Looking for something to chat about? Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) will introduce a resolution today to officially censure President Bush for breaking the law (specifically, FISA) by conducting illegal, domestic wiretaps… and he writes about it in a diary on Daily Kos.

Is a chief executive who admits he breaks the law and says he’s above the law one of those “signs” the wacky moonbats use to determine if we are slouching toward Bethlehem?

The new Patriot Act re-authorization contains a provision that allows the administration to form a uniformed Gestapo type government police force.

I like Feingold. I think he got some bad advice taking the lead on this at this point in time. Frankly, I think the pro-Hillary crowd duped him into doing this.
We’ll see how this plays out….but I suspect Feingold has hurt himself with the moderate crowd. I’m sure his advisor’s looked at the polls and figured this was a no-brainer but sometimes you have to look beyond the obvious.
I still like the guy…but I worry about who he is listening to.

And frankly, a “censure” is a complete waste of time. It SOUNDS bad, but what is it??? Who really cares?
I say the Dems should move ahead with impeachment or STFU!
Either they have enough evidence to impeach…or they do not.
    Put up or shut up!
The problem is very few Dems would vote for actual impeachment. And they would not want to have these hearings on their resume as they struggle to regain a majority. It’s better for the Dems to just “talk about it”….although it does have a half-life.

Mr. Cyn-Ir “I say the Dems should move ahead with impeachment or STFU!”

Uh, you moron, The Republickfuckers have control of the House (where Impeachment starts), The Dems cannot start an impeachment until after the 2006 elections.

Oh, and we sure as hell are not going to Shut The Fuck Up”.

No matter how much you whine about the use of freedom of speech.

Then regarding Feingold Mr. Cyn-Ir said stupidly “I still like the guy…but I worry about who he is listening to.”

He is listening to the American people who want to see this mis-administration censured, impeached, found guilty, tried at The Hague, and then hung.

He is not listening to a dumbshit BIAW slag like you.

    They were(are) NOT domestic wiretaps.

They were surveillance of telephone communications originating OUTSIDE of the country. The target of the collection was(is) the overseas station.

This is a strategic intelligence operation, not a law eforcement investigation.

Besides, you well know that a LAWYER someplace will make sure this info isn’t used in the unlikely event that the stateside party ends up in court.

What do George W. Bush, conservatives in general, and JCH have in common?

    They’re all fucking liars.

How to catch a Conservative in the act of lying:

    Note the date/time stamps.

    Here’s Bush lying:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/04/20040420-2.html

“Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires — a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way.”

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news.....219-2.html

Bush admitting he authorized warrantless wiretaps.

“So, consistent with U.S. law and the Constitution, I authorized the interception of international communications of people . . .”

Apparently, nothing has changed. He was lying then and he’s lying now.

    Here’s JCH lying:

“OSLO, Norway (March 13) – It almost seemed like a miracle to Haldis Gundersen when she turned on her kitchen faucet this weekend and found the water had turned into beer. Two flights down, employees and customers at the Big Tower Bar were horrified when water poured out of the beer taps.

By an improbable feat of clumsy plumbing, someone at the bar in Kristiandsund, western Norway, had accidentally hooked the beer hoses to the water pipes for Gundersen’s apartment.”

    “Judge Halts Moussaoui Sentencing Trial
    “By Michael J. Sniffen, AP

‘ALEXANDRIA, Va. (March 13) – An angry federal judge considered Monday whether to dismiss the government’s death penalty case against confessed al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui after a federal attorney coached witnesses in violation of her rules.

” … U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema said … it was ‘very difficult for this case to go forward.’

“Brinkema said a lawyer for the Transportation Security Administration sent e-mail to seven Federal Aviation Administration officials outlining the prosecution’s opening statements and providing commentary on government witnesses from the first day of testimony … in violation of … pretrial order barring witnesses from exposure to any opening statements or trial testimony.

“‘An attorney for the TSA … egregiously breached that order,’ she told jurors before excusing them ….

“Brinkema … said the rule against witnesses hearing testimony in advance is ‘a very important protection of the truth-seeking process.’ … The stunning development came … after the government informed the judge and the defense over the weekend of the attorney’s contact.

“‘This is the second significant error by the government affecting the constitutional rights of this defendant and more importantly the integrity of the criminal justice system of the United States …,’ Brinkema told lawyers outside the presence of the jury.”

