Friday!

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 4/17/26, 8:08 am

Good morning. No coat, just a sweater over a button to go for a walk. Spring is Springing, not to jinx it.

  • Maaaaan, we need a new King County Assessor.
  • Happy Black Earth Day coming up.
  • Hopefully the state will do a better job of distributing mifepristone going forward.
  • A fast ferry between Seattle and Tacoma would be rad way to commute. No shade to the train.
  • Turning off the camera directly pointed at the Planned Parenthood is a step in the right direction, but there’s plenty more to do.

NPR lede: Gasoline costs should start to fall soon, although a full recovery to pre-war prices is expected to take months. That’s assuming that peace holds and traffic flows resume through the Strait of Hormuz.

The national gasoline price average today is lower than Washington state’s gasoline price one year ago.

The good news is that both prices are coming down. So I guess for Democrats it will be back to arguing that chicks with dicks are women.

    Cherry picking something?

The corner gas station that I have been reporting on, which use to be $2.85 prior to the Excursion adventure was at $4.05 about a week ago. Yesterday I noticed that it did drop to $3.95.

But that same station about 6-9 months prior to the 2024 election was $2.69.

So, I don’t know what kind of bullshit you are trying to sell, but your little cheery picked news only got broadcast to about 20 people here on HA. I’ll be sure to tell everyone of your exciting news.

So didja hear about hardened drug trafficker 85 year old French Lady ICE locked up? She’s a heartwarming tale of having a young American sweetheart who reconnected decades later when they were both widowed.

Turns out the sons in law are the worst people in the world. And one of them is a retired Alabama cop.

Upon dad’s death it appears they took his cars, forwarded the mail and then called ICE in an attempt to freeze her out of any part of the estate.

But joke’s on them. Whether or not she lives in the US, if dad put her in the will, she gets it.

And while forwarding Dad’s mail on his deaths next of kin is legal…forwarding hers is a federal crime.

Kash Patel has alarmed colleagues with episodes of excessive drinking and unexplained absences.

    By Sarah Fitzpatrick

On Friday, April 10, as FBI Director Kash Patel was preparing to leave work for the weekend, he struggled to log into an internal computer system. He quickly became convinced that he had been locked out, and he panicked, frantically calling aides and allies to announce that he had been fired by the White House, according to nine people familiar with his outreach. Two of these people described his behavior as a “freak-out.”

AI overview of a thing anyone steeped in evangelical upbringing knows.

Using “Pharisee” as a slur is a common, often anti-Semitic, Christian-rooted insult that equates the term with hypocrites, legalists, or self-righteous, “holier-than-thou” individuals. While derived from the New Testament’s depiction of religious, judgmental opponents of Jesus, this stereotype ignores that Pharisees were key figures in creating rabbinic Judaism.

Supreme Court Justices Alito, Thomas not expected to retire this year: Sources

Alito intends to continue serving into at least 2027, sources said.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the subject of intensifying speculation about a potential retirement before the midterm elections, is not expected to leave the bench this year, sources close to the justice have told ABC News. Alito, 76, has been hiring clerks for next term and intends to continue serving into at least 2027, the sources who have spoken to Alito told ABC. Fox News first reported the justice’s intentions. …

The court’s most senior member — 77-year-old conservative Justice Clarence Thomas — is also expected to remain on the bench, sources have told ABC. Thomas continues to love the work, sources close to him have said, and in the next few years will eclipse the record for longest-serving justice in American history.

Given the Atlantic’s reference to NINE sources in the opening graph good luck getting past that ‘knowing’ part of the statutes on journalism.
