Drinking Liberally

by Goldy — Tuesday, 11/29/05, 2:16 pm

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E.

In honor of Lori Sotelo, I plan to be there tonight, challenging the drivers licenses of all those who attempt to order alcohol. I’m hoping maybe Andrew shows up, so that I can achieve as high a disqualification rate as she did.

Duke Cunningham forfeited any status he enjoyed as a bona fide WAR HERO when he became enchanted with the Culture of Corruption that is conservatism.

Once he did that, he put himself in the same disgraceful league as Abramoff, Ney, Safavin, Libby, Cheney, Bush, Rove, Frist, DeLay, Scanlon, Burns, Doolittle, Jefferson. Did I leave any Republicans off the list? Gee, I’m sorry but the list of corruption is getting so long it’s tough to remember them all.

But I will enjoy the personal agony each one will go through. Let this be a lesson to Republicans — what goes around comes around. They started this vicious personal destruction of public people starting with President Clinton. And, for what? White Water, Travelgate, Filegate, a b-l-o-w j-o-b he didn’t want to admit in a court of law? Please!!

Conservatives = corruption. Any doubt? Read a fucking paper.

In the meantime. Baaaaaa Haaaaaaahaha hahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha Haaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaa.

[Here is how the Democrats will win in 2008!!! Read On!!!!!!] Social Security cards run about $20, green cards about $70 and a California driver’s license between $60 and $250. The price jumps up for higher-quality documents, such as IDs with magnetic strips containing real information — often from victims of identity theft. As the demand for counterfeit IDs skyrockets, the criminal organizations that produce them are increasingly relying on sophisticated technology to expand their operations and thwart authorities.

Sorry there Roger Rabbit, but this is one time when the bunny and me are not going to see eye to eye on this issue.

Like I said, he forfeited his bona fide WAR HERO status. And, war hero describes perfectly his service in Viet Nam. I’m not taking away what he did, but he does NOT deserve the continued honor that is bestowed upon real heroes.

Do to so only tarnishes other war heroes with the stain of his shame. At some point, you have to separate the honorable from the truly dishonorable. It was the Dukes action and his action alone that brought this shame upon him. These are the consequences of his actions.

Sorry, Roger Rabbit, but you just can’t commingle the shameful with the honorable. He will forever be on the outside looking in.

Perhaps I have a different perspective on war heroes. I served in Vietnam with a guy who ended up getting the Medal of Honor (after getting dead), and I knew another Vietnam hero who was a rogue — he lost his battlefield commission for getting into a fist fight with a general (normally you go to Leavenworth for that, but he had too many medals to court-martial, so they only busted him in rank and retired him).

1972 Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern was one of World War 2’s most important heroes — he led the bomber squadron that destroyed Hitler’s oil refineries, the most important (and difficult) target in Europe.

The Democratic Party has been home to many other war heroes, as well, including Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, a World War 2 recipient of the Medal of Honor.

To its everlasting shame, the Republican Party does not hesitate to savage veterans and war heroes when it suits their political purposes, including their own Sen. John McCain.

Let’s not stoop to their level, guys. We’re better than they are. Yes, let’s hold Duke Cunningham accountable for the wrongs he committed, but when we do it, let’s also show him respect on account of his extraordinary military record.

    Roger Rabbit

Your passion for veterans, especially Viet Nam vets runs deep, and let me say I respect that 100%, and you too, by the way.

But this isn’t the swiftboating of Cunningham. I’m not calling into question his military service.

What I am saying is that a person who has such an esteemed military service such as Duke knows better. I know I’m being biased, but I expect — no demand — better personal behavior of a Naval Aviator. This isn’t some “oops, I goofed on my taxes when I forgot to carry the 9 in the 7th position to the left of the decimal point” kind of mistake.

The guy knew he was ripping off the very people he swore to protect, me, you and every law abiding citizen of this country. The truth is my blood boils more over Duke than DeLay because I wouldn’t bat an eyelash at some corrupt bug exterminator from Texas pulling that kind of shit. But, a decorated Naval Officer, uh, no fucking way.

When you do that, you bring shame to your service, and quite frankly, I am personally embarrassed he was in the Navy. He’s earned, and fully deserving, of public scorn.

People like John McCain, Max Cleland, John Kerry and the other honorable men and women shredded by those corrupt conservatives didn’t deserve to have their service called into question. I’m not calling Dukes service into question, just his personal integrity. He doesn’t get a free pass, from me at least, because of past military service.

What was truly ironic is that Old Dan R. used to be head of the Ways & Means Committee when the Dems ran the House some time back. It’s ironic in that he was a tax cheat and went to prison when he was the top dog in determining the tax laws!

Marc Rich made a fortune breaking rules about crude oil pricing. Duke Cunningham made a solemn vow to serve as public representative but took bribes and broke that vow. The difference between these two law-breakers ought to be great enough for even a blindly partisan libertarian to admit Cunningham’s crime was far worse. Rich broke some questionable rules. Cunningham broke with the public trust. Now, if only President Dumbass were recognized as breaking the public trust, and duly excoriated, the USA might rebuild its lost integrity.

    MALENG: NO CHARGES AGAINST SOTELO

King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng announced today he will not prosecute Lori Sotelo for perjury because she acted in “good faith” in challenging more than 1,900 King County voters of whom she had no personal knowledge.