In other news, the McClatchy newspaper chain is buying Knight-Ridder, which owns a 49.5% stake in the Seattle Times.

    http://articles.news.aol.com/b.....&cid=

    Here’s some info on McClatchy:

“Former reporter James McClatchy founded The Sacramento Bee in 1857 …. In the late [19]70s, McClatchy entered into the Northwest region, snatching up Alaska’s Anchorage Daily News, and Washington State’s Tri-City Herald and The News Tribune. … McClatchy Newspapers has passed through five generations of McClatchys; the family owns 80 percent of the company’s voting stock. … Employees call McClatchy ‘a people-oriented’ newspaper with a ‘corporate conscience.’ While there is ‘still plenty of the pressure,’ which is the norm for the newspaper industry, this pressure ‘tends to be self-directed out of a desire to excel, rather than being external pressure from overbearing management.’ … McClatchy lets its employees have ‘plenty of room to be creative ….”

    http://www1.iwon.com/home/care.....69,00.html

Hmmm … wonder if this acquisition might change the dynamic of the Seattle newspaper war? McClatchy looks like a more attractive proposition as a potential majority owner of the S.T. Instead of trying to kill the P-I, maybe Frank Blethen should just sell out to his new partner. Or maybe McClatchy might get interested in buying the P-I from Hearst, then it would own 3/4’s of the Seattle daily newspaper market. Yeah, this might get interesting.

You know GBS, I want the Dems to lead in 2008. And when the next attack occurs on your watch by islamofascists what will you say as the Dems relax the Patriot Act, open our borders more, relax asylum rules.

Hillary is opposed to tougher asylum eligibility rules. Her own words:

“We must continue our American tradition of welcoming immigrants who follow the rules and are trying to build a better life for their families. That’s why I am so troubled by the changes in immigration, environmental and privacy laws included in this bill. I also worry about the consequences likely to occur because of changes in the asylum rules in the Real ID Act. I’m proud of the fact that our country has historically welcomed asylum seekers and refugees. Utica, New York is one of the most welcoming places for refugees in the entire country. But, under these new rules, we’ll see whether America remains a welcoming place for those who seek refuge from persecution and violence.”

GBS – How many attackers had fake IDs? Check out this name: Kenys Galicia.

    Or,

“The Senate voted yesterday against fulfilling its pledge from last year to hire 2,000 more Border Patrol agents and fund 8,000 new detention beds for illegal aliens in fiscal 2006, as some potential presidential candidates weighed in on border security and illegal immigration.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat, who had made a splash recently with comments about cracking down on illegal immigration, voted against both amendments, as did Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the 2004 Democratic nominee, and Democratic Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, who has said he plans to run.”

“Anybody who comes into the United States of America across our southern border today and is from a country other than Mexico, 95 percent chance they will continue their journey to wherever they want to go,” Mr. McCain said. “We don’t have enough detention facilities. We don’t have enough beds.”

So GBS, is Hilary for or against Border security? Seems to me she’s against.

Or this wonder of the mind:

She also touched on several education issues, including her support of legislation known as the DREAM Act, which would allow illegal immigrant children who finish high school in the United States to avoid deportation, earn a path to citizenship, and possibly receive in-state college tuition rates. The National Council of La Raza held a rally in support of the measure on Sunday.

    http://www.gjsentinel.com/busi.....LLARY.html

“We want to make it possible for the 65,000 undocumented young people who graduate from our high schools each year to receive in-state tuition rates and pursue their own dreams,” she said. “I hope, with your help, we will make that Dream Act a reality this year.”

    TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION?

Seattle voters will decide the fate of Alaska Way Viaduct. Mayor Nickles wants to raise about half of the $750 million still needed for a tunnel from higher utility rates. But wait …

… does that mean suburban customers served by Seattle utilities (power and water) won’t get to vote, but will have to pay higher rates if city voters approve Nickels’ plan?

Nickels wants another $100 to $200 million from Seattle property owners. But wait — which property owners? Homeowners?

If the viaduct is replaced by a tunnel, improved views will increase the value of downtown commercial property, so why shouldn’t THOSE property owners fork over the $100 to $200 million? Why homeowners?

That doesn’t seem quite right, either.

Now let’s talk about CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES.

“Defeat the Right in Three Minutes” — Part I

“Have you got three minutes. Because that’s all you need to learn how to defeat the Republican Right. Just read through this handy guide and you’ll have everything you need to successfully debunk right-wing propaganda.

