Drop off your ballot by Tuesday the 4th. Tomorrow as this is posted. People on social media are saying that dropboxes are better than the Post Office. These municipal elections determine what happens in cities and counties all over the state. If you’re in Seattle, I hope you vote for the left slate.

You morons!
You idiots!
You imbeciles!
Kamala Harris?
Really?

@ 1 Democrats DEId on the cross for their sins last year.
Democrats thought that skills, ability and content of ones character mattered more the color of their skin or their gender. We learned we were wrong.
3
“Democrats thought that skills, ability and content of ones character mattered more the color of their skin or their gender”
since when???
and IF that were the case, then how the fuck do you explain Kamala Harris as VP? The color of her skin and her gender were EXACTLY why she was picked as Biden’s running mate.
Qualifications? LOL!
Felon with mulitiple convictions including rape and lifelong associations with a violent child trafficker pedophile is a “qualification”.
If you are MAGAt.
Congrats on the big win.
Adding to the list of REALLY WELL REPORTED news stories Mike Johnson is unaware of,
Really working hard on your vacation media blackout, eh Mike?
Why does Barack refuse to endorse Zohran Mamdani?
@ 5
Felon with mulitiple convictions including rape …
You left out premeditated mass murder. If you are going to lie you might as well go all the way.

Most of Fat Hitler’s are not even signed at all.
“Accuracy”
Say, remember that time Joe Biden sat for a 73 minute interview with CBS News?
[This does not count the amount of time necessary to record enough of Biden’s ramblings to splice into a 34 second preview that made him seem coherent.]
Despite Nancy Pelosi’s retirement next year, she will continue on inspiring seething resentment and a deep sense of inadequacy living rent free inside the head of the Actual Nazi Fucktard and many other emotionally crippled MAGAts for many years to come. There she will vye for occupancy with such luminaries as Vince Foster, George Soros, and Tara Reade.
In 2027, when Governor Newsome renames SFO “Nancy Pelosi International Airport” as his last official act, the poor pitiful bigot will suffer a ten point rise in his blood pressure each time he flies through it.
Sure, bigot.

@1,
Yeah, it really concerns me that the Democrats have shifted so far towards the left, now that the Republicans have closed down the elected Congress, shut down all non-military functions of the federal government, adopted full-on fascism and are talking about canceling elections and imposing martial law.
You really do make a great point with this post.
Democrats learned that a white penis is the only thing that matters to too many racist bigots.
It didn’t matter how corrupt the felon attached to the white penis is

@1 Given only two choices, which is better, Kamala Harris or a fascist dictator who sends thugs into communities to kidnap and beat up U.S. citizens with brown skin, and is now contemplating starting two wars (three if you count sending U.S. troops into Mexico)? Seems to me you’re the idiot here.
@4 Have you ever thought of comparing Harris’s public experience (various state boards and commissions, San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general, U.S. senator, vice president) with Trump’s (none)? Arguing “qualifications” isn’t the way to go, pardner. In your shoes, I wouldn’t resort to a character argument, either.
The reality is that America is still a racist county, and Harris lost because this country isn’t ready for a black woman president. By a small and unimpressive margin, America’s voters preferred a bloated white guy and failed businessman with a long history of lying, fraud, bankruptcies, adultery, and — we’re learning — pedophilia. That really says something about Trump voters, doesn’t it?
The poster @1 was onto something when he called the voters idiots, morons, and imbeciles. Just the wrong set of voters, that’s all.
@16 said it more concisely than I did @21, but it’s the same idea.
They demonstrate a clear preference for pedophiles, rapists, and felons over non-whites and women.

and none of your post is relevant to what I wrote. Read it again.
VP’s are rarely picked for their skillset – they are picked because they check certain boxes that the presidential candidate thinks will help him/her win. That is a fact that is not disputable.
Well, that settles it. Cuomo’s gonna win in a landslide.
Mom? Why is grandpa angrily ranting again?
Well they cracked and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) has finally leaked the Republican Health care they’ve been working on for these 15 years.
So the GrandOldPedophiles are still at the “Everyone have coffee and a snack? Take your seats please we’ll begin in a moment” stage of creating a healthcare plan”

Jury selection began today in the misdemeanor case because Judge Jeanine Pinot Grigio needs to be tough and try to get a guy who lobbed a sandwich convicted.
This is obviously untrue, and especially silly in this case.
Pundits and Republicans began expressing concern about Biden’s age in 2014 ahead of the 2016 election season. By the time he was finally recruited to run in late 2019 ahead of the 2020 season it was a major issue. And the 2020 Democratic primary debate was as much about qualifying his running mate as it was about choosing Biden as the nominee.
The Actual Nazi Fucktard needs to stop employing sock puppets to hide his dumbest takes behind. And of course, by any objective standard Harris was and is eminently more qualified for office, either by character, temperament, or demonstrated ability than the Republican nominee.
But that doesn’t matter to any Republican voter. While Democrats watched a substantive primary debate series that focused on issues and experience, Republicans held a Mexican wrestling cage match of insults and smears that spent more time debating bleach injections than relevant experience. Because that’s what matters to Republican voters.
Other than race and gender.
Trumpers can’t do anything right, least of all legal procedure.

