Reminds me of a George Will column from the Nixon days that went like this: Hitler’s theory of the “big lie” was that if you tell a real whopper everyone will believe it, because no one believes anyone would lie like that. Nixon, on the other hand, told lies so petty and demeaning you wondered why he stooped to it.