“It’s really that simple. First, you have to beat their ideology, which really isn’t that difficult. At bottom, conservatives believe in a social hierarchy of ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ that I call ‘corporate feudalism’. They have taken this corrosive social vision and dressed it up with a ‘respectable’ sounding ideology. That ideology is pure hogwash, and you can prove it.

“But you have to do more than defeat the ideology. You have to defeat the ‘drum beat’. You have to defeat the ‘propaganda machine’, that brainwashes people with their slogans and catch-phrases. You’ve heard those slogans. ‘Less government’, ‘personal responsibility’ and lots of flag waving. They are ‘shorthand’ for an entire worldview, and the right has been pounding their slogans out into the public domain for getting on forty years.

“So you need a really good slogan – a ‘counter-slogan’ really, to ‘deprogram’ the brainwashed … a ‘magic bullet’ that quickly and efficiently destroys the effectiveness of their ‘drum beat’… that … exposes the ugly reality of right-wing philosophy ….

“Our slogan contains the governing concept that explains the entire right-wing agenda. … You can see it in every policy, and virtually all of Republican rhetoric. And it’s so easy to remember, and captures the essence of the Republican Right so well, we can pin it on them like a ‘scarlet letter’.

    …”

CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES — Part II

    “Right-Wing Ideology in a Nutshell

“When you cut right through it, right-wing ideology is just ‘dime-store economics’ – intended to dress their ideology up and make it look respectable. You don’t really need to know much about economics to understand it. They certainly don’t. It all gets down to two simple words.

“‘Cheap labor’. That’s their whole philosophy in a nutshell – which … describes them perfectly. You’ve heard of ‘big-government liberals’. Well they’re ‘cheap-labor conservatives’.

“‘Cheap-labor conservative’ is a moniker they will never shake, and never live down. Because it’s exactly what they are. You see, cheap-labor conservatives are defenders of corporate America – whose fortunes depend on labor. The larger the labor supply, the cheaper it is. The more desperately you need a job, the cheaper you’ll work, and the more power those ‘corporate lords’ have over you. If you are a wealthy elite – or a ‘wannabe’ like most dittoheads – your wealth, power and privilege is enhanced by a labor pool, forced to work cheap.

“… let’s apply this principle, and see how many right-wing positions become instantly understandable. Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like social spending or our ‘safety net’. Why. Because when you’re unemployed and desperate, corporations can pay you whatever they feel like – which is inevitably next to nothing … they want you ‘over a barrel’ … to ‘work cheap or starve’.

“Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like the minimum wage, or other improvements in wages and working conditions. Why. These reforms undo all of their efforts to keep you ‘over a barrel’.

“Cheap-labor conservatives like ‘free trade’, NAFTA, GATT, etc. Why. Because there is a huge supply of desperately poor people in the third world, who are ‘over a barrel’, and will work cheap.

“Cheap-labor conservatives oppose a woman’s right to choose. Why. Unwanted children are an economic burden that put poor women ‘over a barrel’, forcing them to work cheap.

“Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like unions. Why. Because when labor ‘sticks together’, wages go up. …

“Cheap-labor conservatives constantly bray about ‘morality’, ‘virtue’, ‘respect for authority’, ‘hard work’ and other ‘values’. Why. So they can blame your being ‘over a barrel’ on your own ‘immorality’, lack of ‘values’ and ‘poor choices’.

“Cheap-labor conservatives encourage racism, misogyny, homophobia and other forms of bigotry. Why? Bigotry among wage earners distracts them, and keeps them from recognizing their common interests as wage earners.”

CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES — Part III

“The Cheap-Labor Conservative ‘Dirty Secret’: They Don’t Really Like Prosperity

“Maybe you don’t believe that cheap-labor conservatives like unemployment, poverty and ‘cheap labor’. Consider these facts.

“Unemployment was 23 percent when FDR took office in 1933. It dropped to 2.5 percent by time the next Republican was in the White House in 1953. It climbed back to 6.5 percent by the end of the Eisenhower administration. It dropped to 3.5 percent by the time LBJ left office. It climbed over 5 percent shortly after Nixon took office, and stayed there for 27 years, until Clinton brought it down to 4.5 percent early in his second term.