Elmo IRL of course supports Cuomo.
@24 What you’re saying is her qualifications had nothing to do with her selection. That’s ridiculous on its face. Moreover, since you weren’t privy to the vice presidential selection discussions, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yes, I get that you think choosing vice presidents is a box-checking exercise. Where you went wrong is assuming Democrats do it the same way Republicans do it.
If the economy goes into recession, that will vindicate Trump’s claim the Federal Reserve should have cut interest rates sooner and more, but somehow I don’t think a recession would improve his polling.
End of an era in San Francisco as MUNI is retiring the Italian Junk, I mean AnsaldoBreda LRVs that replaced the American Junk, I mean Boeing LRVs, that replaced probably the best American Streetcar design, the PCC on the J, K, L, M, and N lines. In fairness, Boeing and later AnsaldoBreda were asked to meet some unique specifications. High Floor level boarding in the Market Street Subway, but curb-level entry on the surface at traditional streetcar stops. Plus drivers collecting fares pay as you enter(with a second driver on a two car train at first).
The Bredas were replaced with Siemens S200SF/LRV-4s. Also, Bredas been bought by a Japanese company, and looks like they have improved their quality.

Majority of Americans blame Trump for ‘poor’ economy in new poll, showing dip in approval
President Donald Trump’s approval rating dropped to one the lowest levels seen during his second term in a new poll from CNN/SSRS. In the survey released Nov. 3, the president had a 37% approval rating. It’s the lowest rating of his second term seen in CNN polling and stands just one point higher than the 36% approval rating Trump had at this point in his first presidential term.
More than 7 in 10 respondents rated current economic conditions as either “poor” or “very poor”
>> Whether it was a realistic expectation or not, he promised to fix the economy and bring down prices on day 1.
>> A large number of voters were fine with cruelty to minorities and immigrants and the LGBTQ and independent women but now that it’s hurting them, they are turning on Republicans.

Reporter: SNAP is so, so stimulative to our economy. There are lots of rural stores where 60% of their sales are SNAP sales. So that rural store might have to shutter its doors. This is our collective struggle. All of us do better when people experiencing hunger do better.

One interesting debate about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor losing all titles and honors, is whether the medals he actually earned in the Royal Navy, specifically the South Atlantic Campaign Medal, should also be revoked. Apparently, it falls under the same regulations as revocation of a Victoria Cross, can’t be revoked for later conduct. Originally the VC could, under the original Royal Warrant’s clause of bringing the VC into ill repute(was supposed to be a chivalry order for recognizing bravery among common soldiers and and officers), but George V amended it to prohibit revocation or forfeiture.
Andrew’s rank of Vice Admiral was honorary, and has been revoked by the MoD. Most medals worn by Charles III are honorary, but he has a few earned from earlier tours in all three services. Interestingly, when Charles was made Colonel in Chief(honorary) of the Parachute Regiment, he went through the training course and earned his wings and badge.

If Mamdani wins, think of what that means. A muslim as Mayor of NYC nearly a quarter century after 9/11.
What islamophobes miss – the muslims who want to fly planes into towers hate socialism.
Most New Yorkers (the bottom 80 percent) just want a more affordable New York. Right now and for as long as anyone can remember, New York is a city that caters to the rich. Wannabe ultra-rich like orange pants shitter and truly ultra-rich like the late David Koch.
I hope Mayor Mamdani finds a way to deliver groceries in food deserts, freely available transportation to jobs serving the rich and even “radical” services like affordable child care.
The Murdoch Post claims almost 10 percent of islamophobic and always wrong wing New Yorkers want to leave New York (aka Staten Island) if Mamdani wins. Fine. That alone will make rents more affordable. Watch out for private equity sharks, Zohran Mamdani. That scum needs to be put in their place.
there is no way in hell that a Mamdani victory changes NYC significantly. The Trump Admin has done and will do more damage to this Country and NYC.
@63 10 percent (the bigot crowd) of NYC leaving NYC is a significant change. Of course, that could just be a Murdoch Post fantasy.
Btw, here’s a recent piece on Eric Adams:

