Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid speaking at Netroots Nation

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid speaking at Netroots Nation

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is speaking at the moment at Netroots Nation, and got a surprisingly warm welcome. The crowd’s favorite line thus far:

“I know at sometimes I get on your nerves. And I can tell you, that you get on mine.”

And thats the way Democracy is supposed to work.

Coming up, Seattle’s own Joan McCarter (Daily Kos’s McJoan) will be moderating questions from the audience.

oh, and when barney frank insulted his constituents, is that also how a democracy works?

Barney Frank didn’t insult his constituents, Man of Truth, he insulted you. He said that you were a moron and that if you ever had a clue you wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Don’t get mad at me, get mad at Barney Frank, ’cause that is what he said.

Wow, so it turns out that Democrats and Republicans in DC can work together after all. Turns out all you have to do is suggest a few rule changes at the USDA that would give smaller farmers more power and Big AG less power and both Republicans and Democrats with both pounce on it and call it wrong headed.

The regulations would give contract poultry growers new protections in their dealings with large chicken processors. The USDA said the proposed regulations would also level the playing field in the hog and cattle markets. In particular, the regulations would give livestock raisers new rights to sue if they have been harmed by producers.

The regulations were issued under the Packers and Stockyards Act of 1921 by the Grain, Inspection, Packers and Stockyard Administration (GIPSA). GIPSA administrator J. Dudley Butler was one of the USDA officials on the receiving end of the House subcommittee’s wrath.

The regulations are part of a more widespread effort by the Obama administration to investigate whether portions of the agriculture business violate antitrust laws. The USDA and the Department of Agriculture are holding a series of hearings across the country on competition (or lack thereof) in various ag sectors, including poultry, hogs, cattle, dairy, retailing and seeds.

I really hope that the Obama admin. and the USDA find a way to implement the changes without congress.

    More from the article above.

The vivid opposition to the new rules — some described it as an “ambush” — has set livestock and farm groups in motion. Late Thursday, more than 65 rural, ranch, farm and livestock producer groups — from the Alabama Contract Poultry Growers to R-CALF USA to Farm Aid — had signed a letter in support of the regulations.

See small farmers and small town folks support this.

The U.S. Congress: sponsored by corporate agriculture!

Iowa Dam Fails Causing ‘Catastrophic’ Release of Water
    July 24, 2010:
A 300-foot-long breach in Lake Delhi Dam Saturday sent water spilling downstream and hundreds of people fleeing for safety in eastern Iowa.

David Fink, Lake Delhi dam operation manager, called the breach “a catastrophic release of water.”

With a crumbling infrastructure, no money to fix it, and weather events like one that caused this on the increase, we can look forward to more excitement like this in the future.

ObaMao and Harry will pay politically for their decision to allow the Taliban to regroup while ObaMao “pondered” what to do next in Afghanistan. American blood is being shed at a record rate do to the incompentence of the Kommander in Chief.

    Sadly, it is reported–

The five American troops died in roadside bombings in the south — four in a single blast. A fifth service member was killed in a separate attack in the south where international forces are stepping up the fight against the insurgents.

The latest deaths brought to 75 the number of international troops killed in Afghanistan this month, including 56 Americans. Many of the deaths have occurred in the south where Afghan and NATO forces are ramping up operations against the Taliban in their southern strongholds, hoping to enable the Afghan government to expand its control in the volatile region.

    Where is MSNBC on this?
They used to report daily the death toll in Iraq.
I guess American lives are not important now that their annoited one is Prez.

This is said…and was preventable had ObaMao not stopped for his 3 month pause.

Harry Reid is going down come November, so better plan your weeping pity-party at Goldy’s house right about now.

Little Reid isn’t doing well at all running for Nev. Governor either. Too bad, so sad.

    Good fucking riddance.

If Harry Reid had a credible opponent he’d be gone in November, (and good riddance!) since his opponent is a Tea Bagger who spouts nonsense he’ll still be around after the election.

They stopped counting before George Bush was into his second term. Remember when reporters asked about the significance of 2500 dead soldiers? The reply by press secretary Tony Snow, “It’s a number”. No asswipe, it’s 2500 dead soldiers!

You ask where was MSNBC? Question is, where the FUCK were you?

Harry Reid (and Nancy Pelosi) got HUGE legislation though the Congress for Obama against all odds in a poisonous partisan atmosphere. It wasn’t exactly the legislation everyone wanted, and Obama isn’t getting the credit he deserves for it (yet) but we can thank Reid and Pelosio for some brilliant and dogged legislatin’. Reid will be back (as leader) in January, mainly because, and again brilliantly, he did help (in a big way) choose his bagger opponent.

Today, ObaMao has nearly hit his all-time low!

    Sunday, July 25, 2010

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 25% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-five percent (45%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -20.

    +32 post-inauguration.
    dropped 52 points thru today.

Yeah, America really hates the guy.
    He did it to himself.

Then why is Reid’s race, at one point twenty points and change in the hole, now a statistical dead heat? Five words:

    Sharron ‘Forty-One To’ Angle.

Fact is, while Reid isn’t popular, the alternative is far worse. And while there’s still three months and change before the election, it looks like Reid will survive. And I’ll also wager that Angle will probably sue for a recount or re-vote. Why? She has a precedent for it, having done so after losing the 2006 primary for the seat currently held by R Dean Heller.