“That same period – especially from the late forties into the early seventies – was the ‘golden age’ of the United States. We sent men to the moon. We built our Interstate Highway system. We ended segregation in the South and established Medicare. In those days, a single wage earner could support an entire family on his wages. …

“These facts provide a nice background to evaluate cheap-labor conservative claims like ‘liberals are destroying America.’ In fact, cheap-labor conservatives have howled with outrage and indignation against New Deal liberalism from its inception in the 1930’s all the way to the present. … Cheap-labor conservatives opposed virtually all of the New Deal, including every improvement in wages and working conditions.

“Cheap-labor conservatives have a long and sorry history of opposing virtually every advancement in this country’s development going right back to the American revolution.

“Cheap-labor conservatives have hated Social Security and Medicare since their inception.

“Many cheap-labor conservatives are hostile to public education. They think it should be privatized. But why are we surprised. Cheap-labor conservatives opposed universal public education in its early days. School vouchers are just a backdoor method to ‘resegregate’ the public schools.

“Cheap-labor conservatives hate the progressive income tax …

“Cheap-labor conservatives like budget deficits and a huge national debt for two reasons. A bankrupt government has a harder time doing any ‘social spending’ – which cheap-labor conservatives oppose, and . . .

“Wealthy cheap-labor conservatives like say, George W. Bush, buy the bonds and then earn tax free interest on the money they lend the government. [Check out Dubya’s financial disclosures. The son of a bitch is a big holder of the T-bills that finance the deficit he is helping to expand.] The deficit created by cheap-labor conservatives while they posture as being ‘fiscally conservative’ – may count as the biggest con job in American history.

“‘Free Trade’, globalization, NAFTA and especially GATT are intended to create a world-wide ‘corporate playground’ where national governments serve the interests of corporations – which means ‘cheap labor’.

“The ugly truth is that cheap-labor conservatives just don’t like working people. They don’t like ‘bottom up’ prosperity, and the reason for it is very simple. Lords have a harder time kicking them around. Once you understand this about the cheap-labor conservatives, the real motivation for their policies makes perfect sense. Remember, cheap-labor conservatives believe in social hierarchy and privilege, so the only prosperity they want is limited to them. They want to see absolutely nothing that benefits the guy – or more often the woman – who works for an hourly wage.”

CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES — Part IV

“So there you have it, in one easy-to-remember phrase. See how easy it is to understand these cheap-labor conservatives. The more ignorant and destitute people there are – desperate for any job they can get – the cheaper the cheap-labor conservatives can get them to work.

“Try it. Every time you respond to a cheap-labor conservative … look for the ‘cheap labor’ angle. Trust me, you’ll find it. I can even show you the ‘cheap labor’ angle in things like the ‘war on drugs’, and the absurd conservative opposition to alternative energy.

“Next, make that moniker – cheap-labor conservatives – your ‘standard reference’ to the other side. One of the last revisions I made to this article was to find every reference to ‘conservatives’, ‘Republicans’, ‘right-wingers’, and ‘righties’, and replace it with ‘cheap-labor conservatives’.

“In fact, if you’re a cheap-labor conservative reading this, you should be getting sick of that phrase right about now. Exxxxcellent.

“If enough people will ‘get with the program’, it won’t be long before you can’t look at an editorial page, listen to the radio, turn on the TV, or log onto your favorite message board without seeing the phrase ‘cheap labor conservatives’ – and have plenty of examples to reinforce the message. …

“Now if you stop right here, you will have enough ammunition to hold your own with a cheap-labor conservative, in any public debate. You have your catch phrase, and you have some of the facts and history to give that phrase meaning.

“But if you really want to rip the heart out of cheap-labor conservative ideology, you may want to invest just a little bit more effort. It still isn’t all that complicated, though it is a bit more detailed than what we have covered so far.

“To explore that detail, just click one of the links below.

CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES — Part V

    “Less Government And Cheap Labor

“’Less Government’ is the central defining right-wing slogan. And yes, it’s all about ‘cheap labor’.

“Included within the slogan ‘less government’ is the whole conservative set of assumptions about the nature of the ‘free market’ and government’s role in that market.

“In fact, the whole ‘public sector/private sector’ distinction is an invention of the cheap-labor conservatives. They say that the ‘private sector’ exists outside and independently of the ‘public sector’. The public sector, according to cheap-labor ideology, can only ‘interfere’ with the ‘private sector’, and that such ‘interference’ is ‘inefficient’ and ‘unprincipled’. Using this ideology, the cheap-labor ideologue paints himself as a defender of ‘freedom’ against ‘big government tyranny’.