He took money from Turkey for special favors. The piece claims it was grubby small time. Bob Menendez is going away for taking Egyptian money, arguably bigger time, but Eric Adams was let off the hook for bending the knee to orange pants shitter.
Hasn’t worked out for orange man bad.
It’s fitting that on the day of Dick Cheney’s death, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gettleman is hearing testimony in the Northern District of Illinois in which DHS detainees and other witnesses are describing a mass torture facility similar to the ones Cheney ordered in Abu Ghraib. Witnesses describe guards kicking and beating detainees, detainees being deprived of any medical attention even as they lapsed into strokes and heart failure, detainees kept awake all night by guards in a sleep deprivation program, detainees forced to sleep on floors wetted with human waste and other fluids, and detainees deprived of food, clothing and heat. All are practices the U.S. developed and perfected in the Republican Global War on Terror in places like Abu Ghraib.
There are no good Republicans.
There never have been.
In the daily NY Times e-mail there’s a little something about…
guuuunnnssssss…
Safety measures abound at ranges. Shooters wear eye and ear protection. They generally stand in a booth, separated from others by bulletproof walls.
But they still face an overlooked hazard: the concussive blast waves set off by the firing of weapons indoors, which can damage the brain.
The data showed that smaller-caliber guns can pose a danger pretty quickly, and that large-caliber civilian rifles delivered a blast wave that exceeds what the military says is safe for the brain. Indoor ranges, designed to make shooting safe, can worsen blast exposure, they discovered.
A recently retired Army blast safety researcher told Dave that repeated blast exposures, however small, may cause damage. “Stretch a rubber band a hundred times and it bounces back, but there are microtears forming,” he said. “The 101st time, it breaks.”
Suspicions confirmed.. Gun nuts are brain damaged. The result is more guns than people in this country. I’ll bet the gun industry has known this forever like cigarette manufacturers have known about nicotine addiction.
Liberals should arm anyway. Just be safeR and practice at an outdoor range.

The U.S. housing market is ‘starved’ for affordability:
Boomers edge millennials and Gen Z out of homeownership in record numbers | Fortune
Wages haven’t kept up with home prices. Rents and house prices have been rising faster than incomes across most regions of the U.S.
As of February, Americans need to make about $141,000 to afford a median-priced home, but the average salary for a person in the U.S. is about half of that.
This is why more and more voters are interested in other schemes than unregulated capitalism.
@62 Orange pants shitter wasn’t rich, he only talked rich and lived rich, putting up a front with loans he couldn’t repay and daddy bailouts. Now, though, he may be getting sorta rich from corruption.
@72 Boomers edge millennials and Gen Z out of homeownership in record numbers
Uh, wait, how does that work? Because we won’t give up the homes they were born in, that we sweated and worked and paid off mortgages for, because we’re still alive and need somewhere to live?
Regulating capitalism might well have prevented the subprime fraud that led to the housing crash which created the present housing shortage that’s driven up home prices and rents.
But as long as we have Republicans pressing for deregulation, and stupid voters electing them, these clusterfucks will keep occurring.
@72 Private equity hasn’t helped matters. I challenge shit eating trolls to demonstrate what high rolling private equity does to make life more affordable for ordinary Americans.
People are leaving NYC like Texas is leaving the United States. Please. And if they do, it will be welcome.

