Anyone active blogging locally here in Washington is probably familiar with Angie in WA State. She was an early commenter on my first blog (blogspot seems to have taken down the comments from that era, but if memory serves, she was the first person who I didn’t know personally to comment there). She is most active as a diarist and commenter on Daily Kos, but she is all over. In recent years, her Twitter has been an inspiration to read.
Anyway, this is preamble to say that she’s running for Congress in the 3rd, against Herrera Beutler. She’d make a hell of a great Congresswoman, and I bet she’d make a hell of a great candidate too.
I hope you’ll consider a donation, or volunteering to walk a precinct. I don’t know if the Democrats are actively running anyone down there, but I can’t imagine there’s anyone I’d prefer to see in Congress from the area. She’s going to try to run a grass roots campaign more than a money-focused one, but all campaigns need money.
Good luck!

She’s running to represent Longview, a city with stubbornly high

unemployment.
Maybe someone could ask her if she’d support a state-wide minimum wage increase that would apply to Longview in the same way as it would apply to Everett and Bellevue.
’cause she wouldn’t mind a substantial jump in her constituents’ unemployment rate if it would benefit citizens in Bellevue, would she? Greater good an’ all.

So the $500,000-a-year radiologist is still having a conniption over other people making $15 an hour, eh? If we give them that, next thing you know, they’ll want to live in apartments instead of tents. We’re sure making it tough to be a conservative these days. Sux to be you, Bob.

Who?

Wish her luck, I’d love to see us take that seat back. I’m now following her twitter feed.

Carl,
That’s a very nice recommend and I’m very appreciative!
For anyone interested, I’ll have a campaign website up within a week or so and will be taking donations. You’ll be able to find a link to it on my Twitter feed as soon as it goes live.
Jamie Herrera Beutler (R) already has about a Million in her campaign warchest – but I’m not even going to try and match that. I want to run a Ground Game, precinct level campaign that will depend MORE on volunteers and less on money.
It’ll be how I govern as a US House Representative. I refuse to spend 3 days a week begging for money to run for re-election – should I be lucky enough to win this office in 2016. I’ll be spending my time working to bring decent paying jobs to the 3rd District of Washington State and to protect the natural resources which make our little corner of the world such a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family!
Again, thanks so much for the mention!
Angie

re 1: A raise in unemployment benefits would have the effect of creating more employment as would a raise in the minimum wage. Haven’t you ever heard of the multiplier effect?
Why can’t you understand that a lowering of unemployment by paying a non-liveable wage is a step backwards? Taxpayers will be subsidizing businesses that are too cheap or non-viable to pay a living wage.

“Why can’t you understand that a lowering of unemployment by paying a non-liveable wage is a step backwards?”
Pay radiologists the minimum wage and Bob would be singing a remarkably different tune. But that will never happen, of course, not with the AMA around, so our $500K/Year radiologist will continue to post snide remarks about how those on the lowest end of the ladder make too goddamned much money.
Good luck, Angie!

Would citizens put out of work by a Democrat-passed statewide minimum wage increase be part of that volunteer-driven ground game to elect a Democrat to federal office, I wonder.

re 8 — Why wonder about a bullshit question that presupposes an effect that will not happen?
