I see on NBC News (and in the blogosphere) that the xenophobes are going bananas because some guy translated “The Star Spangled Banner” into Spanish. Treason! they scream. Yeah, sure.
Francis Scott Key, an American, wrote the lyrics to TSSB buuuut … our national anthem was set to the music of “”To Anacreon in Heaven,” an English song, at a time when we were at war with England. Now there’s treason for ya! Hell, anybody who sings Key’s words to that ENGLISH TUNE is a FUCKING TRAITOR!!!
Hey, I need you moonbats to do me a favor.
I filled up my luxury SUV today. Cost me about 70 bucks. I can afford it of course, but I’d rather spend my money on other things.
I need you moonbats to do the “progressive” and “socially responsible” thing. Reduce demand so that the market equilibrium point moves to a lower price. So I need you to walk. I need you to ride a bike. I need you to take a bus. I need you to spend rifuckingdiculous amounts of money on moonbat hybrid cars. I need you to telecommute so you can fuck off at home while claiming to be working (this works especially well if you are gummint employee.)
By reducing demand, not only can you lower the price for your friend Mark The Redneck, but you can also show Big Oil a thing or two. You can show them that you are NOT hostage to them.
So please reduce your demand. Do it for MTR. Do it against Big Oil.
Thank you.
Next thing you know, Republicans will sing “God Save the King” when Dubya enters the room.

Roger,
Your facetious conclusions are not supported by any facts. The approved version of the Star Spangled Banner is in English – not Spanish – was passed by Congress in 1931. For someone to try and change a tradition like that is silly. Next thing you know they will alter the Flag so it looks like the Mexican flag. Is that the direction in our lives that you are supporting? Your conclusion about singing the song in English because it was based upon an English tune is a logical fallacy of Appeal to Ridicule. What are your positions on the illegal immigrant problem? What solutions do you support?
Sillyguy is MR.FACTGUY. But he always gets them wrong. Francis Scott Key would be interested to know that his lyrics were written and approved by a committee in Herbert Hoover’s presidency at the height of the Republican caused Depression.
What a ,well, silly guy!

Care to provide a citation that “Francis Scott Key would be interested to know that his lyrics were written and approved by a committee in Herbert Hoover’s presidency at the height of the Republican caused Depression.” Do you mean to say that Francis Scott Key never wrote the lyrics?
Your reference to the Great Depression and attempting to link the Star Spangled Banner is another logical fallacy of a Red Herring and has absolutely nothing to do with the subject.
A simple google search turns up:
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0194015.html
“On Sept. 13, 1814, Francis Scott Key visited the British fleet in Chesapeake Bay to secure the release of Dr. William Beanes, who had been captured after the burning of Washington, DC. The release was secured, but Key was detained on ship overnight during the shelling of Fort McHenry, one of the forts defending Baltimore. In the morning, he was so delighted to see the American flag still flying over the fort that he began a poem to commemorate the occasion. First published under the title “Defense of Fort M’Henry,” the poem soon attained wide popularity as sung to the tune “To Anacreon in Heaven.” The origin of this tune is obscure, but it may have been written by John Stafford Smith, a British composer born in 1750. “The Star-Spangled Banner” was officially made the national anthem by Congress in 1931, although it already had been adopted as such by the army and the navy.”
People who want to drill into our strategic oil reserves so Exxon/Mobil can have some short term profit are flat out TRAITORS!!!
SILLYGUY: yOU’RE AN IDIOT.
re 32: Sicklyguy: You are a dumass, even worse than MTR!
The depth of your stupidity is stupendous.
From what I can tell, the bill in question, S.1932, was approved by both houses of congress in identical form:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/.....01932:@@@S
In any event, the lawsuit sounds bogus to me. If Bush (and the leaders of the House and Senate, who both signed stating it was passed by both houses in identical format) made such an egregious mistake back on February 8, 2006, why has it taken these Democrats until April 27, 2006 to notice this mistake? Sounds like the Democrats were asleep at the switch.
Given the complexity of many pieces of legislation, it would not surprise me in the slightest if occasional typographical errors are made — especially those contributing to both houses passing the bill in a slightly different format.
If we were to strike down the entirety of every law that contained such typos, there would be a lot of true injustice as a result.

For you there are no shades of gray. You aren’t here to learn anything, or to find some common ground. You are here purely to beat up on people you disagree with.
That’s not why I’m here. One of the things I appreciate about academic discourse is that people with very different views can have a civil, fact-grounded discussion.
If you are so interested in economic theory you might benefit by going back to school. If nothing else, that would help you improve your debating style, which really is rather juvenile. Don’t believe me — go have a talk with an economics professor.

