Monday Morning Open Thread

During the campaign, a lot of City Council candidates ran on cliches about taking a hard look at the budget to see what could be cut. They were pretty light on specifics, except maybe exempting police from cuts. But now that they are in power, and trying to make cuts, they are finding that no matter how hard the look, the only programs they come up with are good.

They don’t have a mandate for the actual, specific cuts; just vague promises to cut the bad bits or the waste. Of course, they wouldn’t have a mandate if they lost either.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

“Lock him up!”

Today, for the first time in history, a former President has been criminally convicted. A short time ago, the jury in a NY State court found The Former Guy guilty on all 34 felony counts.
There is something important to notice here. This isn’t really a case about extramarital sex, or buying Pecker, or having people sign NDAs. Rather, its about the team that routinely cries “rigged election!” being found criminally guilty of falsifying business records in order to rig a presidential election.

Anything and everything they accuse Democrats of doing is because they have already tried doing it. It is always projection with these assholes!

With a little luck, there will be more guilty verdicts for election-rigging charges in D.C. Federal Court and Fulton County Court. The icing on the cake may be indictments and charges in another jurisdiction or two—you know, like AZ, WI, and MI.

One of the strongest criminal cases against Трамп is the federal documents case in Florida. So far, Judge Aileen Cannon has managed to slow-walk that case, but if Трамп loses the 2024 election, that case should result in a conviction with a serious sentence.

For now, we will have to be satisfied with a Felon Von Shitzenpantz guilty of business record fraud, and guilty of civil crimes that have racked up well over half a billion dollars for business fraud, defamation, and for sexual abuse.

Republicans must feel such a deep sense of pride in their candidate!

Wednesday Open Thread

Man, the Seattle City Council really thought that they could just roll back gig worker protection and there wouldn’t be any opposition. Conservative as they are, none of the new slate ran on it. They just saw some bullshit on KOMO or whatever.

So whoopsadoodle, there was pushback and now they’re delaying the vote. The bill is bad and unpopular and in a decent society, that would be enough to make sure it stays defeated. But sadly we are going to have to keep vigilant. If you live in Seattle and want to let your City Council member know you oppose this, you can let them know here. I recommend calling, or send a request via US mail, but an email will work.

I have mentioned it over at Bluesky, but in case you aren’t one of the couple dozen people inexplicably following me there: Let The Kids Dance! KUOW’s podcast about the teen dance ordinance is really great. I’m sure it’s the nostalgia, but man it worked on me. Now that it’s done and therefore bingeable, go take it for a whirl. Especially if you grew up in or around Seattle in the 80’s and 90’s.

The proposal to make part of Denny Blane no longer a nude beach is probably misguided. But as I am nothing if not helpful, let me propose a couple of compromises. First make the whole place a Porkey Pig beach. Everyone will be required to wear a shirt and go bottomless.

If that doesn’t satisfy you, let me suggest the left half clothed beach. I believe wit the right (or left!) tailoring and maybe some velcro, we can have a beach where adults see half as many nipples. Will ut be comfortable? No. Will anyone be happy? Also no. The perfect compromise.
