Roger Rabbitspews:
The GOP gambled and lost. I can hardly wait to see the campaign ads this fall: The GOP voted for the insurance companies instead of the American people. The GOP voted to bankrupt ordinary hardworking salt-of-the-earth Americans with medical bills. The GOP voted to keep 32 million Americans uninsured. The GOP voted for higher deficits and higher insurance premiums. When we get through with these guys, they’re going to feel like yesterday’s junk mail after it’s gone through a paper shredder.

Alki Areaspews:
If everyone sat down and comprised the Republicans would have got MOST of what they want (they got half of it in Obama’s bill anyway). They could have got their lawsuit/liability reform and such. Look, the Republicans lost the last election HUGE to a guy (Obama) who debated back and forth with Hillary on HOW close to universal health care they would create. The folks who voted Obama in with his near landslide mandate WANTED this…the far right never did, but they didn’t vote for Obama. If folks didn’t want this evil socialist death panel we created (giggle) they could have put John McCain in office in a landslide. They didn’t. Golly. Get over it.
7
correctnotrightspews:
It is not the best health care bill – but it does put some limits on the insurance industry, it does allow for preexisting conditions, and it does basically cover all Americans.
Too bad the radical republicans could not even sign on to one of the most moderate bills…they will go down in defeat for their mindless intransigence and their knee jerk radicalism. this is theior Waterloo and they deserve every bit of it. The party of no ideas and no clue voted as a block to refuse compromise. the president came to them and accepted some of their ideas (despite the fact they had almost no new ideas) and then they still obstructed and voted as a block and proposed no alternative except start over (i.e: no alternative except the status quo and being in the pocket of the insurance companies).

6, 7 — The voters who elected Obama and a Democratic congress haven’t gone away. They understand this vote pits the Republican Party against the American people. And they won’t have any trouble figuring out who is on their side.

“Rep. Anh ‘Joseph’ Cao will vote ‘no’ on the health care bill, CNN’s Dana Bash reports. Cao was the one Republican who voted for the House bill in November.
“The Louisiana representative said he will not support the Senate bill because of its abortion language. Cao does not think the executive order goes far enough, his chief of staff said.”
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Yeah, sure sure. Anyone who believes that, let me show you a rabbit that lays colored eggs! There isn’t a single Republican with the guts to vote country instead of party. Not one.
In 2007, Lehman Brothers CEO Richard Fuld was paid nearly $72 million for driving his company into bankruptcy.

A Republican is someone who will gladly spend $1 trillion to kill 100,000 Iraqis and bitterly oppose spending $1 trillion to provide health care to Americans.

My my, I tried to hold you back but you were stronger
Oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight
And how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo – I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo – promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo – couldn’t escape if I wanted to
Waterloo – knowing my fate is to be with you
And how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose

For me that is a central point. I cannot get over the moral and economic catastrophe that is Iraq. And it is clear, the other side (with many willing dupes on ours) were willing to mortgage the country to kill kill kill. It is repellent.
The squandering it just too much. Back a few years ago I did a back-of-the-envelope type calculation: at that time Iraq had cost 400-500 billion dollars. for that amount of money, we could have converted HALF the entire US electrical production capacity to wind power. You could apply this logic to anything: health care, the environment, education, eradication of poverty.
Fuck you Republicans.
