by Darryl — Tuesday, 11/4/25, 3:27 pm

DLBottleToday is Election Day in Washington, so get that ballot in! Best to drop it off before 8pm in a drop box near you or swing by a post office and hand it to a clerk.

And then swing by the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally for a drink over some lively discussion.

We meet tonight and every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. You’ll find us out on the back patio. We start at 8:00pm.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

@3 The last MD-11 was built in 2000, so the plane was at least 25 years old. Huge fireball because it hit a petroleum recycling plant. The crew, of course, are dead; but there likely are ground casualties, too.

Democrats have flipped two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission in special elections seen as bellwethers ahead of next year’s midterm elections. … While the elections are for relatively low-profile roles, the elections were viewed as key as they were taking place in a battleground state.

    Voters everywhere are rejecting fascism.

All three justices faced an up-or-down vote on whether they should remain on the bench.

None of the judges faced opponents. This was no “rejection of fascism”. It was a vote to maintain the status quo. The same electorate chose Donald Trump over Boxcheck Momala, and chose John Fetterman, who currently is siding with the GOP over the Schumer Shutdown.

A handful of incidents at polling places have been seized on by Trump-aligned influencers, politicians and prominent conspiracy theorists to baselessly claim that the 2025 elections are rife with fraud orchestrated by Democrats.

Early this morning, at least seven New Jersey counties closed temporarily after receiving emails that authorities later described as “hoax” bomb threats. Polling sites reopened after law enforcement officials secured the area and a juvenile allegedly connected to at least one of the threats was arrested.

But on the far right, the threats were framed as something grander. “Always remember, Democrats can’t win unless they cheat,” posted Phillip Buchanan, the popular internet troll known as Catturd, to his nearly 4 million followers on X.

Weak clowns @ 5 cheer Democrat wins in Public Service Commission races in the hope that low-information liberals won’t realize that the Democrats are about to cave to the GOP on the Obamacare subsidies:

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday signaled he is willing to walk back his pre-shutdown demand for an “ironclad” deal on Affordable Care Act subsidies in exchange for funding the government. …

    • Jeffries said at a press conference in September, ahead of the shutdown, that “any agreement related to protecting the health care of the American people has to be ironclad and in legislation.”

    • The Democratic leader said at that time that there was “no trust” between House Democrats and Republicans, and that, as a result, he couldn’t rely on the mere promise of a vote or negotiations.

    • But any Senate deal is likely to only involve the promise of a vote on extending ACA subsidies — which may or may not even pass.

One thing is for sure about these election results.

Many truisms adopted by pundits and media elites to explain last year’s election results have died last night. The electorate remains highly polarized. No lasting realignment took place in 2024. Republicans under Fat Hitler have not built a robust multiracial, multi-generational coalition. Young white men have not become committed Republican voters.

It’s an off year. So these turnout numbers and composition are not highly predictive of future elections. But they do demonstrate that the tidal change claimed to have produced last year’s results is not real or could not be sustained.

People have begun roasting pets in the park over open fires. The deserted streets are silent but for the occasional sounds of sobbing infants.

HA Commenting Policy

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
