A pundit is a pundit is a pundit

by Goldy — Sunday, 2/6/05, 2:43 pm

The funniest thing about political blogging is that people actually take us seriously. Especially us partisan flame-throwers. Accuse a sitting governor of being a thief and a fraud — or call somebody a prick from time to time — and people pay attention.

To show you how silly it all is, I’m going to turn from political punditry and exercise a bit of sports punditry. Anybody can do it, so why not me?

Goldy’s 5 Keys to the Superbowl

1. Special teams – It takes a really special team to win the Super Bowl.

2. Score in the “red zone” – Most teams just score in the end zone; if you can score in the red zone, you shorten the field by twenty yards.

3. Turnovers – A little known factor in New England’s victory over Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game was when Ben Roethlisberger severely burnt his throwing hand eating a hot apple turnover during the pre-game meal. Both Donovan McNabb and Tom Brady must be disciplined, and stick to cold cuts.

4. Control the clock – The team that controls the clock can pretty much end the game the second they’re ahead.

And finally, the “Key to the Superbowl” most overlooked by sports pundits:

5. Score more points than the other team – Need I say more?

And my bold, partisan prediction? Eagles 27, Patriots 17.

    GOLDY–
You are a beauty! You forgot the “deer in the headlights” factor which makes the final score:
    Pats 27
    Eagles 17

A senese of humor, irony and bachanded ridicule all in one post? Any chance you could apply this delightful skill to your regular posts?

It would save me having to wipe the rabid foam flecks off my screen.

I have to confess, I really don’t care about the SuperBowl.

    But…

My high school athlete (wrestling) is now LEAGUE CHAMPION in his weight class. Now, on to regionals!

    As usual—-YOU ARE A LOSER!!!!!!!!!

    And Goldy–
    I told you in a prior post….
YOU DON’T PISS OFF RODNEY HARRISON!!!!!
It was a decent game…I think the Eagle have a bit better athletes but the Pats experience in winning big games was the difference. Good game though. If the Eagles can keep that team together for one more year, they can probably win it…
Need to work on that running game though.
    Too much pressure on McNabb.
Oh and didn’t I tell you..
YOU DON’T PISS OFF RODNEY HARRISON!!!!
RODNEY IS A REAL MAN BACK THERE…NO DOUBT.
AND FREDDIE MITCHELL IS A STUPID PUNK.

“Control the clock” indeed – I have never seen a team so badly manage its time as the Eagles did in the last 5 minutes of the game… what were they thinking??? They didn’t hurry; they didn’t attempt to stop the clock at all. And in the end, it burned them.

    Frank-
The Eagles are a lot like Goldy…sit around in the huddle blabbing about what to do…plan, plan, plan while the clock is running out. The Pats giving up that over the top TD pass was unbelievable bad. They almost bailed out the Eagles.
Pressure does different things to different people.
The Eagles ought to be able to do it next season…if they get a better running game.
