  2. While I do admit state ownership/private operations on the Palouse River and Coulee City has worked out well, but with the condition the network was in at buy-out, it could only go up. The Coulee City branch had hardly a mile that wasn’t under some sort of speed restriction, and a lot of it was FRA-exempt, the worst classification (10pm h would be speeding). Would I like to see it on the mainline as suggested? No, it would be never-ending improvements like I-5. Even the mainlines need a lot of work.

    Not justifying the use of force, but there are numerous instances of people throwing rocks at officers and trying to burn down that ICE building. These people have also been camping down there so I’m guessing this guy was probably known by the police forces protecting the building and did something that warranted his arrest.

    If you were truly interested in demonstrating unjustified use of force, ACAB, you’d post the video of whatever was transpiring in the few minutes leading up to the clip you linked to, so we can all have a look and can decide for ourselves whether the dude had it coming.

So we should certainly look at cities like Tacoma (1,610), Toledo (1048), Springfield MO (1,339), Salt Lake City (730), and dozens of others with violent crime rates higher than the national average. But what should really concern us are cities and locations with violent crime rates that are on the rise. Cities like Little Rock AR and Virginia Beach VA are the cities where we might be able to say that “crime is out of control” in the sense that whatever efforts are being taken to control (reduce) violent crime in those communities, they have not worked so far.

America’s voters can elect any president they want to, as long as the person is a natural born citizen, age 35 or over, and hasn’t already been elected twice. Those are the only criteria, and if they’re met, they can elect a lowlife scumbag, even a convicted criminal.

    Why any of us would want to do that escapes me. The only thing I can think of is that a country full of people who buy lottery tickets, drop money in casinos, and annually get taken for billions by scammers was sooner or later going to elect a con man to its highest office.

    Neighbors, we need to talk. Just because somebody can be president doesn’t mean they should be president. Presidents can start wars, tank the economy, and screw things up. We can’t afford to be complacent about this. Electing a cartoon president who talks and behaves like a teenager can make your life worse in countless ways.

    Even though the Constitution doesn’t require presidents to be smart, experienced, or competent, we should expect those qualities of our presidents. We also should choose someone of decent character who respects checks and balances, will assemble a capable cabinet, and appoint judges committed to the rule of law.

    C’mon people, we’ve got to do better. Pull yourself away from your scratch tickets long enough to think about what’s in your own best interests.

    But what makes you think by the time you read Barrons online, other people haven’t, too? Is there even such a thing as getting ahead of the market by reading anything online? That’s not how it works. You get ahead of the market by figuring things out before other people do. No tip from a publication, whether online or in print, is timely for that. Even novice investors quickly realize that. You’ve got to do homework, not rely on public information, to spot opportunities.

    So why would you think I use Barrons to pick stocks, or make buy-sell decisions? I use Barrons for macro information, for which timing isn’t critical. Such as how much the dollar has fallen since January (“almost 10 percent,” according to Barrons).

    Of course you know every issue of Barrons touts certain stocks. Do you act on their writeups? If so, I’m interested to know what the track record is, because I don’t find actionable stock plays from reading Barrons, I do that on my own, using my rabbit brain.

    This shit is Investing 101. I’m surprised you’re still a learner at that stage of investing know-how.
