Reverend Falwell, fond farewell:
Your soul has fled its mortal shell
And flown across the great divide
To savor at your Savior’s side.
Or so you think… um… so you thought,
Well, so, at least, your Bible taught,
While unbelievers who deny
Eternal afterlife, like I,
Think when you’re dead, well, you just die.
But if, when I give up the fight,
I’m strangely drawn into the light?
And there your reverent form I see?
Don’t laugh sir, that the joke’s on me,
For since I’ve never claimed nor known
Your Savior Jesus as my own,
If you should meet this faithless Jew
In Heaven or in Hell’s review,
Well, either way… the joke’s on you.
Roger Rabbit spews:

What CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES Did to the Airline Industry
“As Pay Falls, Airlines Struggle to Fill Jobs
“By MELANIE TROTTMAN and SUSAN CAREY, The Wall Street Journal
“Wrestling suitcases on and off planes got so grueling late last year for Southwest Airlines Co.’s 350 ramp workers in Chicago that by Christmas season one-fourth of them were reporting on-the-job injuries. Starting pay for the position: $8.75 an hour.
“Airlines used to offer prestigious jobs with good wages and coveted … benefits. Now, … airline jobs are more akin to those at a fast-food restaurant. The pay is low, the work is tough and, … airlines are having trouble hanging onto workers and finding new ones.
“‘What once was a glamorous job … doesn’t look so good any more,’ says Andy Roberts, executive vice president of operations for Northwest Airlines Corp. Mr. Roberts says Northwest and its peers used to have a list of applicants ‘as long as your arm.’ Now, ‘we have to go seek them out, even pilots.’
“That’s not good news for passengers, as the combination of fewer and less experienced workers is causing more service problems. Planes sit on tarmacs because airlines are short on gate workers. Service on planes is slower because many airlines are flying with fewer flight attendants. When bad weather hits, tight staffing may mean more delays or canceled flights. …
The U.S. airline industry is profitable today in part because … carriers shed … 170,000 workers, or 38% of the total, between August 2001 and October 2006, according to the Air Transport Association. … Pay has fallen, sometimes substantially.
“Capt. Gene Malone, a 56-year-old pilot for … American Airlines, says his annual pay dropped … after the airline won concessions to stay out of bankruptcy. … He plans to retire early in about 18 months. ‘An airline career is not worth it anymore,’ says Capt. Malone. ‘It’s a very different profession than it was 23 years ago when I started.’
“When … United Airlines decided … to bring back pilots who were furloughed during the downturn, most didn’t want to come back, says Capt. Steve Derebey, a spokesman for the pilots union. ‘It takes 10 letters to get one back,’ he says. UAL … acknowledges having a hard time recruiting … workers in … locations where unemployment is low and the cost of living is high. …
“Pamela Lopez-Lewis, a Northwest flight attendant for 28 years, says she started working a second job as a bartender 18 months ago to make up for … a $15,000 drop in pay imposed by the airline …. ‘Everybody is reaching their breaking point,’ she says of her colleagues. ‘Morale is so low. You’ve been insulted by the pay you’re getting. You’re not feeling happy. I absolutely think it affects service. Apathy prevails.’ Mr. Roberts, the Northwest executive vice president, says: ‘Morale is certainly severely tested. It’s hard to keep people enthused.’ …
“Last year, 22.6% of flights were late, the highest percentage since 2000, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. … In March of this year, passenger complaints about U.S. airlines nearly doubled from the same month a year earlier …. That same month, the rate of mishandled baggage rose nearly 33% from a year earlier at the largest 20 carriers, says the department. …
“Ground operations are among the most acutely affected by the airlines’ cutbacks. Troy Bacon, a ramp agent in Atlanta for Delta Air Lines Inc., says he has seen a shortage of drivers to transport luggage at the international terminal during weekends, which contributes to baggage delays. … Mr. Gordon of the machinists union said Northwest is having difficulty hiring and retaining qualified employees in expensive cities such as Boston and New York. In Minneapolis, where the airline has a hub, ‘you can hire on the ramp for $9 an hour’ and work bad shifts out in the cold weather, or ‘you can work inside a Target for $11,’ he said. Northwest confirms that it is having hiring difficulties in some places. …
“Yesterday, the University of Michigan released its American Customer Satisfaction Index. … Airlines fared worse, by nine points, than the federal government and even lagged by two points the Internal Revenue Service.”

