Presidential primary ballots have dropped in Washington state. Today is a good day to fill it out, drop it off, and then swing by the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally for some post-voting celebrations.
We meet tonight and every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. You’ll find us in the small room at the back of the tavern. We start at 8:00pm.
Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

If I had had the opportunity I would have asked Aaron Bushnell why by killing himself he would be no longer complicit in a genocide that does not exist.
Vicious Troll spews:
What if Aaron Bushnell had used a sawed-off shotgun and blown his head off? Or an AR-15, with one well-placed shot?
“We can’t reduce what’s going in Gaza to some electoral-political strategy,” West told CNN’s Dana Bash. “We’ve seen the example of our dear brother, Aaron Bushnell. When he set himself on fire, killed himself, what was he saying? These are moral issues and moral causes. These are not just brands and strategies and tactics.”
I’m just asking questions. After all, Cornel West is a Democrat candidate for the presidency.

Harvard University Floats $1.65 Billion Upcoming Debt Sale
I had been reliably informed that with a $50B endowment, Harvard had little reason to care about canceled donations and pissing off the not-insubstantial cohort of its alumni who think plagiarism is wrong and that harassing Jews is wrong.
Apparently with all of that endowment asset base squirreled away in highly illiquid investments, year-over-year inflows do make a difference. Go figure.
Bill Ackman did the math.

4,
So what conclusions from the record can the judge draw if he concludes that Terrence Bradley is a liar?
Keeping in mind that while Judge McAfee may be “under no obligation to believe Bradley’s current story”, he is also not free to cherry pick.
This is a witness called by the movant as part of the presentation required of them to prove in evidence their most recent filed claims that the Fulton County District Attorney is guilty of perjury and swearing false statements to the court. If the judge agrees with the profoundly stupid trust fund troll that Mr. Bradley’s prior inconsistent statement made in a text message is admissible (and I agree that under Georgia law it is) then what can the judge conclude from that?
The prior statement in a string of obviously casual, and gossipy text messages exchanged between the witness and an attorney for a criminal defendant under indictment by Fani Willis’s office is imprecise in nature. The recent sworn statements in court under cross examination are unequivocal. The law would advise the judge to grant very little credibility to any statements sworn or otherwise coming from such a witness.
This isn’t how any of this works. It isn’t how it has ever worked in Judge McAfee’s experience as a Superior Court judge.
Normally in criminal cases where the defense is struggling and pleading to get a prior inconsistent statement introduced in evidence it is to impeach credibility of a prosecution witness. A criminal conspirator or a jail house snitch is saying something terrible about the defendant in court. But previously they’ve said something very different in an interview or in a phone call. The defense wants the prior inconsistent statement introduced as impeachment. And they want the jury to see the witness confronted by the prior statement. In real life this never produces the dramatic moment at trial where the witness breaks down and spills. Instead the witness sticks to their trial testimony, even when it has been purchased with inducements from the government in the form of plea bargains, deferred prosecutions, sentence recs, and early release. But the jury is given reason to doubt the key witness and disregard their testimony.
In this case disregarding the testimony of Mr. Bradley suits the government.
Cool hand Luke.
Trump’s attorney has nothing. They’ve given the judge nothing but a headache and a crowded docket.

I’d like to see how it looks in the morning with 100% in, but so far it looks like Trump will finish up ten points shy of where he is most recently polling in Michigan.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@14 Almost 3% uncommitted, which combined with Haley’s vote and 2.9% for other candidates, amounts to 32% of the vote that Trump didn’t get (so far).
Flip-flopping weasel Haley made all of two campaign stops in Michigan over the last 2 days, and she’s getting 26.7% of the votes (so far, with 79% in).
Not a good look for the presumptive nominee. Haley, of course, won’t be the nominee, and probably wouldn’t be without Trump in the race, because she isn’t presidential timber (but neither is her twice-impeached, four-times-indicted rival).
Her role in the primaries is that of a weathervane, or a canary in a coal mine, and what the results in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Michigan all say is Trump won’t have the whole of the Republican Party, let alone any independents, at his back in November. Only the most insane chunk of it.

Republicans don’t want the spending bill to pass. Force more women to give birth, have more gun violence and keep food out the mouths of desperate women and infants.
The republicans want to crash the economy because they think it will get them votes.

Trump borrows money, too, even though he claimed to be worth $10 billion.
Apple Computer issues debt, despite a $162B cash hoard as of the last quarterly report, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit.
Apple borrows because it makes sense to borrow. It might not make sense to you, but Apple Computer isn’t scared to leave the house the way you are, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit.
If you can borrow at 3% and earn 6% on the borrowed capital, it makes sense to borrow.
A lot of Apple’s long-term debt was borrowed at the low 3% interest rate level. Apple still has use of that money and still pays interest at 3%, and will for 25 more years. Apple borrows less, now, because the cash pile is bigger and interest rates are higher. But it still rolls over some old debt into new debt at higher rates, and it does this because to Apple it makes sense.
Borrowing is not an indication of need, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit. Many billionaires borrow. If you possessed wealth you would understand this.

Little different from a margin loan, girlfriend. A margin loan lets an investor with a minimal amount of experience borrow against most (not all) assets in a non-retirement account.
In 2008 I learned the risk of borrowing on margin to purchase land. It was a painful lesson. Should have gone with a bank loan.
