It’s been an eventful week for The Stranger’s Cienna Madrid. First I took a few rhetorical potshots at her, and today she gets body-slammed by the Seattle P-I’s venerable Joel Connelly: “Cantwell’s vilification by left is bizarre.” And in case you missed it, listen to Cienna taking on both me and Joel in the latest installment of Podcasting Liberally.

    First. Joel Connelly said no such thing. Second, Cantwell has been averaging fourteen poitns ahead of McGavick for three months, and McGavick’s numbers are holding steady at the GOP-loser level of 36% all that time. He is gaining NO traction with independents, or at least that seems a likely assumption given that the GOIP base in this state more or less guarantees a GOP candidate 30%. I don’t pay Rasmussen the $350 a year he wants to provide me with age, gender, race, and party affiliation poll breakdowns.

    Oh, and Cantwell has a 60% favorable rating to Mcgavick’s 37%. Hers is improved in this poll, his is worse. Not good signs for McGavick.

    Joe Lieberman is the Republicans’ favorite Democrat now that Zell “piled higher and deeper” Miller is gone. He supported the war, yes. Further, he has gone on record recently warning Democrats not to speak out against the president. Democrats are “attacking” him for pulling stupid stunts like that. Democrats are givign money to his CT primary opponennt, Ned Lamont, because now Joe-mentum is being opposed by a REAL Democrat.

    So let’s look at the France = surrender monkey line oh so popular the past few years.

    Since France has existed they have managed to be one of the dominant powers on the continent of Europe for roughly 1200 years with some ups and downs along the way.

    They have twice held continental empires that could only be compared to the conquests of the Roman Empire and the German in World War II – but the latter only lasted for 6 years so they hardly count for much in the big picture.

    But maybe that is all too much history for our poorly-educated conservatives around here to grasp. So we’ll just focus on the last 200 years or so since the USA was formed.

    Gee, who was it that bailed our sorry asses out during the Revolutionary War? Yep, the French. Without their supplying troops and training ours, not to mention the extensive material, financial, and political support we would likely still have to sing “God Save the Queen”.

    Perhaps you were out on a drinking binge they week they talked about how Napoleon took on the rest of Europe combined and beat the lot of them.

    Now they did lose the Prussian-Franco War in 1876, but they stopped the Germans cold in 1914 and fought them for four bloody years. Then we show up at the end and they had to help train and equip our boys when they went over there in late 1917.

    I know what you are thinking Cynical – if you managed to scrape up the intelligence to make it this far – those damn French got overrun in 1939 dammit. And you are right. But are you really stupid enough to think that tells the whole story?

    I know it is hard to keep up with all those ideas that don’t somehow relate to the tales Fox News tells you. But try, and maybe someday you will learn a thing or two. (I know you don’t really care, but it is fun to make Fox News Republicans look as stupid as they are sometimes.)

    War of the Spanish Succession: Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved ever since.

    American Revolution: In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as “de Gaulle Syndrome”, and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: “France only wins when America does most of the fighting”.

    French Revolution: Won, primarily due to the fact that the opponent was also French.

    The Napoleonic Wars: Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

    The Franco-Prussian War: Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France’s ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

    WWI: Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it’s like not only to sleep with a winner, but one who doesn’t call her “Fraulein.” Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

    WWII: Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

    War in Indochina: Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with Dien Bien Flu.

    Algerian Rebellion: Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a Western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare -“We can always beat the French.” This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Eskimos.

    War on Terrorism: France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe.

    Cantwell is running a BAD CAMPAIGN. Even with a 14-point lead, she is CROSSING HERSELF UP, sending an INCONSISTENT MESSAGE and HURTING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY MESSAGE for other candidates.

    It’s not a question of the Left sniping at a candidate for little things. It’s a question of a candidate who is undermining the core values of the party. We don’t want a Lieberman in this state – a candidate who says he’s a Democrat but hurts the party whenever he feels like it if he thinks it benefits him.

    McGavick won’t even appear with Bush and yet Cantwell will not campaign against Bush.

    A few highlights from the French counter-terrorism laws.

    0) NO separation of powers made or implied. The police, the office of the investigating magistrate, the prosecutors, and the intelligence services all share information completely.

    1) No impartial judges, just invesigating magistrates with the powers of prosecutor and judge.

    2) Police can hold suspected terrorists for up to 6 days with no charges, no contact with family, and no contact with legal counsel.

    3) Spying on domestic intelligence targets is permitted. There’s a whole agency devoted to it called the Renseignements Generaux.

    4) The mosques controlled by radicals are watched. In fact, a copy of the Imam’s Friday sermon is presented, translated into French, on the desk of the Interior Minister every Monday.

    5) The Finance Minister has signature authority to freeze assets without troublesome issues like due process of law or a day in court.

    6) Travel to “suspected” countries can be controlled by the State.

    7) All ISPs and cyber cafes are required to keep a log of all web connections for one year.

    So go ahead guys, kick the French. Their present reality is beyond your wildest wet dreams.

Did some checking. france generates 75% of the elec power with nuke compared to about 20% here. thing I read says it costs 3 EU cents per kwh which is 3.6 cents Murkan. I think us here in FUWA pay about 7 cents per kwh. In some other parts of the country it’s about 15 cents per kwh. So their elec cost is about half or quarter of ours. Can’t argue with that.

    I’m sure you seattle moonbats support nuke power. Right? If not, why not?

    2. The US Constitution is pretty unambiguous about what constitutes treason:
