– Keep ICE out of Spokane parks.

– This was written before the pause (to 35%), but tariffs are still a problem.
– More Redmond light rail.
– Come on REI. Do better.
– I still don’t know who I’m voting for for City Attorney, but the Hacks and Wonks interviews with all of the challenges make me glad they’re running.

If it’s Friday, it’s Carl has too many tabs open and is sharing some with you! Only realized after assembling them that it’s even more Seattle focused than usual.
– Joe Mallahan is running for mayor again. Hard no thank you in the primary.
– I don’t know enough about the Bar’s rules to know what will happen with Judge Pooja Vaddadi’s complaint, but Ann Davison seems to have acted unethically from a moral standpoint.
– Finally, Seattle elected officials do what the public most wants: Self dealing.
– And hey, the people spending big on Sara Nelson are who you think they are.

Good morning. I think it’s allergies since an antihistamine helps but I have been feeling gross for the last few days. So this may be even less coherent than usual.
But! I do want to say: It’s filing week. And you know what that means. You, yes you: You can run for office. Lots of local offices and people like you, but critically not you yet are putting their name forward.

– I am glad to see Democrats competing everywhere in Washington.
– Fearmongering about transit safety could at least get their statistics right.
– Just fucking let the nude beachgoers be, SPD. Gosh.
– Anyway contact your legislator or member of Congress. They want to hear from you, and if they don’t, then they need to hear from you.

– Seattle, what a hellhole.
– When you’re cutting HIV funds, maybe you found something other than waste.

by Carl Ballard — ,
– Not local, but Justice Gorsuch is lying.
– So yeah, how about that legislature.
– Gross, Portland Catholic School. Don’t be racist.
– I am much less pro trucks in general than the author of this piece. But yes, Cybertrucks don’t even truck well.

The legislature adjourned Sine Die over the weekend. Some stuff passed that even recently seemed impossible: Rent stabilization, even if it’s not as far as I would like, and parking reforms especially seemed like impossible tasks just a few years ago.
And yet. And yet. Without a wealth tax, the budget is still cuts heavy. Shame.
I am still going to tell you to write to your legislator, but things aren’t as urgent now that the session is over.

– This article about the closure of the Psychiatric Center for Children and Adolescents in Spokane and a suicide that it might have prevented is rough, but worth the read.
– Trans kids can still play sports in Washington.
– The state budget may be more cruel to homeless people in right of ways than it is currently.
– Did you know, you can contact your legislators and members of Congress? It’s true!

I have said it before. Tariffs can be part of sound industrial policy. Even rather large ones. But they shouldn’t be the entire policy. So yeah, when they hurt industries, and there isn’t a whole suite of policies offsetting that, it’s just garbage. I worry Trump’s gross incompetence could hurt future politicians’ ability to do it right.

– Keep the goddam passenger ferry.
– This Seattle City Council is not great, and the comprehensive plan won’t go nearly far enough. But at least it can go somewhere.
– Who is going to be street drinking during the World Cup?

– Spokane is doing good on traffic safety. Let see how much it comes to fruition.
– Anyway, calling your legislator or member of Congress is free.
by Carl Ballard — ,
– The legislature is in the last few weeks. The budget is… come on Bob Ferguson.
– But at least good news on trans healthcare.
– Grays Harbor’s levee is in danger because of the Trump Administration.
– Anyway, contact your legislator or member of Congress.

Depending on where you are in Washington, you may have a ballot in the mail. Here in King County, we have the important issue of something something fingerprints. The Fuse voter guide is pro, so I will probably just go with that. But I don’t know, just it feels weird having the vote rather than it just being part of the police budget.
Anyway, if you’re confused about what’s on your ballot, Fuse do a pretty good job. So check out their voting guide.
Anyway, anyway today is a good day to contact your legislator or member of Congress.

When I-5 loses a few lanes Downtown, or back in the day maintenance of the the Viaduct, you get breathless news coverage. But significant delays on the 1 Line are just a normal story. They should be a normal story, but so should carmageddon!!!!!! stories.
Your commute may be messed up, here are some work arounds is a reasonable story, is good. But maybe the local media aren’t catering to transit riders as much as drivers. Or maybe it reflects how whiny some drivers can be, and need the media to reflect that.
Anyway, it sure would be nice if we had a streetcar that ran through Downtown to make alternate routes easier.
