Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 5/13/26, 8:45 am

Patty Murray has done a lot of good lately. Probably the best in decades. Maybe it’s easier to be in opposition to a garbage human than the drudgery of governing. But, a lot of Senators have not been up to the task. Cantwell is significantly worse. The rest of Senate leadership has been worse.

And yet.

It’s probably best if this is her last term. She won election in 1992. And there has been there ever since. She’s now of the longest serving members.

It would probably be a good primary election to replace her. A lot of people would like a shot at it. I think it would be good to get some new blood.

The point is it’s fine to retire in your 70’s. Even if you’re still doing good work. Leave them wanting more. But only if you leave.

This POS was placed on leave for violently abusing a disabled student last December, yet her POS union members still elected her to represent them:

Educator, suspended for allegedly abusing autistic student, elected Seattle teachers’ union president

Idowu-Holiday was accused of repeatedly abusing a disabled boy over the last school year by the student’s family, including one instance that was witnessed by his therapist.

The child, who has autism, a speech delay and is partially nonverbal, came home with bruises the size of adult fingertips on his arms in October, then again in December, according to a complaint obtained by the Seattle Times.
    …
Meanwhile, the new union president’s alleged victim is still suffering, according to his parents.

Even with Idowu-Holiday out of the classroom, the child has lasting trauma that has caused frequent emotional distress and even resistance to schooling, the victim’s father, Tyson Marsh, told the outlet.

“Any movement toward him is received as if you were going to attack him,” Marsh said.

CNN’s Harry Enten Serves ‘Big Time Reality Check for Democrats’ – Even Amid Trump’s Falling Poll Numbers

You would have thought that the Democrats’ lead would expand on the generic congressional ballot. It didn’t happen,” Enten reported.

From aggregate polling, Enten pointed out that Democrats have gone from the choice to control Congress from plus-six points in March of last year to plus-three points now. He argued Democrats should be far higher in popularity amid controversial moves by Trump, like striking Iran.

“It is within the margin of error. So, despite all of the talk about Donald Trump’s unpopularity, the fact is, Republicans very much remain in the game when it comes to the congressional midterms,” Enten told Berman.

Elsewhere I read this week that with the new districts in states that have made changes, there has to be D plus 4 polling for Democrats to retake the House in November. Instead the GOP is polling within the MOE.

As long as we’re going to be quoting Enten, should we not quote everything he has to say?

NEW YORK — Anti-Zionist demonstrators marched through a Jewish area of Brooklyn on Monday, chanting for an intifada and waving a Hezbollah flag, in the latest in a series of caustic protests in Jewish parts of New York City.
    …

Grocery prices jumped more in April than they did in nearly four years

Stated differently, there was a larger one-month increase in grocery prices under Joe Biden than there was under Donald Trump.

Fresh vegetables are over 44% more expensive today than they were three months ago, on an annualized basis. (NBC)

Well, gee. Pointing out a one-month increase in the price of tomatoes and extrapolating that out over 12 months by “annualizing” makes for a scary number, and ignores what the USDA reported fewer than three weeks ago:

Retail fresh vegetable prices increased by 0.9 percent from February 2026 to March 2026 and were 7.5 percent higher in March 2026 than in March 2025. Prices for fresh vegetables are predicted to increase 4.8 percent in 2026, with a prediction interval of 0.3 to 9.5 percent.

    https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-price-outlook/summary-findings

So if you pick one big month to embellish you can avoid picking an entire preceding year of data.

Roads, of course, don’t have to cost anything. The pioneers didn’t pay road taxes. You can still see their wagon ruts on the prairie. Things like asphalt surfaces, bridges at river crossings, being able to travel faster than 1½ mph, etc., are luxuries for those who can afford them.

    @ 23,

There are ~66,280 people infected with SARS-CoVs each year due to human-to-bat contact.

In the past 25 years, there have been at least 12 instances of zoonotic transfer of viruses into humans, including three coronaviruses, which resulted in epidemics or pandemics.

There is currently no verified scientific evidence to support the lab leak hypothesis.

Based on the scientific evidence and investigations described in a declassified report, the majority of the US Intelligence community concur with the zoonotic origin of SARS-CoV-2 being more likely.
    https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/Report-on-Potential-Links-Between-the-Wuhan-Institute-of-Virology-and-the-Origins-of-COVID-19-20230623.pdf

These reports do not identify high confidence evidence for a research-related incident, find no evidence that WIV possessed SARS-CoV-2 or a closely related virus before the end of December 2019, and conclude that it is unlikely that SARS-CoV-2 was engineered.

