The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Well… almost every Tuesday. We didn’t meet last week because we were all patriotically drinking at various 4th of July parties. (And because the Ale House was closed.)
Anyway, I’m looking forward to a cold pint of Manny’s and a lively edition of Podcasting Liberally, also back after a one-week hiatus.
Oh… and if you happen to be a liberal drinker on the other side of the mountains, the Tri-Cities chapter of DL also meets Tuesday nights, 7 PM, Atomic Ale, 1015 Lee Blvd., in Richland. Go ask Jimmy for more details.
Special Guest…
Beverly from Burien
We should allow the government to put all those undesirables, criminals, potential criminals, and of course parents of potential criminals, into Burlington Northern boxcars and not ask questions about where they go.

BIG YUK!
I’ll probably be able to show up. As good a spot to watch the All-Star Game as any.
There’s grist for discussion all over the Ale House floor this week — including Connelly’s defense of Lieberman, the Lamagna-Wilson gambit in the Senate race, and the resurrection of Graham Hill Elementary … and what else?
I won’t make this session, but then I never have much to say anyhow.
I do have to say this —
Former President Bill Clinton will appear with Rep. Jim McDermott, Monday 7/31, 7pm, Benaroya Hall.

One liar helping another with his legal bills.. how perfectly chummy… and DULL.
Spend your money in Bellevueinstead and have something to take home to show for your money!
Tokyo – North Korea could be preparing for new launches of mid-range missiles after last week’s tests, with activity detected at its bases, a report said today citing Japanese government sources. US and Japanese satellite photos show that mid-range Rodong missiles had been set up on launch pads at a base in southeastern North Korea, but were later removed, /break/ fuel tanks could be seen near the launch pads. […………………………………………………………………………………..A closer “SATVIEW” shows Jim McDermott, Roger Rabbit, and Ted Kennedy pushing the Noprth korean missiles into launch position!]
BOSTON –At least 12 tons of concrete fell from the ceiling of one of Boston’s Big Dig tunnels, crushing a woman in a car and again raising concerns about the integrity of the massive highway project that is the central artery through the city.
A steel tieback that held a 40-foot ceiling section over Interstate 90 eastbound gave way late Monday night in the tunnel, a main access way to Boston’s Logan International Airport. The tunnel was closed indefinitely as crews worked to remove about 30 ceiling slabs in a 200-foot section where the collapse occurred, DEMOCRAT Authority Chairman Matthew Amorello said Tuesday. […………………………………………………………………………………..This is a lie!!!! This project [DEMOCRAT Tip O’Neil Tunnel] was pushed by Democrats, designed by Democrats, and built by Democrat unions!! DEMOCRATS Kerry and Kennedy PERSONALLY
built this tunnel!! Any and all problems are Republican hate attacks!!!!!!!]

Yeah, Craig, I get it — Alcoa’s profits are up ONLY 62% so investors are throwing a tantrum and dumping the stock. If shareholders had to settle for the 1.5% to 2.5% the workers get, there would be real carnage.
Hey JCH — how much of the pie should go to capital, and how much to labor? Workers get only crumbs off the plate, and the tax code screws them, too. So why would anyone in their right mind want to work? Republicans think America’s “work ethic” is being undermined by declining morality. Wrong. It’s being undermined by:
1) low pay
2) lack of employer respect for worker loyalty
3) unfavorable tax treatment of wages

I did not post #4.
I can’t make it tonight–I have a mandatory work-related social function to attend. However, my wife has recovered well from her surgery, and hopefully one or both of us will be able to show up next week.
Roger, you and Ann have a wonderful time. No, I don’t want to see the pictures.
Roger at 13 – Are you coming around to the idea of repealing income taxes? Sounds good to me!
Let’s blow off income taxes in favor of a national sales tax. Just think: no more April 15th headaches, no record keeping, no tax preparation industry. I like it!
big dig; will ya’ll be discussion how the $14bb pissed away in boston is like the xx billion that ya’ll wanna piss away in seattle
Roger Rabbit did not attend DL tonight, so all you NSA spooks on the stakeout can go home now.

I didn’t post that comment, an imposter did. Goldy deleted it at my request.

“Let’s blow off income taxes in favor of a national sales tax.”
Over my dead body.
A national sales tax is exactly what the poor and the average American family will need to put them all on the damn streets. What percentage of income would you like?
10%? 15%?
Add that to Washington State’s 8+%, throw in some Medicare and Social Security and you will see total devastation all over America on anyone not making 150 grand a year.
Taxing consumption benefits the rich only, why do think Seattle has so many millionaires? Ya think they like the air? They love this damn state because they don’t pay any State Income Tax here.

So why are YOU here?
I like the trees, the climate and the rain. My home is Las Vegas and I thought it would be too expensive to retire there. The reality is my Dad in Vegas spends much less of his monthly income on things like gas, electricity, water, property taxes, etc than I do here in Lacey. Lacey is the city of trees, not that you would know it now. They are being clear cut by the hundreds for development.