Two More GOP Senators Say Gonzales Should Leave
“WASHINGTON (May 17) – Attorney General Alberto Gonzales came under renewed pressure Wednesday, as two more Republican senators came out against him and Democrats challenged his truthfulness about President Bush’s no-warrant eavesdropping program.
“The developments revived a debate over Gonzales’ fitness to head the Justice Department a day after a former deputy attorney general recounted a dramatic hospital bedside confrontation between Gonzales and his predecessor, John Ashcroft. … Democrats said his testimony appeared to contradict Gonzales’ account in February 2006, when he told two congressional panels that there had ‘not been any serious disagreement about the program.’ …
“Citing Comey’s testimony, Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel … became the fourth Republican senator to call for Gonzales’ resignation. … Republicans who have urged his ouster include Sens. John Sununu of New Hampshire, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and John McCain of Arizona, and House GOP Conference Chairman Adam Putnam, R-Fla.
“Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., … said Wednesday that Gonzales should consider stepping down. Gonzales has been the target of similar barbs by Republican Sens. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Gordon Smith of Oregon. …
“Meanwhile, congressional committees raised the pressure on Gonzales. The House Judiciary Committee announced that Monica Goodling, Gonzales’ White House liason who played a major role in the prosecutor firings, would testify May 23 under a grant of immunity.
“Across the Capitol Wednesday Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy threatened to issue more subpoenas if the White House does not cooperate with his probe of whether … White House aides, including … Karl Rove, sought to improperly influence federal investigations and prosecutions.
“In response to an earlier subpoena from Leahy, the Justice Department on Wednesday released nine pages of e-mails that included Rove among the recipients. … Rove was using an e-mail address with the Internet domain name ‘georgewbush.com’ to receive messages about the fired prosecutors, the documents show. …
“But it was Gonzales’ role in the scene at Ashcroft’s bedside that prompted new suggestions that he step down.”
Quoted under Fair Use; for complete story and/or copyright info see http://tinyurl.com/2ldveb
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Investigative journalist Greg Palast set up a web site called “georgewbush.org” and received 500 e-mails intended for “georgewbush.com” — some of which had incriminating “caging lists” attached. The caging lists were part of a far-flung GOP operation to bar black voters from voting, which is a felony under the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Consequently, the e-mails that stupid GOP operatives sent to Palast’s in-box constitute criminal evidence.
To date, the furor over Gonzales has focused on his false testimony to Congress about Bush’s unconstitutional wiretapping program and the U.S. Attorney firings. Neither the media nor Congress has yet focused on Gonzales’ role in Rove’s illegal black voter suppression operation, but that will come when Goodling testifies.
I predict Goodling will tell the truth about what she knows in order to save her own ass. She’s a young, impressionable, thirty-something who was somewhat awestruck by being put in a high position at Justice and being a big-time power broker — but now she’s scared as hell of not only losing her license to practice law, and having her livelihood and reputation destroyed, but also of going to prison. For there’s no doubt she participated in the commission of crimes … and she knows perfectly well she did. That’s why she got a high-powered defense attorney, took the Fifth Amendment, and bargained for immunity.
Congress gave her immunity, and now the scared kid is going to spill what she knows. And she knows a lot. Probably enough to put Karl Rove in a defendant’s dock. Maybe enough to impeach Bush.
For there’s no doubt about what Bush, Rove, Gonzo, Goodling, and their minions were up to: They intended to steal our government by hijacking elections and imposing what amounts to a rightwing dictatorship on America.
But Goodling, as John Dean did 35 years ago, has the power to bring this evil regime down. And I’m betting she will do it, just as John Dean did. After the dust settles, she will be very, very remorseful for her role in this sordid affair. And her future is assured, for she will get a very, very big book contract.
She’ll never have to perform the menial labor of practicing law again. Eat your heart out, Richard Pope. You sold your own soul to the Republicans for a pittance. Too bad you didn’t do a better job of sucking up so you could become a trusted lackey like Goodling and trade your integrity for a book deal that’s take care of you for life. All you traded your integrity for was free posting privileges on Horseass.org.
Hell, I’ve got that, and I didn’t even have to trade my soul for it.
Roger Rabbit spews:
What will it take to impeach Bush? Not, as many of my liberal friends believe, a continuing litany of outrages. There are already plenty of outrages, but they haven’t been enough.
No, what it will take is at least 16 Republican Senators wanting a sitting president of their own party gone. Without them, no House impeachment resolution means anything. If you don’t have 67 Senate votes — forget it. It would be worse than a fruitless exercise; the media and much of the public would interpret it as a vindication of Bush, much as the ill-conceived Clinton impeachment turned out to be.
Is it possible to get 16 Republican Senators to oust Bush?
Yes, I think so. For two primary reasons. First, some would sacrifice one of their own to save themselves and their party. Second, even though we disagree with them on many things, some of the GOP senators care enough about the constitution, law, and principle to put doing the right thing above party loyalty if they decide Bush’s offenses are egregious enough.
They are, but they have to be proved. At this point, the most serious charges against Bush are viewed by both the media and Republican members of Congress as partisan attacks. They need to be backed up, not only by solid evidence, but also by the clout of credible institutions. We can talk ourselves blue in the face on blogs, but what it will take to bring 16 GOP Senators to the conclusion that a president of their party has violated his oath of office and the Constitution and the laws of the land to such an extent as to compel his removal will be congressional hearings, major media editorials, and a public outcry for his ouster. That could come — if the evidence is fed into congressional hearings, and the bricks of the Bush-Rove House of Lies fall, one by one.
It will be a gradual process, like a middle-aged man who thought he was healthy and fit learning from his doctor that he has cancer. Acceptance doesn’t come immediately; it takes a little while. Agreement to the treatment is something he has to think about. But when he realizes his very life is on the line, he’ll come around, and accept the reality of his situation, albeit reluctantly and unhappily.
So it will be with the GOP senators. They will hesitate; they will be truculent; but when the reality of what has happened to their party and our country sinks in, they’ll swallow the bitter pill. I believe the votes eventually will be there, but the process must run its course, and everything has its own season.

