    Mr. Newsom, a Democrat, said in an interview with The New York Times that he had been relentlessly working behind the scenes against the proposal, and that he would fight the measure if it reached the November ballot.

    “This will be defeated — there’s no question in my mind,” Mr. Newsom said.

    Collectively, the amount of Billionaire wealth that has left California in the last month (!) is now in excess of $700B.

    That means the $2T of California wealth they expected to tax is now down to $1.3T and falling quickly. I would not be surprised if 2026 ended with less than $1T of billionaire wealth in California and decades and hundreds of lawsuits.

    A complete and total unforced error. Where was the Governor? Where are our leaders??

    If they don’t kill this ballot initiative and entice those folks to come
    back, the California budget will be massively upside down.

    Only place to get the money is to cut waste, fraud and abuse or increase taxes on the middle class.

    The latter is much simpler than the former.

Canadians(Laidlaw) and Scots(FirstGroup, only bought Laidlaw for the school buses even though they are a major bus operator in the UK), wrecked the company, and the Germans seemed to have at least improved the passenger experience, but the previous bad owners helped relieve them of the terminal obligations. Greyhound was already using transit centers as stations, but in the case of Tacoma and Portland, a street corner. Seattle still has an indoor terminal. Not like the former Interurban Terminal, but better than a street corner.

    Greyhound’s current parent, started light on assets. Although not a ride-hailing service, they were an asset-Lightfoot model, not owning buses at first, making independent coach operators partners, and before they bought Greyhound, they were doing the same here.(MTRWestern is a partner) Unfortunately track access model, and a few other hurdles prevent them from bringing their FLIX Train model here. So far, they are one of the few open access operators to successfully compete with Deutsche Bahn, going from used rolling stock(still hunting for bargains like IC1 Intercity coaches put out of work by ICE 4s, which while having the ICE HSR designation, are really Intercity coaches that are faster than anything we have outside the NEC, the real HSR of DB.is ICE 3), to ordering their own new trains TALGO ICE-Ls(like ICE 4s, only capable of 230km/h operation)

    Probably the best open access operators on the HSR front is Italy. NTV with their Italo has actually made state operator TrenItalia’s HSR Ops better, and both have their eyes set on the German market, both domestically, and an international run connecting Milan and Munich. Running time is expected to be 6 hours, and will get faster in 6 years when the shortcut at Brenner is open. A lesson not learned here. In 74 when California first funded Amtrak service, the San Juoquin terminated at Bakersfield. A full restoration of the Valley Daylight would have got a foot in the door. Although the Munich Freccerosa will be running on existing track at first, the running time is 6 and a half hours. No current direct comparison, but did a check, fastest run with a transfer at Verona is 75 minutes slower, 10 hours is more common. The Brenner Base Tunnel will shave another hour. I doubt any state in the US could build such a tunnel, although one CA Hurdle, CEQA has been taken care of.

    Just think how unnerved Graham would have been had this happened in his state instead of the one immediately south of it.

    Dredging up 5+ year-old Georgia elections materials now that we know much more about just how fraudulent Georgia’s handling of that election was probably is not your best argument.