“In fact, the whole idea that the ‘private sector’ is independent of the public sector is totally bogus. In fact, ‘the market’ is created by public laws, public institutions and public infrastructure.

“But the cheap-labor conservative isn’t really interested in ‘freedom’. What the he wants is the ‘privatized tyranny’ of industrial serfdom, the main characteristic of which is – you guessed it – ‘cheap labor’.

“For proof, you need only look at exactly what constitutes ‘big government tyranny’ and what doesn’t. It turns out that cheap-labor conservatives are BIG supporters of the most oppressive and heavy handed actions the government takes.

“Cheap-labor conservatives are consistent supporters of the generous use of capital punishment. They say that ‘government can’t do anything right’ – except apparently, kill people. Indeed, they exhibit … unconcern for the … possibility that the government might make a mistake and execute the wrong man.

“Cheap-labor conservatives complain about the ‘Warren Court’ ‘handcuffing the police’ and giving ‘rights to criminals’. It never occurs to them, that our criminal justice system is set up to protect innocent citizens from abuses or just plain mistakes by government officials – you know, the ones who can’t do anything right.

“Cheap-labor conservatives support the ‘get tough’ and ‘lock ‘em up’ approach to virtually every social problem in the spectrum. In fact, it’s the only approach they support. As for the 2,000,000 people we have in jail today – a higher percentage of our population than any other nation on earth – they say our justice system is ‘too lenient’.

“Cheap-labor conservatives – you know, the ones who believe in ‘freedom’ – say our crime problem is because – get this – we’re too ‘permissive’. How exactly do you set up a ‘free’ society that isn’t ‘permissive’?

“Cheap-labor conservatives want all the military force we can stand to pay for and never saw a weapons system they didn’t like.

“Cheap-labor conservatives support every right-wing authoritarian hoodlum in the third world.

“Cheap-labor conservatives support foreign assassinations, covert intervention in foreign countries, and every other ‘black bag’ operation the CIA can dream up, even against constitutional governments, elected by the people of those countries.

“Cheap-labor conservatives support ‘domestic surveillance’ against ‘subversives’ – where ‘subversive’ means ‘everybody but them’.

“Cheap-labor believers in ‘freedom’ think it’s the government’s business if you smoke a joint or sleep with somebody of your own gender.

“Cheap-labor conservatives support our new concentration camp down at Guantanamo Bay. They also support these ‘secret tribunals’ with ‘secret evidence’ and virtually no judicial review of the trials and sentences. Then they say that liberals are ‘Stalinists’.

“And let’s not forget this perennial item on the agenda. Cheap-labor conservatives want to ‘protect our national symbol’ from ‘desecration’. They also support legislation to make the Pledge of Allegiance required by law. Of course, it is they who desecrate the flag every time they wave it to support their cheap-labor agenda. …

“Sounds to me like the cheap-labor conservatives have a peculiar definition of ‘freedom’. I mean, just what do these guys consider to be ‘tyranny’.

    “That’s easy. Take a look.

“‘Social spending’ otherwise known as ‘redistribution’. While they don’t mind tax dollars being used for killing people, using their taxes to feed people is ‘stealing’.

    “Minimum wage laws.

“Every piece of legislation ever proposed to improve working conditions, including the eight hour day, OSHA regulations, and even Child Labor laws.

“Labor unions, who ‘extort’ employers by collectively bargaining.

    “Environmental regulations and the EPA.

“Federal support and federal standards for public education.

“Civil rights legislation. There are still cheap-labor conservatives today, who were staunch defenders of ‘Jim Crow’ – including conspicuously Buckley’s ‘National Review’. Apparently, federal laws ending segregation were ‘tyranny’, but segregation itself was not.

“Public broadcasting – which is virtually the only source for classical music, opera, traditional theatre, traditional American music, oh yes, and Buckley’s ‘Firing Line’. This from the people constantly braying about the decay of ‘the culture’. The average cost of Public Television for each American is a whopping one dollar a year. ‘Its tyranny I tell you. Enough’s enough!’

“See the pattern? Cheap-labor conservatives support every coercive and oppressive function of government, but call it ‘tyranny’ if government does something for you – using their money, for Chrissake. Even here, cheap-labor conservatives are complete hypocrites. Consider the following expenditures:

“150 billion dollars a year for corporate subsidies.

