Nothing really. Not as far as the investigation is concerned.
It was always a “criminal” investigation. Legally there’s little distinction where the government is looking into criminal misconduct on the part of a company and its officers and employees. There must be an underlying crime in order to even seek a civil, monetary penalty. In most cases where a distinction is made between a civil monetary penalty and a criminal custodial penalty it comes down to establishing criminal intent.
In cases involving financial crimes it can be more difficult to prove criminal intent as set forth in the statute. But that distinction is normally set aside until charges are ready to be filed and negotiations are undertaken to obtain pleas.
To be blunt, James is running for something. Governor? Senator? I dunno. But somebody on her coms staff decided now was good time to put her on a national media stage for a day or two.
Consign yourself to the expectation that despite bluster and enthusiasm, Trump and his family are unlikely to face personal criminal culpability for all his company’s corruption and fraud. The all appear too ignorant and detached from the details. Perhaps some of his employees like Weiselberg may do time. They probably should. But unless they began cooperating sooner than we know and got the failson or his father on tape that’s probably as far as it will go.

My favorite part is where they quote the judge’s order denying them bankruptcy protection like that’s a big win for the team and promises a bright future. When you go before a bankruptcy court seeking protection from creditors and financial obligations one of the things you are stating to the court is that you are unable to continue forward viably without that protection. That’s kind of the point. Pretty much all your previous work and filings are devoted to making that point, arguing over the objections of your creditors that the things those creditors expect of you are either impossible or would lead directly to your financial failure.
After having made those arguments extensively before the Texas court that without protection the organization is doomed, here the NRA is now telling its
dupesmembers that without that bankruptcy protection that they “can have great confidence in its plans for the future”. So, nice groundwork for a member class action for fraud. Cool beans.My second favorite is the part where they refer to the “doom and gloom” predicted by “so-called experts, many in the far-left media”. Why? Because these were actually the NRA’s own experts, hired to carefully analyze their accounts and their financial position and then describe that “doom and gloom” to the bankruptcy court in support of their petition. I mean, it’s not as if “the far-left media” employs big teams of forensic accountants and financial analysts from Deloitte at $700 an hour. It’s getting late, and I don’t think I told this story but I thought I meant to, so not sure.
The other day I’m riding the bus from work (lower Manhattan) to 101 street on the east side to an appointment at MSBI Hospital. I ride the bus nowadays because it’s safer, and the Subway system is so antiquated and breaksdown so frequently I hate being stuck on a train in a tunnel for more than 5 minutes. One time I was stuck for 30 minutes, but that was an exception because some guy was going around for weeks interupting the morning commute by pulling the emergency breaks and the never caught him. But this time he jumped out on the tracks after pulling the brakes, and the train wasn’t moving till they found the guy or made sure the tracks were clear and the police were waiting at the next station and had to inspect car by car before they would open the doors or proceed. What a pain in the ass that day – seems to always happen when your already late for work.
But I digress….so the other day I get on the bus, it’s not to full. After like the second stop, a young black kid comes on. He’s maybe 14, stout, and tough look on his face, but a real teddy bear. He sits across from me towards the back of the bus. After sitting he reaches into his book back and takes disenfeccant spray out from the bag and sprays the seat adjacent to him (after he sit) before resting his book back on the sprayed seat. Smart kid! I admired that. He probably takes the bus because he knows it’s safer too.
I found that amusing, maybe he saw me smile beneath my mask. But he still has this tough look when he looks at me. But he stared at me for the attention. It’s about 1/2 hour ride uptown, he goes the same distance as I but gets off one stop before I got off.
During the ride he spoke on his cell phone for a portion of the ride, talking real serious to whoever he was talking to like he was a grown up and not 13-14 year old spoiled kid. I’d glance over at him at times and he’d stare back. We didn’t nod or say anthing to each other.
But I admired the kid. So as he gets up, I put out my fist, and in return he fist bumps me.
