– This Chief Diaz fellow? I’m beginning to have some doubts.

For the haters out there. you know who you are:

I was 17 years old when I had my baby, a girl I named Sarah, after my favorite book as a child, “Sarah, Plain and Tall.”

A day later after Sarah was born, I handed her over to her adoptive parents. They were a young couple I handpicked from the adoption agency’s big binder, and now their dream of starting a family was finally coming true.

They revealed that they were renaming her Hanna,

When Hanna turned 6, my husband, daughter, and I flew back to my home state to see my family for Christmas. Hanna’s family lived an hour away from mine, and they invited me to visit them..

I worried until our first moment alone, on the front steps of her home, when she poked me in the stomach and said, “Mommy said God put me in your belly because she couldn’t have me in hers.”

I loved watching her [Hanna] interact with my young daughters, who Hanna immediately and fully accepted as her little sisters.

When Hanna was 13, I got a message from her that hit me like a train going full speed. We had begun chatting almost daily via Facebook messenger — something I always looked forward to — but I never expected to see these two words pop up on my screen.

    “I’m trans.”

Hanna’s adoptive parents offered no support and referred to his brave coming out as “a phase.” They refused to use any other name but the one they bestowed upon him and would not allow him to seek counseling or see a doctor for potential hormone blockers. Instead they looked to religion and prayed this phase would end.

@8 Field Marshal Drumpf doesn’t understand aggressors must be defeated or they’ll resume the battle on their terms. A ceasefire allows Putin to regroup and rearm. His pledges will be worthless unless the West provides guarantees Trump doesn’t want to fulfill now. The only way to ensure future peace is by destroying the enemy’s will to fight. Bending to Putin’s will fails to do that. What’s needed is providing Ukraine with the means to defeat him on the battlefield.

  14. Roger Rabbit spews:

The Sunset Limited reverted to a Los Angeles-New Orleans service after Katrina. Some want restoration all the way to Orlando, but Florida will need to get on board. Sunset Limited is not an option, Amtrak re-did the schedule in the interim to avoid a costly long layover for the train and crew in New Orleans.

This directive, which was quietly issued by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s health care program, is the latest policy to target access to health care for transgender federal workers. A link to the change was first cited on a blog by Ermer & Suter, a Washington, D.C., law firm that represents federal health insurance plans.

A Maine police officer arrested by immigration authorities has agreed to voluntarily leave the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Monday. …

Police Chief Elise Chard has said the department was notified by federal officials that Evans was legally permitted to work in the country, and that the town submitted information via the Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify program prior to Evans’ employment.

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin then accused the town of “reckless reliance” on the department’s E-Verify program.

Department of Justice special attorney Ed Martin confirmed he was overseeing probes of Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and New York Attorney General Letitia James for alleged mortgage fraud, and the “Morning Joe” host was stunned by the official’s conduct during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.

“We’re going to go to the very bottom of the facts, and if somebody did something wrong, we’re not only going to hold them accountable,” Martin said. “We’re also going to look at everything else that they’ve been doing, because when you’re a liar, you lie not just on one thing.

When you’re a cheater, you cheat not just on one thing. When you’re doing corruption, you generally don’t just do it on one thing, so we have – that’s what we’re asked to do as prosecutors, and that’s what we’re doing.”

By-Election in Alberta for a MP. Reason for vacancy, the Conservative leader lost his seat, and Battle River-Crowfoot is a very safe seat. Due to the large number of protest independent candidates being pushed by Electoral Reform Advocates, Elections Canada made it a write-in contest.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/battle-river-crowfoot-byelection-1.7606852

Ironically, one of the good points of many proportional systems, they avoid such special elections, although Ireland and New Zealand use them (latter only if it’s a district seat). Usually a vacancy is filled by next candidate on the list if it’s closed list, next highest number of votes within party if it’s open list.

In the past, one of the parties pushing this protest, the Rhinoceros Party, has proposed annexing the United States in the past, as well as banning lousy Canadian Winters. Largely a satirical party.

BBC witnesses Israeli settlers’ attack on Palestinian farm in West Bank

    From the piece:

The Israeli organisation Peace Now, which monitors the spread of settlements in the West Bank, says the number of outposts – and settler aggression – has multiplied since the Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023, and the Gaza War that followed.

Since the beginning of last year, it says, some 100 outposts have appeared across the West Bank. It also found that hundreds of square kilometres of land had been taken over by settlers in the past few years using the same violent pattern of intimidation – encouraged, it says, by government support and a lack of proper law enforcement by Israel.

Hundreds of square kilometres, the piece alleges. Here’s the problem with that:

The whole of Gaza (aka the Gaza Strip) is about twice the size of Washington, D.C. and three times the population. Bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt and Israel, Gaza is a 25-mile long stretch of coastal land (141 square miles, 365 square kilometers).

I’d believe hundreds of residential lots. But spare me the easily debunked bullshit. Some of these settlers are real assholes, no doubt. But if you need to lie about them, then you’re an asshole, too.

Oh, and a drive from Seattle to protest outside Olympia’s capitol building can’t happen unless you recharge before you hit Tacoma on the way home, if it’s in November. If it’s in early February, you’re charging twice to make the trip down and back.

The City of Boston formally tells Pam Bondi to go fuck herself.

This federal administration’s false and continuous attacks on American cities and millions of our residents are unprecedented. You have eliminated health care and food assistance for our families; unlawfully cancelled grants for our schools and roads; slashed funding for our universities, hospitals, and research institutions; and deployed military personnel to occupy our streets. These attacks all come back to a common aim: the Trump Administration seeks to divide, isolate, and intimidate our cities, and make Americans fearful of one another.

The City of Boston is the safest major city in America. Our progress is the result of decades of community policing and partnership between local law enforcement and community leaders, who share a commitment to making Boston a safe and welcoming home for everyone. It is the result of our strong gun laws. And it is the result of our local policies- including the Boston Trust Act, which prohibits local police from engaging with federal immigration enforcement absent a criminal warrant, and which ensures that all Boston residents are able to report crimes and call 911 for help.

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
