Last week’s Birds Eye View Contest went unsolved, but something weird did happen with the picture. When I first copied it last week, at intersection of Amethyst St and Raynol St in Los Angeles, there were no homes ready to slide down the hill. I went back there just now, and…homes have been built! Doesn’t Southern California have enough empty houses already? Sorry to everyone who tried solving that one, although I think wes.in.wa was on it. That was way hard.

That was pretty whacked. Separation of church and state means that people can believe that a political figure is inspired by god, he just can’t govern as god. Or is Michele really dumb enough to believe that people high up in the Obama campaign put the sign there?

I strongly suspect that if a republican put up such a sign at the presidential campaign offices you’d scream “See! See! They want a theocracy!!! Religious nut alert!” We’ve heard it all before. Don’t even bother to refute that. Now that a dem has actually done this, suddenly it’s okay. tsk tsk

But we’re making fun of (1) The McCain campaign who, apparently, though it was a winning strategy to put out an ad portraying Obama as the messiah, (2) self-parodying idiots like Rush Limbaugh who know that telling people such things sells ads, but mostly (3) the idiots who actually believe the talk radio liars and/or buy into the wingnutty campaign propaganda.

Umm…unlikely. Politicians and candidates invoke God frequently—as in almost every speech. In this particular case, such a thing is utterly irrelevant. The sign was placed outside on the window of a campaign office. A campaign is a private entity and there are no restrictions on free speech, expression of religion, or even practice of religion. They can hold fundie prayer meetings, wiccan ceremonies, or exorcisms at the campaign headquarters if they wish.