@62 Been thinking a bit about why a good portion of fanatically devout muslims hate socialism. Simple. Socialism to them means humanity turning away from God – akin to making heaven on earth. To them it’s idolatry.
But they’re not alone. A lot of religious Jews and Christians believe the same.
The Christian fanatic, Abraham Vereide, who helped establish Goodwill Industries in Washington State and founded The Family, the weirdo sect behind the National Prayer Breakfast was opposed to unions for exactly the same reasons – akin to making heaven on earth. Man is fallen and condemned to penurious labor till death.
He’s dead. What the F ever..
In a modern society so awash with food, where the over abundance of calories has become a major health crisis, threatening to starve the electorate into submission is…
..an option?
It’s really no wonder then, that Fat Hitler’s USDA has stooped to threatening major food retailers to prevent them from helping out SNAP recipients. In America there is enough food to go around if we all decide to do our part. Skip dining out this month and give the money instead to your local food bank. Pay attention at checkout. And when asked if you’d like to round up your purchase to help local food banks, say yes. And consider a more modest Thanksgiving this year, and give the savings to your local food bank.
Those of us who are blessed to live in progressive, healthy, economically thriving blue states should all just step up. It won’t take much. Just a few dollars each and we can feed the American children Republicans are trying to starve.
And if that leaves SNAP recipients in Mississippi, Arkansas, Idaho, and Alabama hungry this holiday season, maybe they need to reconsider who they vote for (and also their fellow Republican’s “Xtian charity”).
California changing the name of the San Juoquin service between Oakland/Sacramento to Bakersfield. It’s had that name since Governor R.W. Reagan first funded the restoration of passenger service in the Central Valley during his final yea in office. The Southern Pacific Oakland-LA San Juoquin Daylight was not including in the original Amtrak route plan, and for a national operation, made sense, although Amtrak should have included it anyway for one reason. It would have given them a foot in the door on Tehachapi. That or they should have retained the San Francisco Chief of the Santa Fe.
https://www.trains.com/pro/passenger/intercity/amtrak-san-joaquins-renamed-as-gold-runner/
New name is Gold Runner, which could be fitting for the Sacramento section, depending on how far the station is from Sutters Mill.
Lots of ways.
One example is the significant slow down in the construction of new homes in most of the United States where jobs are available. This has come about during the adult working lifetimes of Boomers as they pursued local land use and development restrictions that choked off all kinds of housing types and the buildable lands inventories.
Only after inventories become so restricted, and affordability become a crisis have we begun to see relaxations in these local restrictions, and then only in limited jurisdictions and often resulting in still more restrictions in development types. So while the city of Seattle may have thrown open residential development to some extent, surrounding jurisdictions where the underlying land is far more abundant and affordable have not. And where Seattle has allowed some densification, it has been often limited to land use types that remain entirely unaffordable to most of the surrounding workforce. So a single $1.2 million dollar home on a 2,200 square foot lot becomes two $800,000 dollar “townhomes” on divided 1,100 foot lots. It’s not a solution. But it’s what the Boomer voters who have dominated the jurisdiction will allow, rather than multistory, multi-family. And meanwhile, a thirty minute commute away, 5,000 to 10,000 foot lots in exclusionary land use zones remain dominant.
The underlying problem is that to increase the buildable lands inventory relative to housing units you have two options: sprawl (which has become unsustainable for a host of obvious reasons) or up-zoning. As buildable lands became increasingly restricted beginning in the late 1960s, the cost burden of land per housing unit eventually began to skyrocket.
Historical patterns of residential development that in the past accomodated economc growth and population growth, as well as changes in household composition, began to disappear when developers and land use authorities embraced land use planning as a way of discouraging certain types of residents, mostly focusing on discouraging lower incomes.
Smaller lots sizes laid out across highly walkable rectilinear street grid systems adjacent to transit served arterials were replaced with gigantic lots laid out in curvilinear street patterns with cul de sacs, far fewer intersections, and fewer, but much more congested high speed arterials making walking to access transportation impossible. Voila! No poors (and no browns, single moms, disabled people).
These are all Boomer innovations. And a few jurisdictions with very limited inventories of buildable lands removing a few restrictions will not undo these patterns of development that took decades to arise. These innovations did not come about “organically”. They were intentionally planned with specific outcomes in mind. And frankly they succeeded.
I wan’t to be clear and very up front in expressing once again my firm belief that nobody should ever, under any circumstances, throw sandwiches at anyone else, including law enforcement. And that it really ought to be a crime for anyone to do so.
So it’s really unfortunate that the jury in the DC DC, now listening to testimony from fully grown up adult DHS agents describe the “severe injuries” they received from “the awful smell of onions” and the “mustard splattering everywhere”, are going to have a very difficult time not nullifying the case and refusing to convict in spite of the evidence. But that’s how hateful and repulsive MAGA fascists are.
Musk complaining about candidates appearing multiple times on the NYC Mayor’s ballot. Apparently he’s never heard of NY’s Fusion Voting system.
@85 Zoning may contribute, but wasn’t the root cause of the housing crash. Builders quit building because people quit buying because lenders quit lending after the credit system seized up.
The present housing shortage is a direct result of the subprime mortgage meltdown, which is what happens when you let Republicans deregulate. When Reagan deregulated, we got massive S&L fraud; when the Bushes deregulated, we got the subprime collapse.
It’s not true that Seattle suburbs are blocking new construction. Old homes are being torn down and their lots subdivided. There’s lots of infill development, townhome and apartment construction. NIMBY limitations on new construction are largely gone in the surrounding jurisdictions.
The biggest problem holding back new residential construction in many areas is a labor shortage. Also, materials are more expensive. Even with greater land availability, builders can’t readily build “affordable” housing anymore.
@86 The real crime is wasting perfectly good food. He should have wadded up and thrown the sandwich wrapper instead.
