    Reverse splits can have the opposite impact on investor sentiment. In the case of GE, however, the pain has already been felt. Shares were once about $60 each. The stock has lost investors about 14% a year on average for the past five years. Over the past 10, shares have a negative return as well. The S&P 500, for comparison, has earned investors about 14% and 17% a year on average over the past five and 10 years, respectively.

    GE believes it is signaling something to investors, though.

    GE has to be the worst recommendation Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit has ever made. Publicly, anyway.

    The worst-kept secret in Washington is that those two moderate senators aren’t alone in opposing nuking the 60-vote threshold.

    Several other Democrats have indicated in interviews that they are reluctant to kill the filibuster or that they prefer to make “reforms” — Washington-speak for maintaining a supermajority to pass bills, even if changed a bit from the current filibuster rules.

    It’s a harsh reality for progressives — both inside the Senate and outside — who had hoped their party might be provoked into nuking the filibuster and approving legislation with a simple majority.

    Hassan barely won in 2016, and 2022 is going to be a far different political climate.

And even a stupid fucking hillbilly like Joe Manchin can see this train coming at him… for the third time in a row.

I listened carefully and didn’t once hear him telling them to throw money behind Ron Johnson or Charlie Dent.

    There’s no trail out of this holler for ol’ Joe that goes through Moscow Mitch. Joe can’t change parties. And Mitch can’t move to the middle to allow popular vital legislation to pass. To find his way out he’s looking to go around. And he’s got five or six Senate Republicans, a mega-donor PAC, and President Biden helping him.

    No wonder Tara is agitated.

    Not only is it just as reasonable to conclude that political positioning around “reluctance” and holding out for “reform” is posturing, it’s absolutely required. While solid majorities of voters want the legislation passed, nearly as solid majorities prefer that it be done within the existing framework of Senate rules. So do I, actually.

    But I also want zero-calorie peanut butter and chocolate ice cream and for my neighbor to stop firing up his backpack blower at 7am on the weekends.

    “When” the 60-vote-minority rule is changed it will be because the majority of American voters have had enough of Republican bait-and-switch obstruction of popular vital legislation we all support. With “reluctance” we will support changing the rules. And Senate Democrats who are saying that right now are hardly signaling their opposition. After all, until last week so did ol’ Hillbilly Joe.

    There was a poll taken by the AJC. In the poll a sizable majority wanted the minimum wage increase.

    When told that a median estimate of job losses was 500,000 and that up to a million people might lose their jobs because of the wage increase, according to the CBO, support cratered to below 50%.

    Flipping Johnson’s seat is of course not enough. Not nearly enough. There’s just way too much ground to make up. But it’s part of the solution for sure. Wisconsin has to be ground zero. Followed by Pennsylvania. And the way to get it done is to register voters.     Looking at the three Democrats in the state’s congressional delegation who are up for re-election next year, Hassan’s approval rating is underwater in the new poll, at 43%-49%. Pappas stands at 42% approval and 39% disapproval while Second Congressional District five-term Rep. Annie Kuster registers at 43%-41% in the poll.

    Sununu, who’s coronavirus performance gave him a polling boost, continues to enjoy strong approval among New Hampshire voters, at 68%-30%.

    They lose ’cause more people vote for the other guy. Heckling not required.

    And yet all fifty Senate Republicans, including those who worked with Manchin to develop the amendments, are now committed to using the 60-vote-minority rule to block the very same amendments and kill any debate on the bill.

    Republicans are meanwhile preparing to do the very same thing to him on a proposed infrastructure bill, that Manchin has said he would prefer to see passed in regular order rather than via reconciliation.