PelletHead regarding flight attendants being overworked: Their UNION makes sure they only fly a certain number of hours. On a delayed flight we had to wait for another full crew because the crew aged out for the day!
Regarding Pay: Let me ask all you Moonbat!s a question, are you willing to pay 50% or more for attendants, pilots, and ground workers to get better pay?
Think about it!

RE: CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES
I’M READING RICK PERLSTEIN’S BOOK ABOUT BARRY GOLDWATER. IT’S AN EXCELLENT HISTORY OF THE ORIGINS OF THE POST-WWII CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT.
IT’S FUNNY THAT GOLDWATER WAS THE HEIR TO A FAMILY FORTUNE. WHEN GROWING UP IF HE WANTED SOMETHING HE COULD WALK INTO ANY STORE IN PHOENIX AND CHARGE IT TO HIS FATHER. HE DROPPED OUT OF COLLEGE BECAUSE HE DIDN’T LIKE IT. HIS GRANDFATHER AND FATHER BUILT THE FAMILY BUSINESS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FEDERAL CONTRACTS AND THE BOOM IN GOVERNMENT SPENDING DURING THE NEW DEAL. IF IT WASN’T FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THERE WOULD BE NO GOLDWATER FAMILY FORTUNE.
THIS IS IN TOTAL CONTRADICTION TO THE RUGGED INDIVIDUALIST MYTHS GOLDWATER SPUN ABOUT HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY.
GOLDWATER MARRIED AN HEIRESS TO THE WARNER-BORG FORTUNE IN INDIANA. GOLDWATER WAS SO OBSESSED WITH KEEPING A UNION OUT OF THE FAMILY BUSINESS, HE USED THE INTEREST FROM HIS WIFE’S TRUST FUND TO SUBSIDIZE A SUPERIOR BENEFITS PACKAGE FOR THE BUSINESS’ WORKERS.
SO WHENEVER THE WORD “FREEDOM” FELL FROM HIS MOUTH, IT’S MOSTLY “FREEDOM” FROM DEALING WITH A UNION HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE MADE HIS MARK IN THE SENATE AND WITH OTHER LIKE-MINDED IDEOLOGUES BY PUSHING A STAUNCH ANTI-UNION AGENDA.
THE EARLY FUNDERS OF POST-WWII CONSERVATISM WERE MOSTLY FAMILY-OWNED MANUFACTURING BUSINESSES – THE KOHLERS OF WISCONSIN, ROBERT WELSH IN MASSACHUSSETTS, ROBERT MILIKEN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, ETC..
IT WAS ALL ABOUT CHEAP LABOR AND TAXES TO THESE PEOPLE. SO WHAT’S THE RESULT OF THIS MOVEMENT? CORPORATIONS HAVE STEADILY CONTRIBUTED LESS AND LESS A PERCENTAGE OF FEDERAL TAX RECEIPTS. HERE’S THE BIG PICTURE. INDIVIDUALS PAY THE LION’S SHARE OF FEDERAL TAXES. AND OF COURSE, THE LARGEST TAX CUTS SINCE WWII HAVE GONE TO THE WEALTHIEST FROM 90 PERCENT TO WHERE IT IS TODAY.
CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES HAVE MOVED MANUFACTURING JOBS FIRST TO RIGHT-TO-WORK STATES, THEN TO MEXICO AND NOW TO CHINA.
THE CHEAP LABOR MANIA HAS PRODUCED THE ANTI-IMMIGRATION MANIA. WE WOULDN’T HAVE AS MUCH OF A PROBLEM WITH ILLEGAL LABOR IF CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES IN THIS COUNTRY DIDN’T HIRE THEM. PEOPLE ARE ANGRY AT IMMIGRANTS TAKING THEIR JOBS AND THE ROLE OF THE CHEAP LABOR EMPLOYERS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS AN AFTERTHOUGHT.