“300 billion dollars a year for interest payments on the national debt – payments that are a direct transfer to wealthy bond holders, and buy us absolutely nothing.

“Who knows how many billions will be paid to American companies to rebuild Iraq – which didn’t need rebuilding three months ago.

“That’s all in addition to the Defense budget – large chunks of which go to corporate defense contractors.

“Is the pattern becoming clearer? These cheap-labor Republicans have no problem at all opening the public purse for corporate interests. It’s ‘social spending’ on people who actually need assistance that they just ‘can’t tolerate’.

“And now you know why. Destitute people work cheaper, while a harsh police state keeps them suitably terrorized.”

Um, Bob, where did I say that? No, if you’d been paying attention, you’d know that I think the extra cost of a tunnel should be raised by selling development rights to the air space over the tunnel OR taxing the downtown property owners whose property will become more valuable because of improved views.

The improved views won’t increase the value of a home in Northgate or Georgetown by one cent. However, they WILL increase the value of downtown waterfront properties by millions of dollars!

And WHY is rebuilding the sea wall a financial responsibility of Seattle homeowners? And not a federal responsibility, a Corps of Engineers budget item? Since when do homeowners have to pay property taxes for sea walls that not only don’t abut their property but which they can’t even see with a telescope?

“There simply was not enough time between the September primary and the November general election to ensure that ballots got out on time, particularly for overseas voters. LEGISLATURE LIMITS JUDICIAL CAMPAIGN DONATIONS

” … unregulated money has been flowing into state Supreme Court races and Seattle Port Commission contests. Judicial and port elections were not covered under the 1992 initiative that limits campaign donations. In 2000, the conservative Building Association of Washington dumped $95,000 into the successful Supreme Court campaign of the organization’s lawyer, Jim Johnson. He outspent his opponent three to one and has proved to be everything conservatives hoped for. This year, state Rep. Shay Schual-Berke, D–Normandy Park, successfully pushed legislation that puts a $1,400 donation limit on those races. Big money will still find a way to back candidates, but it will be a little harder.”

“are tolls … feasible? I can imagine it can get politically dicy with the state funding that’s involved. Just asking. Commentby For the Clueless— 3/13/06@ 8:35 pm”

My recollection is the Legislature not only allowed, but assumed, tolls would be part of the local funding. Personally, I strongly prefer tolls over raising utility rates or residential property taxes. However, I still don’t see why the city can’t pay for the tunnel by SELLING DEVELOPMENT RIGHTS TO THE AIR SPACE OVER THE TUNNEL.

“Perhaps the biggest unresolved issue is Puget Sound regional transportation. King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties have a backlog of transportation projects that have not been fully funded by the state … Alaskan Way Viaduct … and the Highway 520 floating bridge … are the two most prominent examples of failing infrastructure that does not have enough funding to be replaced.

“Regional taxpayers need to raise some combination of a motor vehicle excise tax, sales tax, and tolls to get these projects completed. …

“Even if legislators don’t solve the infrastructure crisis, at least they didn’t bail out the Sonics this year. Seattle’s pro basketball team, looking for taxpayer money to replace KeyArena, will have to wait until next year.”

Geov Parrish of Seattle Weekly agrees with Roger Rabbit:

“Would a tunnel … be a huge boon for every property owner west of Western Avenue? Of course. For that reason, the city should consider creating a neighborhood taxing district, similar to what’s been done in South Lake Union and elsewhere, so property owners cashing in on a public project contribute more to the cost of the project.”

However, Parrish is wrong about this:

“If Seattle can spare $1 billion for sports venues, we can surely tax ourselves to build a spanking new downtown waterfront, an amenity that would be enjoyed by many more of our region’s residents and visitors.”

The fallacy of this argument assumes that we can spent the billion bucks twice. Sorry, Geov, it’s gone — because it went to the sports stadiums, it can’t be used for a tunnel.

And the fact taxpayers ponied up $1 billion for sports stadiums doesn’t mean they’ve got another $1 billion that can be tapped. It means they’ve got $1 billion less than they had before.

Another unanswered question about a tunnel is: How do we keep corporate interests and developers from taking over the land freed up by replacing the viaduct with a tunnel, and clogging the waterfront with high rise condos? The average Seattleite would be no better off, while the developers would be a helluva lot richer — so why should we do that at taxpayer expense?

Is anybody out there paying any attention to what’s going to happen to the land above the tunnel?

