on Perry for stating the obvious – that they have no heart.
Of course, there never was such a thing as “compassionate conservatism”. It was simply campaign sloganeering by Karl Rove to make George W. Bush seem at least marginally acceptable to independent voters. But at this point the Republicans have discarded any pretense to that ideology.
ButtPutty@9,
Now that was funny! Bill Maher’s comments about Rick Perry at the debate was right on target, too.
Hey DeBoner @20
You ever stop to think that the US didn’t/doesn’t have boots on the ground in Libya? Nah, didn’t think so.
O’ Lordy. Would I have gotten kicked off the plane for thinking Camila Grey kissing another woman was hot? I mean, that’s not very family friendly of me.
Maybe they should have taken a vote. They could have staid on the plane if more people didn’t care about the kiss than were offended by it.
What I really wonder is, is how many more times is South West going to get raked over the coals for crap like this until they change their ways?
HA! The Tea Party’s so done. The world’s moved on.
Michael+++
President Obama declared last Tuesday to the UN the Libyan people are “free from a tyrant” even though ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi remains on the loose.
Obama also defended his Libyan actions last Tuesday, saying the U.S. was “proud to play a decisive role, especially in the first days, and, then, in a supporting capacity.”
A lot of support…losing 20,000 missles.
Plus, many Democrats were also on Obama’s case about Libya being an unauthorized war. Obama should have gone to Congress. Instead he dicked around and now look what happened.
Sorry Michael, Obama is responsible. The buck stops with him.
Hey DeBoner @20
You ever stop to ask yourself why the US didn’t/doesn’t have boots on the ground in Libya? Could it have been the lunatic fringe (AKA the
RepuglicanTea Party) that kept Obama from committing boots on the ground?‘debonair’ is a douchebag.
Don’t feed the trolls.
# 29: As was mentioned previously, those were not U.S. missles. They had previously belonged to the Libyan army, and went “missing” in the course of a revolution.
Now, let’s compare that with Iraq, where the U.S. DID have a very substantial presence on the ground, and still failed to secure unguarded warehouses and huge storage depots of all manner of weapons, including not only shoulder-fired anti-aircraft weapons, but also anti-tank weapons, land mines, artillary shells, small arms of every variety and virtually unlimited ammunition, etc.
And while we are at it, let’s point out that under Ronald Reagan, stinger missles were given to Muhadeen rebels fighting the Soviets, only to have them cause considerable concern to the U.S. when U.S. forces entered Afganistan to kick out the Taliban.
Oh, and dare we broach the whole subject of the original arms-for-hostages dealings by the Reagan administration, where they gave arms and spare parts to Iran in violation of U.S. law (and ensuring that more U.S. citizens would be taken hostage)? Or the switch were the Reagan administration decided that it preferred a stalemate in the Iran/Iraq war, and provided real-time intelligence on Iranian military movements to the Iraqis, along with other weapons?
ZzzzzzZZZzzzzzZZzz.. Who sold them to the Libyans in the first place???
It looks like the Russians did..
We all know who sold these missiles:
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/.....038;page=2
All it takes is money it would seem.
He’s the “friendo” from Montana.
@29
Stop gasping for breath, the lack of oxygen is effecting your brain. It’s pretty hard for the US to lose 20K missiles it never had.
Yes, a handful of Democrats were against the war. But, you’re a rightie making a rightwing claim. So lets focus on the righties. Had the right wing gotten their way not only would the missiles have gone missing, we wouldn’t even know about it.
Yes, Momar’s still on the loose, but it’s clear that the Libyan people are shut of him.
I don’t see any reason we should defend Obama’s actions, the US played a role in getting a really horrid tyrant out of power. A really horrid tyrant that plenty of American Righties were starting to cozy up too. ;-)
There’s two choices here. The US could have followed the lead of the right who had been cozying up to Momar and done nothing or they could go the Obama route. I’m glad we went the Obama route. See you can have it the one way or you can have it the other way, but you can’t have it both ways. Some times you’ve got to choose a side.
Let’s not try to make this any more complicated than it already is.
Some wingnut is claiming that 20,000 missles which were supplied to the Libyans by the Soviets and then lost by the Libyan Army in the course of a revolution are Obama’s fault.
That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about our local wingnuts. They blame Obama for everything without regard for the facts.
“Res Ipsa Loquitor”. The thing speaks for itself.
@36 nutjobs they are.
@37
figured you would like nutjobs….
Well you ran out of excuses to blame GW Bush 1/20/2009. Turn about is “fair play”.
Kind of like you turds stopped blaming Bill Clinton for everything on 1/20/2001.
Hey ButtPutty, you remember the bikini graph? Shows in one simple graph how you dirt bags trashed the economy.
And here is a more recent bikini graph. Jobs are coming back, no thanks to the Rethugs best efforts in the House to tank the economy.
And that reminds me. The Rethugs said give them the House and they’ll work on jobs. What have they done to create jobs? Nada, though to give them some credit, they have tried to kill some aviation jobs.
@2
Yes, I strongly recommend that book.