Puddinghead, I don’t give a rap if the airlines donate money to the party I support; they still suck. I read a new story a couple weeks ago that said a new airline called SkyBus plans to offer $10 seats between Columbus, Ohio, and Bellingham. If their business plan is to get stewardesses to pay THEM for the privilege of serving coffee and candies to the passengers, offering $10 fares won’t change the fact their business plan sucks from the employees’ point of view.
Should ramp workers be paid more than $9 an hour for working night shifts, swing shifts, split shifts, weekend shifts, holiday shifts, snow shifts, summer heat shifts? Let’s put it this way. I wouldn’t take the job, and I’ll bet you wouldn’t either.
Should planes be staffed with 3 cabin attendants for 130 to 150 passengers? Not a problem on the hop from here to Spokane; but if that’s what the service is on the Chicago to L.A. run, I can understand why algore flies on private jets and I can’t understand why the Dingbats! would criticize him for seeking a more comfortable ride than what the airlines offer.
You get what you pay for.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@76 The prolonged and bitter Kohler strike is still legendary in Wisconsin, which is progressive country; and Robert Welch went on to found the John Birch society, and I had the privilege of meeting him in person — with an anti-Bircher picket sign in my hand — as a young teenage rabbit. In fact, that was my very first demonstration, and my encounter with Welch is what launched my long career of political activism.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@76 “THE CHEAP LABOR MANIA HAS PRODUCED THE ANTI-IMMIGRATION MANIA.”
Ironic, isn’t it, that we’re flooded with immigrants (and Bush won’t stop them) because the CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES want them here so they don’t have to hire American workers and pay them American wages.

all roger all the time says “Why should we tolerate wingnuts? Give one me good reason.”
this is how stupid you really are roger…and why you are such a bore on here.
you should tolerate “wingnuts” because that’s what tolerance is you COMPLETE IDIOT! you have tolerance for everyone, not just the people that you like or who are like you.
typical lefty….doesn’t even know the meaning of tolerance…if you just “tolerate” the people who are like you then it isn’t tolerance. god…you are so stupid it is mind boggling!
i’ll bet you don’t get compassion or empathy anymore than goldy does either………
you two are so alike………..hmmmmmmmm…….

The much bigger problem that immediately affects RR and many retired SS recipients is…….
Many illegals work under stolen or dulplicate SS numbers…..So if the US were to deport all of those folks, there is a big $$$ of SS funding that goes away…
Now congress is already in the s**t house when it comes to funding SS everyyear, add the lost funds from the illegal workers……In a nutshell the $$$ taxe number is overstated due to the illegal work force.
Neither party is addressing this issue.
Puddybud Who Left The Reservation spews:
PelletHead: Did you know if an illegal started claiming benefits under your SS number there is no law to stop them when you go to make your claim? Nancy Pelosi has been blocking immigration reform for a long time.

“Roger Rabbit says: @23 “Sam Adams says: For a bunch of folks who are supposed to be tolerant and non-judgemental I sure am seeing a whole lot of exactly that. Yet you are critical of others who do the same. What’s up with that?”

Besides the most obvious one that you claim to have a “big tent” and carry the banner of tolerance and understanding?
It’s sad, but between BOTH sides’ hidden agendas and in-your-face “advocates” those who seek fair treatment and tolerance get neither.
