Overall, I’m feeling pretty good about a 13 point swing in twelve months in Blackburn’s old district in a state like Tennessee where the political, cultural, and media landscape is decidely skewed in favor of the New Fascism.
Of course, accounting for that 13 point swing is the most important part. And that will be difficult to know for a few months. Turnout looks to have fallen off by half since last year, which is about what was expected. But looking at the precinct by precinct numbers, while maybe as much as half of the swing is from higher than expected turnout in heavily Democratic precincts, it looks like in some of the precincts that Fat Hitler carried last fall as many as 2 in 3 of his 2024 voters decided to stay home. Those two things combined, if they can be replicated elsewhere next fall, could provide a 4 to 5 point electoral shift in swing districts.
Once these numbers get crunched and analyzed we can expect to see a bunch of New Fascist retirement announcements. And that is actually great news for the party in the minority in the House and Senate. Especially in mid terms you can’t over estimate the power of incumbency and name recognition. It just leaves it for the Democratic campaigns and their supporters to take advantage of this electoral shift by doing the work and the right messaging.
It’s a good Wenesday morning for Democrats. Let’s all get to work and pile up some more.
