Open Thread Monday

by Carl Ballard — Monday, 12/16/19, 8:35 am

The Seattle impeachment rally is tomorrow. 5:00 at the Federal Building. The address and directions are at the link. If you can’t make it to Seattle, you can find one in your town.

There are a million things that this President deserves to be impeached for. But undermining our democracy from the White House seems up at the top.

OPEN THREAD

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 12/13/19, 8:01 am

I am glad that the House of Representatives is going to impeach President Trump. There are so many impeachable crimes that he has committed, boiling it down to just a couple articles. It leaves a lot off the table. Still. Thanks to all of the people voting for it.

Hey, now would be an excellent time to call your member of Congress and ask them to impeachment President Trump. If you are represented by a Republican, let them know. If you are represented by a Trumpy Republican, let them know.

Open Thread Monday

by Carl Ballard — Monday, 12/9/19, 8:31 am

Somewhat inexplicable to me, some far left critics of Pete Buttigieg have decided that he was working for the CIA. And while he is not my candidate by a long shot, I kind of have to defend him.

There are 2 parts to this. First he worked for a consulting firm that had an NDA. I don’t know enough about the specific firm, but in general NDA’s are bad, but they’re the company, not the employee, who impose them.

The second thing is that he went to Somalia once: A thing that we only know about because he literally wrote about it in the New York Times. Now, I am also not an expert on CIA procedures but it strikes me that this is probably not how they operate:

1) Send a couple people into a country for one (1) day.

2) Meet with officials publicly.

3) Go to the marketplace.

4) Unspecified crimes.

5) Go check out ancient caves.

6) Write about it in an article that’s very critical of US foreign policy including quoting people calling it corrupt.

7) Run for President the first election it’s Constitutionally possible.

Seems like he would keep a lower profile.

But the serious thing I want to say is this: If you see someone promoting this nonsense uncritically, they are a bad source of information; Not just on this specific thing, but going forward.

I had not picked a Presidential candidate, but Harris was in my top tier. And she was my first top tier candidate to drop out. I was surprised by how much it stinks that she’s out. She has been an amazing Senator, and it will be good to see her back there full time.

Judge blocks I-976, as Eyman finds another way to vandalize our ballots

by Darryl — Wednesday, 11/27/19, 11:22 am

Tim “Biggest Lie of My Life” Eyman as been dealt another blow today by King County Superior Court Judge Marshall Ferguson. Ferguson blocked I-976, Eyman’s most recent $30 car tab initiative, from taking effect.

King County Superior Court Judge Marshall Ferguson expressed concern during a hearing Tuesday that [the ballot measure’s] language was misleading, and in his order Wednesday he said the plaintiffs were likely to win their case. He ordered Washington state to cease efforts to implement the initiative on Dec. 5, when it was due to take effect, pending further orders.

Just given Eyman’s record of repeated failures on ballot measures, I-976 is likely to be struck down. In general, Eyman has a robust pattern of failure, dishonesty, and fiscal mismanagement in his life, that has recently resulted in civil suit, bankruptcy, a divorce, and a even a very public episode of shop lifting.

In his latest move, Eyman is running for Governor. But he can’t even do that honestly, with campaign material saying “Governor Eyman for Washington” and “Governor Tim Eyman for Washington.”

So, unless he has even more difficulties in filing to run, we will see Eyman’s name on the ballot for the August 4th primary. That will be just one more way for Tim Eyman to engage in ballot vandalism.