Is he kidding? She’s a Republican! Maleng should have asked his deputy, Dan Satterberg, to explain Civil Procedure with him — then ruled as “a matter of law” that everything the GOP does is in bad faith – no fact finding is needed!

But Maleng is a Republican, so we can assume (as a matter of law) that his decision not to prosecute Sotelo is in bad faith! It is, therefore, an abuse of prosecutorial discretion.

Goldy, you should run this by Lawyer X!

In other news, an article from the American Jewish weekly Forward entitled “Costly Withdrawal Is the Price To Be Paid for a Foolish War” states the following:

Clearly, then, the thing to do [in Iraq] is to forget about face-saving and conduct a classic withdrawal…

As the pullout proceeds, Iraq almost certainly will sink into an all-out civil war from which it will take the country a long time to emerge — if, indeed, it can do so at all. All this is inevitable and will take place whether George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice like it or not…

For misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 B.C sent his legions into Germany and lost them, Bush deserves to be impeached and, once he has been removed from office, put on trial along with the rest of the president’s men. If convicted, they’ll have plenty of time to mull over their sins.

“Duke” was the worst kind of Neo-Con (among many) he voted for the War, and then sat back ond proffited from it.

No doubt about it, that bastard needs to HANG! I hope his blubbering ass is haunted by every dead soldier and every parent/sibling/child of every dead soldier he sent to war for his profit.

Oh, yeah, and the rest of the Neo-Cons are gonna get it too. Oh yeah. Fucking hang every damn one of them. And then start on the Zombie-Parade that enabled them.

I am no fan of CLinton, but that is because of his many policy mistakes. When it comes to “scandal” he waas the cleanest President since Jimmy Carter. It’s been nothing but scum and thugs in between.

Victor Raiser II, Hershel Friday, and Ed Willey, a total of three plane crashes and one “Fosterization”. Following Brown’s demise, his personal attorney as well as a co-worker at the Department of Commerce, Barbara Wise also died under questionable circumstances. As in the case of yet another “suddenly dead” member of the Clinton administration, Vincent Foster , Ron Brown’s office was ransacked for files by Commerce staff immediately after his death.”

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating here: I work under the basic assumption that Republicans are crooks and Democrats are dolts. That certainly doesn’t mean that Republicans can be stupid and Democrats can’t be crooks.

Richard Nixon was a crook, but stupid enough to actually record the evidence that forced his resignation in 1974. Lyndon Johnson saddled us with Medicare, which is the most costly government boondoggle around, and he was so corrupt that he got elected to the House with the votes of dead folks in Cotula, Texas.

From my perspective, there are corrupt and stupid folks on both sides.

I didn’t mean to imply, or that you implied, “free pass” as to not punish the “Dook-ster.” I meant, free pass in the sense his prior military service is not going to allow him avoid public scorn.

And, besides forfeiting his military status he also needs to have his manhood revoked for crying like a little blubbering bitch that personifies a conservative.

You know like, oh, say, Jim Baker: **sniff** **sniff** “I have sinned against you, wahhhh, wahhhh.”

Typical conservative, caught committing felonies, then crying about it. Like I said, at least Martha Stewart took her punishment without embarrassing herself or Liberals. I hate to say she took it like a “man”, because when you compare Cunting-ham to Martha, well, let’s just say Martha raised the bar and “Dookie” kicked the bar to the ground.

So, I guess to say Martha took it like a woman means she didn’t whine, whimper, blubber and soil herself publicly.

Thanks, “Puke” for embarrassing real MEN everywhere.

GBS, you have presented many points. Jimmy Swaggart was/is/shall always be an ass. Notice ass is in lower case not to confuse StuckASS with the ASSes here. Regarding Duke, doesn’t say in the Bible to confess your sins with a contrite heart. Now he should have NOT gone there. But how many of us have ran from sin in our lives? StuckASS talked about the beam in your own eye. For once I will agree with the quote, not the connotation it was delivered in. We all have problems. The big thing I disagree with most ASSheads here are the glee you all grab your crotches when a person falls. I can name quite a few on your side that have ethical issues.

How many of us with the woman lying there legs spread beckoning you downward said: “Damn I have to go. I forgot to kiss mama goodnight!” Or if you are a woman looking over the meat rack said: “What would daddy say now?”

Are you saying that being a blubbering bitch is bad where Martha was/is a bitch is good? I don’t think Martha was contrite! Do you really think so GBS?

Regarding RW@59: The corruption culture started long ago. Let’s see, you had Jim Wright, Mel Reynolds, Dan Rostenkowski, etc. Did you know under Illinois law, Reynolds must register with Chicago police as a convicted sex offender. Do I take glee in that. No, but I will elevate it to counter the BULLSHIT Rupert Wabbet and others love to spew here!

Let’s go further with Mel Reynolds. Jesse Jackson has hired him at PUSH. I just love that name. An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate, then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate. Now that’s funny!!! I can keep on going too.

And I say, let him serve his prison time with dignity, in recognition of his prior military service; but heap scorn on him for his hypocritical, wacked-out, arrogant politics.

“And, besides … he also needs to have his manhood revoked for crying like a little blubbering bitch that personifies a conservative. You know like, oh, say, Jim Baker: **sniff** **sniff** ‘I have sinned against you, wahhhh, wahhhh.'”

I’d much rather see tears of remorse and contrition than the in-your-face, fuck-you arrogance we usually get from Republicans. At least this one has enough conscience to feel a sense of guilt and shame. Can’t say the same for most of ’em.