“* Bryan Mound – located near Freeport, Texas. Has a capacity of 226 million barrels (36,000,000 m³).
* Big Hill – located near Winnie, Texas. Has a capacity of 160 million barrels (25,000,000 m³).
* West Hackberry – located near Lake Charles, Louisiana. Has a capacity of 219 million barrels (35,000,000 m³).
* Bayou Choctaw – located near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Has a capacity of 72 million barrels (11,000,000 m³).”
http://www.answers.com/main/nt.....038;gwp=16
Did you mean to say that we should not use oil from the strategic oil reserves during this current and probably long term price increase in gasoline or did you mean ANWR?
I don’t think that using our reserves would help gas prices all that much. Getting additional refineries and sources would help in the short term. Getting alternative energy sources would help even more. Profits are a good thing for a corporation and in this case if Exxon reinvests its profits in more sources, refineries, and alternative energy sources, it would be a good thing. Exxon did spend $4.8 Billion on capital investments and exploration the first quarter and paid out $2 billion in dividends.
I do think the compensation package for Lee R. Raymond was excessive. That money would have been spent reinvested.
It would be interesting to see what Exxon’s profit is on one gallon of gasoline.

‘PROGRESSIVE’ MEDIA STALLS: ‘AIR AMERICA’ IN AUDIENCE PLUNG NYC, ‘DAILY KOS’ BOOK SELLS ONLY 3,600 COPIES
Wed Apr 26 2006 11:39:51 ET
Left-leaning new media has hit turbulence at the marketplace, newly released stats show.
A book hyped by major media and of course by the head ass himself) as documenting a progressive revolution of “blogs” and political power, DAILY KOS ‘CRASHING THE GATE,’ has sold only 3,630 copies since its release last month, according to NIELSEN’s BOOKSCAN.
[NIELSEN claims only 2,062 copies of DAILY KOS have been purchased at the retail level; the rest coming through ‘discount’ outlets.]
Meanwhile, the just released radio Winter Book [Jan-Mar 2006] from ARBITRON shows AIR AMERICA in New York City losing more than a third of its audience — in the past year!
Among all listeners 12+, it was a race to the bottom for AIR AMERICA and WLIB as mid-days went from a 1.6 share during winter 2005 to a 1.0 share winter 2006.
During PM drive, host Randi Rhodes plunged to 27,900 listeners every quarter hour, finishing 25th place in her time slot, down from 49,000 listeners every quarter hour last year.

Thanks for clearing that up, Redneck! Now we know — in the subject of economics, you’re a non-degreed know-it-all. This is not unusual for a wingnut — most wingnuts are self-professed economic “experts”. But understanding wingnut economics is easy for lay people (and lay rabbits, and rabbits who get laid). All you have to know is wingnuts are
CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES
“When you cut right through it, right-wing ideology is just ‘dime-store economics’ – intended to dress their ideology up and make it look respectable. You don’t really need to know much about economics to understand it. They certainly don’t. It all gets down to two simple words.
“‘Cheap labor’. That’s their whole philosophy in a nutshell …. The larger the labor supply, the cheaper it is. The more desperately you need a job, the cheaper you’ll work …. If you are a wealthy elite – or a ‘wannabe’ like most dittoheads – your wealth, power and privilege is enhanced by a labor pool, forced to work cheap.”

Roger – The point I was making that your conclusion was ridiculous that anyone singing TSSB is English is a traitor. You have a strange sense of humor.
The TSSB, our National Anthem, only has an approved english version. People learn foreign languages faster by immersion so in my opinion immigrants should use the english version; that does not make them traitors. Personally, I like the traditional English version. If you feel like singing it Spanish please do so. In fact you could sing at the ‘Drinking Liberally’ meeting and get it on a PODCast for all of us to hear your version.

Hey MTR — my list of dingbat legal theories isn’t as long as your list of moonbat economic theories, but here it is:
ROGER RABBIT’S LIST OF DINGBAT LEGAL THEORIES
“Ummm…. if the President says it… it’s not a ‘leak’. A ‘leak’ is disclosing information without authorization. Since the President is the boss, it is by definition not a leak since he can authorize whatever the fuck he wants. That’s how things work when you’re boss.” Commentby Mark The Redneck— 4/10/06@ 3:06 pm