Validating the lab leak hypothesis requires intelligence evidence that the WIV possessed or carried out work on a SARS-CoV-2 precursor virus prior to the pandemic. Neither the scientific community nor multiple western intelligence agencies have found such evidence.

Rhode Island out the brakes on.

DOJ has proven unworthy of this trust at every point in this case.

It has misrepresented and withheld information to both this Court and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas (the “Texas court”). It did so in an
obvious effort to shield it’s recent investigative tactics previously rejected by every
other court to review them—from this Court’s review, in favor of a distant forum that
DOJ deems friendly to its political positions.

The order goes on to say The judge in Texas is fully aware the DOJ is lying to him about facts in the case and while they do not have the power to overturn his particular order, they do have the power to quash the subpoena upon which the order is based, and therefore it is quashed. The court further enjoined the DOJ from attempting to receive any records from Rhode Island regarding patients of Rhode Island health.

Representative Frederica Wilson is running for reelection.

Some of the account’s posts seem designed to trick people into thinking that Wilson is still out and about. In one bizarre post circulated earlier this week and flagged on X by Capitol Hill correspondent Jamie Dupree, Wilson’s team reused photographs of her from an October event, in an attempt to suggest that the lawmaker was still mingling with her constituents.

Wilson is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the House Committee on Education and Workforce. Both committees have held several hearings since April 17, though the 83-year-old doesn’t seem to appear in video footage of any of them.

So when a prominent Bluesky user who is widely regarded as “one of the least likable progressives in the Milky Way galaxy” complained that the app had failed to live up to its promise, a handful of people took notice.

The lying troll’s Insane Failing Cult Leader got his start as a TV reality show performer, back in those “partying” days when he was socializing with the child sex trafficker, raping kids, and doing lots of drugs.

His former producers have never stopped telling the truth about it for the last decade. They’ve never even been threatened with a lawsuit.

    https://youtu.be/RV9PJQUXsKM

    https://slate.com/culture/2024/05/donald-trump-news-2024-trial-verdict-apprentice.html

Why? When a bully files a meritless SLAPP suit targeting a single, small individual the process of discovery tends to be disadvantageous but in a single direction, against the bully. Trump doesn’t sue these guys because a) he knows they are telling the truth, and b) civil discovery would ruin him and do nothing to them.

But facing Disney is a different animal. That’s a meritless SLAPP suit targeting a peer. Disney has lots to lose if Trump’s lawyers can go prancing through their internal executive communications. It’s the media industry and they all play dirty. A small settlement is worth it to them.

So when you see Trump obviously and openly refusing to go after all these little, defenseless individuals to shut them up it’s because he can’t afford it and neither can they. Because they are telling the truth. And their only option would be to put on a defense and win.

Regardless, however, we have also increased Orders at these levels. The Companies represented were the CEOs of BAE Systems, Boeing, Honeywell Aerospace, L3Harris Missile Solutions, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon. Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC) – Total Backlog is at a current level of 95.68B, up from 91.45B last quarter

    Oh Gym, Gym, Gym.

You’re going to get crushed in November because none of you have either the sense or balls to say what everyone knows.

You went on CNN tonight and said gas prices rising is part of life and for the first time in your congressional career, the anchor didn’t roll over and show you the belly for a scratch.

COLLINS: But if someone was paying $2.98 a gallon before the war, and now they’re paying $4.53, saying ‘that’s life’ might not make them feel better

JIM JORDAN: Those are your words, not mine

COLLINS: You said that just now. I quoted you.

I think even the Fox Audience will notice when Donnie talks about how much money the oil companies are making and how insignificant THEY are to him.

I don’t want to say we’re making a fortune … because if I say it, they’re going to say, ‘He forgets about the little man with the $4 gasoline.

Hannity tried valiantly to jump in and save him but…

You might be old enough to know “only the little people pay taxes” most of Fox audience is definitely old enough.

You know, if the DJT47 administration limited press contact to pre-selected questions asked by pre-selected mouthpieces, this type of miscommunication would occur less frequency.

Is that what you want? A current administration just like the last one?

Or do you have some appreciation for a president willing to stand there and answer one spontaneous question after another, and occasionally making a mistake in the process?

In a sadly ironic parallel, the sovereignty over the power to wage war that the GOP Congress has ceded to the Executive branch is fun house mirrored by the sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz that the current occupant of the White House has ceded to Iran.

By dithering, stalling, and obfuscating the issue is mooted and the question is lost.
