There is a rational way to deal with illegal immigration, but focusing on the wetbacks is the wrong way to do it.

Eddie what company goes to Mexico and recruit this poor and down trodden folks to this country? The flood of people is due to the lack of opportunities in that country without an education. The government of that country is expelling them into this country because they do not want to deal with their own problems. Put the blame where it belongs, deal with the root causes, quite taking on their problems, and forcing the citizens of this country to pay the bill. Pull your head past your sphincter muscle, breath some fresh air and start thinking or tomorrow you will have to speak Spanish.

Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I’m a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, veterans of “the greatest war,” with their families. It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.
On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
Yesterday, December 7, 1941– a date which will live in infamy–the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.
But as she read, she suddenly turned angry. “Wait a minute,” she said, “they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with “so help us God.'” Her husband said, “You are probably right. We’re not supposed to say things like that now.”
“I know I’m right,” she insisted. “I remember the speech.” The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.
Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, “Well, it has been over 50 years. She’s probably forgotten.” But she had not forgotten. She was right.
I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading — “Flags of Our Fathers” by James Bradley. It’s all about the battle at Iwo Jima. I haven’t gotten too far in the book. It’s tough to read because it’s a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.
But, right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt’s speech to the nation ends in “so help us God.”
The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war. But they couldn’t fool the people who were there. Roosevelt’s words are engraved in their hearts.
Now I ask:
WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF HISTORY??
People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning. He still wants to be… and He always will be!

The most outrageous thing with this illegal immigration situation is the complete disrepect for the law. On the part of everyone with their fingers into this sordid affair — illegal aliens, employers, politicians, etc.
Right now, up to half our immigration comes from illegal aliens. Some folks come legally and stay illegally, and many others illegally cross the border in the first place. Every decade or so, there is some amnesty legislation passed that lets most of these folks obtain legal status in the United States.
They say there are 12 million people illegally living in the United States. At the same time, there are far more than 12 million people in other countries who have applied for permission to legally immigrate to the United States, but have been turned down because there are limits to legal immigration in almost all categories.
Many millions of the illegal immigrants are illegally employed in the United States. Many of them work illegally under the table for employers who pay them in cash, and do not pay any income or social security taxes whatsoever. Those who get W-2 forms almost always use some sort of fake social security number. While those folks may pay social security taxes, they probably claim maximum withholding allowances and never file or pay income taxes.
If having 12 million more LEGAL residents in the United States is a desirable goal, then why should the people already here illegally be given any preference over the law abiding people who have openly applied for immigration and patiently waited?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The best thing about the current immigration debate is that it’s tearing the GOP in two! The extreme right wants the KKK wing of the party to win out while the moderates are worrying about pandering to the Hispanic vote. What to do what to do.
I met a guy who lives in the Rio Grande Valley. They watch the illegals flood across the border every day for a FREE education for their kids and FREE Medical. The border town hospitals are FLOODED with pregnant illegals who come across the border a day or 2 before their due dates, feign agony and demand Caescerean births. The border towns lead the Universe in Caesereans!
I cannot blame these illegals for coming across. They are taking advantage of our compassion but most of them have nothing to lose and could give a rat’s ass about WHO is paying or how inept the Mexican Government is. All they want is a decent education for their kids, good health care and backdoor CITIZENSHIP!!! Plus, these people work very, very hard and are just trying to better themselves.

The Columbia Spectator reports that “tens of thousands took to the streets” on Saturday calling for peace and withdrawal from Iraq.
According to the Spectator, the following organizations rallied for the “Peace and Justice Festival”: United For Peace & Justice, the National Organization For Women, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, the National Youth and Student Peace Coalition, Veterans For Peace, College Democrats, Campus Antiwar Network, and various other campus organizations.
But, from what I read, the protest was much more anti-American than anti-war.
One group’s banner read “Parents, teachers and students united to smash capitalism.” They shouted, “Exxon, Mobile, PB, Shell! I was disgusted with Immigration when our company was audited for our I9s one year. We found out 12 employees (good workers) were illegal and accordingly fired them. They were working for another company in less than a week. When I found out where they were working I called my contact at Immigration and he shrugged it off “They’re not on the audit list right now.” So we lost good workers for nothing, apparently.

The righties have shown themselves unable to agree how to handle the “crises” they created in an attempt to divert attention from the war, health care, high gas prices, and the 32% approval rating of their pretender president.
Because history is dead, the GOP doesn’t realize that this problem has been going on for over seventy-five years.
Pancho and my father were about the same age, my dad a little younger. Pop was raised on the family farm, that dim dark memory of Americans. It was such a lousy business that he had to quit school at 16 to help the family stave off foreclosure.
The great depression finished off the farm, and the deed ceded to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. My dad was headed for work in the building trades anyway, he’d had it with the vaunted family farm. After five years of hard scrabble at slave wages, he made his goal.
Pancho, meanwhile, really had joined with the Peasant Revolution in Mexico, but the oligarchs eventually won that struggle to keep the peasants there providing cheap labor for them and their buddies North of the border. It was rough after Pancho fled to El Norte, there was a huge population of unemployed and displaced in California at that time. Former residents of beautiful Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. The threat of a peoples uprising in California got the New Dealers in to save the asses of big bidness, and agribusiness eventually got Pancho into the fields.
Of course, the Bracero program was rampant by that time, causing immigration raids and visits by thugs from the sheriffs department every time Pancho and his compatriots decided they needed higher wages. That was the “troubles” that were stopped when Pancho became a small businessman, and entered the middle class along with my family.
My dad and Pancho were the first generation in this iteration of a long running problem, me and my high school friend Juan were the second. We both went to college in state colleges where tuitions were underwritten by the state government (oh the horrors), but Juan’s Mexican relatives still found opportunity to work cheap and get ahead (if they lived) in California’s cheap labor underground.
In the eighties the third generation attempt to deal with illegal immigration, determined that we couldn’t get tough on the cheap labor mafia, so laws were enacted that put the INS in partnership with the them, like the one in message 21. Since Juan and me weren’t going to let his family get treated like dirt, an amnesty was won for illegals already here.
So, now Juan’s kids and mine are looking at the same problem, caused by the same people. Agribusiness needs stoop labor to pick crops, and the illegal immigrant is the source for that cheap labor. The United States government undermines the ability of that workforce to organize and become a properly paid group, so they look to escape to greener pastures in building services, the hotel industry, building trades, etc. It isn’t as easy for them to become citizens as it was for Pancho, so they remain an unassimilated population. A problem that was once pretty well limited to Texas and California is spread out nationwide, and the fouth generation facing this problem are adults.
Here’s a hint. Stop using the government to pamper the businesses that prey on cheap labor, and the problem will go away. If you really believe in free markets (along with the tooth fairy) let the labor market be free, too.