What’s so silly about saying someone is a traitor for singing AN ENGLISH TUNE when the country is AT WAR WITH ENGLAND? Sounds like treason to me. What’s silly is all the wingnuts trying to justify and rationalize real treason — the outing of a covert CIA agent, blowing the cover of an operation that took 25 years to construct in the process — as political retaliation against her husband.
71
If they can’t get jobs, they won’t come here, right? Shoot the employers, confiscate their property, and provide free health care for everybody!
77
His source for those figures is DRUDGE?
HEE HOO HAW HA HAR DE HAR HAR HEE HEE HAW HOO HAR HA HA HA HEE HAR HAW HUH HOO HAW HAW HA HEE HAR HA HA HO HO HEE HAR YUCK HAW HAR HOO HA CHUCKLE HAR HAR HO HA HUH SNICKER HOO HAR HA HAW HA HAR HOO HEE HEE HAR HAR HA HA HAW HAR HAR HEE HOO HAR HA HUH HOO HAW HEE HAR HO HO HE HAR HAW HEE HEE HO HO HA HA HOO HAR HA HA

wow this thread is over 90 posts already! stefan can’t remember the last time he got 90 in a week, let alone a day!

I agree with you totally which is why I said what I did in that post. Bush’s energy policies have been a failure for the past five years. It is interesting to note that we were suppose to be energy independent by 1980 but have not even come close with any administration. All we get is lip service and the continuation of the status quo. I can’t remember the URL but I was reading that at some point the energy prices will go so high and alternative sources won’t be able to satisfy the demand and our economy and ‘world order’ will turn into chaos.
Next thing you know, Drudge will come out with something like,
“HorsesAss, an obscure liberal blog in Seattle, has fewer than a dozen regular readers and rarely gets more than 1 comment per thread.”
wow this thread is already up to 95 posts!!!

Why should I answer your questions? If you want to know the answers, look them up yourself! I’m not your fucking research assistant. I’m a fucking bunny.
Hey silly guy, what do you think we should do about the problem that Bush is lying every time he opens his mouth?
93
WHAT??!!! You’re CRITICIZING Bush? Don’t you know that’s HERESY? What are you, a wingnut who thinks for himself? That’s not allowed, you know. Better get in line, son, or they’ll kick you out of the Party.
wow this thread is up to almost 100 posts!
WOW!!! THIS THREAD HAS 1OO POSTS IN LESS THAN 6 HOURS!!! THAT’S MORE THAN STEFAN’S PATHETIC LITTLE BLOG GETS IN A WHOLE FUCKING MONTH!!!
Hey MTR if you see this in your rearview mirror swing by Montlake Ale House and slow down as you go by okay?

RE: 77… yea you sure debunked it alright… and I quote…”As of this morning, for Armstrong and Kos’s Crashing the Gate (March 2006), Bookscan reports 2598 retail sales and 1804 “discount” sales, for a total of 4402.” And that’s with Amazon discounting it 40%!
A whopping 4402… I hape the sacrificial donkette gets that many votes!
ROGER RABBIT MUST BE A NAZI …
I can’t wait for the Rapture to get here! 144,000 less Republicans!! Not enough, but a start.
Commentby Roger Rabbit— 4/27/06@ 10:50 pm
Actually the Rapture means 144,000 fewer Jews:
Revelation 7:4-8
4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
5 from the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000
6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000
7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000
8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
Revelation 14:1-5
1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.
2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps.
3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.
5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.
How appropriate that the ILLEGAL THIEFS choose MAY DAY for their anti-American screed.

TACOMA: Mother of late police chief wins $250,000 in state lottery
THE NEWS TRIBUNE
Published: April 27th, 2006 01:00 AM
A Tacoma woman won $250,000 this month in the state lottery.
Beverly Brame bought her Mega Millions ticket at Pacific Lanes, 7015 S. D St. She hit five of five numbers, less the Mega Ball, in the April 3 drawing, according to the state lottery Web site. She could not be reached for comment.
Brame is the mother of Tacoma Police Chief David Brame, who fatally shot his wife and then himself three years ago in a Gig Harbor parking lot.

You’re behind the times, Richard! The Rapture USED to mean 144,000 less Jews — until the Rethugs hijacked it. They hijacked Old Glory and 9/11, so why not hijack the Rapture, too? Rethugs grab everything that isn’t nailed down! The fact I merely observed the truth — that Rethugs STOLE the Rapture from the Jews — doesn’t make me a Nazi.
On the other hand, being klake would make YOU a nazi. If you were klake, you’d definitely be a nazi, because
klake is a nazi

The lottery must be rigged. Everything else in Tacoma is rigged.
I see in the news that Bush is now proposing to approve the sale of 9 plants that make critical parts for U.S. military equipment to a Dubai company. Having failed to give them our ports, Bush is now trying to make up for it by giving them our defense contractors!
ROGER RABBIT POLL
Which is more unpatriotic?

[ ] 2. Selling U.S. ports to towelheads

wow! this thread is already over 110 posts! That’s more than stefan’s sucky little blog gets in a year.

