    Since transition away from Diesel will take decades(look at Steam, first experimental Diesels in the 20s, production in the 30s, last Steam gone from the mainline by 1960), will see many startups trying to mitigate diesel impacts.     Besides current issues and perception of safety on METRO, Councilmember Dembowski’s idea of going fareless, should be a non-starter. Does he want to reduce service 15-30% buy going fareless? The systems in the state that have done this either asked voters for more revenue, or the farebox was bringing in less than what Metro gets. Also, Metro is out of tools to make up that big of a revenue gap. Intercity Transit’s sales tax hike that exceeds the,9% limit for local agencies. Only so much a TBD can do, and those are usually time limited. While a Public Transportation Benefit Area Authority can get a special dispensation from the legislature through a bill that gives a PTBAA that has a certain population threshold an extra .3%, any action from the Legislature for Metro would be playing favorites, plus Metro isn’t a PTBAA, it’s a Metropolitan County Transit Authority, and the only one in the state.

    I am more on the side of the side of the interim King County Executive’s idea, keep charging, but go cashless. Because even in Seattle there are a lot of inter-agency transfers, ORCA use is getting more and more common, and can even tap on with your phone now. Going cashless, will not have to maintain fareboxes.

  28. I have seen many advocates post-pandemic suggest commuter rail operators ditch the 9-5 office demo and switch to all day regional rail operations, preferably two-way. The ALDS and ALCS schedules may prove SOUNDER should do that, especially on the S Line, which is older and has more ridership. Two-way, all-day would not have the problem of having to cancel a regular weekday trip to allow for an inbound afternoon run. Also, would avoid it being day to day, and at BNSF’s mercy.

    Other issues is the Hours of Service. Wouldn’t be surprised if the crews work a split shift. On the S Line normal afternoons, the first train leaves King Street Station upon reaching Tacoma the Engineet switches from the Locomotive to the Cab Coach, takes the train back to Seattle, then switches back to the locomotive, and takes the train to Lakewood. That’s about 4 hours total. It wouldn’t be a good look if the game day train needed a dog catch crew pulled off the extra board.

    One plot that is recycled is the ex-wife turning out to be a skilled surgeon who is the best in her field and the only one in the area. The ex-husband in one version, the nmistress turned trophy wife in the other, when seeing the ex near their son, get all violent thinking she’s up to no good, and teach her a lesson by breaking her hand. Turned out the mistress’s son needed the doctor’s skills for the surgery, and had agreed to do it, Hippocratic Oath, and in one version said the kid was innocent. Needless to say, with a broken hand, she doesn’t operate, and the kids condition got worse.

    I was thinking, he could die either way, who’s criminally liable in these scenarios (script has the ex-husband and family suffer, before any authorities get involved). If the Surgeon operated knowing they could not do the surgery properly, is she criminally liable for the death? Because she was unable to operate, he died, besides the assault and battery for beating up the doctor, is Manslaughter a stretch for the ex or the mistress for the actions arising from breaking the surgeons hand?

    A felony version of the charge was rejected three times by grand juries, before U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Piro’s office moved to bring this lesser, misdemeanor charge. During grand jury testimony, Liang claimed that Reid was the one who made first contact. U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan said Wednesday that video evidence showed that wasn’t true.

    He was not brought as a witness during the trial – something Abe questioned in closing.

    Bates was the sole witness called by prosecutors and spent more than five hours on the stand across two days. Much of the questioning centered on her text messages following the incident, where she downplayed it and disparaged Reid as a “libtard.” She didn’t turn over additional text message evidence until early Wednesday morning, and in the middle of cross examination, Abe discovered one message was missing.

A few hours ago, following less than two hours of deliberations, a federal jury in DC found Sidney Reid not guilty on all misdemeanor charges of assault after an FBI agent essentially committed perjury in open court during the trial. Jeanine Pirro’s office failed three times to obtain a felony indictment, finally settling for the misdeameanor charge. The FBI agent accusing Reid withheld evidence and was caught doing so while on the stand in front of the jury. The Assistant USA prosecuting the case at trial was repeatedly admonished and threatened by Judge Sookoonan for “playing games in my courtroom”. And following the acquittal Ms. Reid had this to say:

    “This verdict shows that this administration and its peons are not able to invoke fear in all citizens. I am just one woman, one human, one citizen of DC disgusted by this reality that we are forced to live in. I feel sorry for the prosecutors really, who must be burdened by Trump’s irrational and unfounded hatred for his fellow man. Knowing that I can stand in front of 12 of my fellow citizens and be found not guilty for standing up for basic human rights makes me feel like, despite the scary times we live in, we have hope for the future.”

    Among other things, GE’s shares were recommended based on:

    • its performance in a single day

    I think the changes will be good for the stock long-term. Other investors apparently agree, because the stock rose $1.73 today from its opening price of $22.10 to close at $23.83

    • its payment of a dividend that everybody but, apparently, one person knew was going to get slashed to pieces

    If you buy the stock today, you’re getting a yield on cost over 4%, and if they cut the dividend by a third, you’ll still get a dividend yield at about the S&P 500 average.

    (A couple of months later GE cut its share dividend by 95%.)

    • its appeal over a 2-3 year investment time frame

    Meanwhile, the shares tanked and remained in the shitter for years longer than this.

    Moreover, GE shares were recommended over anything that doesn’t pay a dividend. Like, say, Berkshire Hathaway

    And speaking of Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett dumped his entire GE stake more than two months before they were recommended on this blog by my investment strategy’s namesake.

    As October 20 approaches each year I can’t help but smile.