Off Subject: Roger and Gang what do you say?
Democratic Senator Russ Feingold has introduced a resolution that would censor the President of the United States for “eavesdropping” in the wake of 9/11. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, moments ago, made a unanimous consent motion that the Senate vote on the resolution tonight. Maryland Democrat Paul Sarbanes rose to object to the motion. Frist then motioned to vote on the resolution again tomorrow. Sarbanes objected, saying no vote should take place on the resolution until Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid had cleared the timing.
In other words, Democrats know this is a political stunt, without a chance of passage, but want to time it politically for maximum impact.
Later, Harry Reid took the floor to say he was offended that Frist would go to the floor and motion for unanimous consent on such an “important issue” without talking to him first.
Reid’s two-facedness knows no bounds. Does he not remember last year taking the Senate floor and invoking Senate Rule XXI, thereby shutting down the Senate? When he made that parliamentary move to score political points over pre-war intelligence, he broke all Senate precedent by invoking the draconian measure without first seeking the compliance of the Senate Majority Leader as has always been done in the past.

Assimilated Press: Washington, D.C. – The Republican Party announced today that opposition to masturbation before marriage will be in the party platform for the 2006 election. Rick Santorum, who introduced the measure, said “It is important to think only good pure thoughts and not to think about Ann Coulter shoving a dildo up Bill O’Reilly’s ass. I mean, um, um, is this being recorded? Can we erase what I just said? Yeah, just the last part. Good.” Santorum went on to say that “sex is dirty but masturbation is okay after marriage if it is done in a locked room while reading The Weekly Standard or Wall Street Journal.”

To discourage masturbation before marriage, the Republican National Committee has begun distributing life size posters of Rush Limbaugh and Kate O’Beirne frolicking in the nude which when hung on bedroom walls has been shown to be 100 percent effective in stopping all sexual activity (side effects include nausea and a disrespect for humanity).

It hurts to be have your lying sack of shit hero, JCH, bitch-slapped off the blog, doesn’t it?

Yep, you’re one of the angry right-wing, Bush Republican wacko’s who’ve realized they’ve been lied to by their idealouges.

Have you read William F. Buckley’s comments yet regarding your false god, George W. Bush. Let me summarize it in a nutshell: Bush’s Iraq policy is a failure.

    Buh-bye.

    A) I don’t need an excuse to talk about JCH, he was caught “RED” handed lying on the blog. AM I RIGHT? Fuckin’ A, I’m right. Those were his words, he owns them, and I am forcing him to take ownership of his fucking lies. So much so, that GIGANTIC LYING PUSSY hasn’t had the courage to post here lately. you lying pieces of shit conservatives are corrupt beyond any historical measure. You’re ideology is ruining America.

    B) When you’ve earned my respect, I’ll answer your questions. You’re a Bush Republican, which means you’re never going to earn my respect. I am not compelled to answer any questions posed by an unpatriotic, un-American, piece of shit like you.

108, Libertarian, I never attended flight school. Hence, I never “washed out”. All a figment of GBS’s vivid “imagination”. All my training was done in Newport, RI and Coronado, Ca, as well as the old Philadelphia Ship Yard. Then, three WESTPACs of 6 monthe each , one ten month IO cruise, and a tour in Coronado at the NAB. Four years at sea, and two ashore.

Who said I was rich? Are you putting words in my mouth? Please show me where I wrote “I am rich” or anything close? You are a dull knife. I have bills like others. What I said was the economy is great for me. Regarding the Eye of the Needle (the opening in the Jerusalem wall which you misinterpreted like many other Biblical things in the Bible) and the rich person, I am not rich. Personally, I don’t care what color you are. I’m sure we have other black commenters here, but they don’t preface what they have to say by covering themselves in the protective mantle of blackness.

I will reply. But as others on your side said when you go to racism you step over the line. Do you compremend that muthufucka? You attack me because of my race not because of my commentary. I’m leaving on evening of the 24th on British Airways to London. The family and I are going to spend some a few days in London then head down to Florence, Italy for 10 days. I have a passion for the Medachi art collection that I must see.

Then, we’re headed over to the Costa Del Sol in Spain for a week, then back to London for a few more days before we head home.

I’ve got a ton of personal and business stuff to take care of before I leave and my days are pretty well spoken for. There’s an outside chance on the 21st, but it’s slim. I’ll keep you posted.