Roger
You have a very bad habit of categorizing people into two cartoon character groups, republican or democrats. You need to add some dimensions to your two dimensional life rather than posting nonsnese on this blog and then bleating about it just see yourself. BTW – I was asking for your opinion and point of view on illegal immigrants. Your two dimensional life is showing as you don’t have the dimension to respond with your opinion on that subject.
@33 People who want to drill into our strategic oil reserves so Exxon/Mobil can have some short term profit are flat out TRAITORS!!!
Is that what you said when the Clinton administration sold off large amounts of the strategic reserve to Occidental Petroleum, in which Al Gore coincidentally controlled a quarter of a million dollars worth of stock?
sillyguy
perhaps while waiting for RR’s answers you could regale us with YOUR reasoned positions on immigration.
It would be both more interesting and more in the spirit of discourse than merely repeating a question ads nauseam.
Ah, Occdental Petroleum…
Paraphrased from Salon.com:
In an investigation that grew out of Watergate, Armand Hammer, of the Occidental Petroleum Company, had pleaded guilty in 1975 to laundering $54,000 in illicit contributions to Nixon’s reelection war chest. In the summer of 1989, Goerge H.W. Bush gave Hammer what he wanted: a pardon. Considering his original offense, it was ironic that Hammer won what he called the “vindication” of a presidential pardon only months after he poured well over $100,000 into Republican Party coffers, and another $100,000 into the accounts of the Bush-Quayle Inaugural committee.
Yeah, Occidental is a big Democratic scandal.

Where in that URL is this true? Oh you mean where you said in another thread GWB was president 01/19/2000 because you said so?
Pudd: You’re an idiot: http://www.hlrp.blogspot.com/2.....chive.html
re 110: Well, Roger, that’s money in the Bush family’s pocket . And when it comes to patriotism or money in the Bush family’s pocket, well, at least we know where that portion of our tax money went.

Daddy Love
Three requirements:
1. Immigration needs to be managed
2. You can’t export 12 million people
3. Immigrant migrant workers need to be managed
How you do that is an interesting conumdrum that even the Democrats or Republicans in Congress can’t agree on.
I think that a guest worker program is needed
There has to be a process to assimilate the current population of illegal immigrants i.e. citizenship
The current open borders need to be managed to stem the flow of illegal immigrants
What would your suggestions be?

“Roger You have a very bad habit of categorizing people into two cartoon character groups, republican or democrats.” Commentby sillyguy— 4/28/06@ 7:25 am
You think that’s bad, you should see some of my other bad habits.
113
So now I’m being criticized by a wingnut for STEREOTYPING Republicans …
113
You want to know what my opinion on illegal immigrants is? Okay.
Roger Rabbit thinks Republicans are incredibly hypocritical to complain about illegal immigrants after voting for a president who is letting in hordes of illegal immigrants because they work cheap.
Roger Rabbit thinks if you’re going to get worked up about laws being broken, then let’s start with the president of the United States, whose lawbreaking affects all of us, instead of worrying about some poor schmuck campesino who’s just trying to support his family by doing stoop labor in the fields for $4 an hour.
Roger Rabbit thinks if illegal immigrants pay school taxes, there’s absolutely no reason why their kids should be barred from attending the schools their taxes pay for.
Roger Rabbit would be ecstatic if illegal immigrants were our country’s biggest problem. Republicans are our country’s biggest problem.
Roger Rabbit thinks if right wingers think illegal immigration is as bad as they say it is, right wing employers should stop hiring illegal immigrants to pay less for labor and make more profit, e.g. Wal-Mart, the wingnuts’ favorite store.
Roger Rabbit thinks if you really want to stop illegal immigration, then throw all the Republican farmers and business owners who are hiring the illegal immigrants in jail!
Roger Rabbit thinks the illegal immigrants who would love to become American citizens and even sing “The Star Spangled Banner” in Spanish are more patriotic than the lying, thieving, warmongering right wing fascists who treat the Constitution like asswipe.
Roger Rabbit thinks if you kick out all the illegal immigrants, you must have a burning desire to pick your lettuce yourself, and pay more for groceries.
Does that answer your question?
116
Hmmm … and they complain about “Clinton selling pardons” but it’s okay when Republicans do it.

