At this point, it’s dusk, so I go back to my apartment hoping to see it on the way. No luck, so I canceled my debit card. The next day, I was able to get a replacement at BECU. I also went to Westlake Station and picked up a new ORCA Card.
I get home and I’m trying to figure out how to transfer my account from the old ORCA Card to the new one, when I get a buzz. I answered it, and the people found my wallet and came to the apartment to give it back.
I mean! Come on. Incredibly grateful that they would do that. I was just back from getting a new card, so I was in a nice button down shirt and a tie on a Saturday. Fancy guy to give his wallet back to.

Unfortunately, I think it’s a fundamental problem arising from one of the foundational ideas for the State of Israel. Establishment of a Jewish ethno-state within a region dominated by non-Jews. However that framing undergoes an other-than-rational distortion in a context informed by religion, mythology, and “faith”. And that distortion I think produces a fertile environment for paranoia that can give rise to expansionism.
The United States itself has long suffered from this kind of paranoia born out of our own unique mythology. And it has produced most of our violent expansionism too. Whether we were exterminating Native Americans, exterminating Mexicans, or exterminating Asian and Pacific Islanders, it was almost always in service to a mythology that produced a wildly distorted framing about our need to expand in order to “survive”. And much of that mythology was and is helped along by business interests who stand to gain from either the extermination, the expansion, or both.