If “management” is what we need, we’re in deep shit, because Republicans have proven they can’t even manage their own lunch let alone 12 million immigrants.
125
Roger,
Actually, I think (IMHO) that the whole issue is an attempt at a back door fix to the social security funding issues. :-)
A quote from the President.
“I think people who want to be citizens of this country ought to learn English,” Bush said.
Does this mean that he will learn English?
poor little darcy, the sacrificial donkette:
“Battle for the House: WA-8”
“Voters in Washington state’s 8th district have never elected a Democrat. So why is WA-8 on the DCCC’s list of targets this November? Good question. One reason is that the district went slightly in favor of John Kerry in 2004 (51-48) and Al Gore in 2000 (49-47). Another is that Democrats think they have found a credible challenger to first-term Republican Dave Reichert in former Microsoft project manager Darcy Burner. One final bright spot is that with help from the DCCC and the Internet left, Ms. Burner out raised Mr. Reichert in the first quarter of this year, $334,000 to $268,000.
But that’s about where the good news ends. In 2004, Mr. Reichert ran 4 points better than Mr. Bush in the district, retaining an open GOP seat by beating popular radio talk show host Dave Ross 52-47 in a race many thought would be closer. Mr. Reichert is also dominating the money race: he raised more than a $1.1 million last year, causing his campaign manager to declare in January, “A war chest of this size will put this race out of reach.” Mr. Reichert holds 2-1 cash on hand advantage over Ms. Burner, notwithstanding her Q1 performance.
Ms. Burner and the DCCC want to portray Mr. Reichert as too conservative for the district and a rubber stamp for President Bush who is extremely unpopular in Washington. But that will also be a tall order: Mr. Reichert has demonstrated an independent streak during his freshman term, voting against his party on the Terri Schiavo resolution and drilling in ANWR, the latter being an issue voters in the Evergreen State are unlikely to hold against him no matter how high gas prices might climb this summer.
For his part, Mr. Reichert wants to exploit the “stature gap” with Ms. Burner. He is a 30-year law enforcement veteran who rose to prominence by helping capture the Green River Killer in 2001. Mr. Reichert is also the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Homeland Security, making him one of only six members in the history of the House to head a subcommittee in their freshman term. Republicans are eager to contrast their candidate with the 35-year old Burner, whom they describe as a political neophyte and “part time liberal activist” who should be running for city council, not Congress.
The reality is that despite all the rhetoric, Washington 8 is not a top tier pick up opportunity for the Democrats. This is a seat that will only flip if they have a big night in November, and even though that is where some Democrats hope they are headed, right now it remains little more than a possibility.”
Sillyguy: Moonbat hairy poontang doesn’t need to prove his points. He’s a librul. Just writing them on ASSes is proof enough (at least in his nanometric mind) he’s right. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
“Culture of Corruption” update.

F.B.I. Set to Present Subpoenas to Lawmaker’s Nonprofits
By JODI RUDOREN
The F.B.I. has notified three nonprofit organizations created by Representative Alan B. Mollohan and financed primarily through special federal appropriations he steered their way that they should expect subpoenas soon for financial and other records.
Mr. Mollohan, Democrat of West Virginia, stepped down from the House ethics committee last week over accusations of financial impropriety that stem largely from a complaint the conservative National Legal and Policy Center has filed with the United States attorney in Washington.

And Democrat dumbass liberals wonder why prices for energy are high………..
Dem energy policy [ex Hollywood Democrats, Kerry and Kennedy’s private jets, 110 ft Chris Crafts, mansions, water craft, and SUVs]
– tax and litigate as many energy/oil/transportation/retailers/corner gas station owners [ producers] as possible
– don’t drill anywhere, ingore the Russian drilling in Siberia, but it’s OK for the Chicomms and Cubans to drill 75 miles from Key West, FL because they are sweet and socialist. – blame Bush
– don’t pursue nuclear power. Jane Fonda’s movie taught all Democrats everything they need to know!! Only the French should because they are socialist.
– Always blame Bush
– don’t allow new hydro
– blame oil companies. Tax them even more. Add 50 cents more in taxes per gallon, then blame Bush for higher pump prices!!!.
– tear down old hydro
– blame Republicans. Oil Companies must not show any profits. Profits are evil.
– don’t allow wind mills if they spoil a Kennedy view off Cape Cod.
– blame people that drive to work alone. Make them use bikes and/or walk. No horses because of horse poop. Democrat welfare hacks who need to power their 42 inch Sony plasma HDTVs in Detroit, Gary, Philly, and South Central LA are OK.
– don’t use coal. Coal kills.
– blame businesses that use energy to produce products or generate jobs. “Guvment” jobs: good, private sector jobs: bad, must tax them until they go away.
– don’t give incentives to anyone, anywhere to find and develop hydrocarbons. “All you need is love”!!
– blame capitalists and shareholders of any energy/oil companies for being “greedy”. Russian oil companies are OK. So are Chicomm energy companies. EXXON is a four letter word!!
