Speaking of stumbling U.S. EV companies, you shouldn’t sleep on the TSLA earnings call this past Wednesday.
It was a shitshow.
Elmo got on the call and admitted (his words) that Hardware 3 “simply does not have the capability to achieve unsupervised FSD.”
He said he wished it were otherwise. He said the memory bandwidth is one-eighth of what Hardware 4 has. And that’s the end of the conversation. So as far as the 4 million Tesla vehicles on the road right now with Hardware 3, none of them can ever obtain FSD. And for all of those owners who each paid between $8,000 and $15,000 for FSD “when it becomes available” Tesla is now in breach. And as recently as 2022 Elmo is on public record assuring those owners that HW 3 is capable of FSD. So recorded bad faith.
Elmo said these owners who the company has fucked in the ass will be offered a “discounted trade-in” towards the purchase of a new vehicle with HW 4. One major investor said the estimate is about 285,000 owners affected by the breach, or about $2.5 billion in direct damages, not to mention indirect damages, compensatory damages, legal fees and potential punitive damages. It’s possibly the largest consumer breach in the history of the planet.
As for the actual earnings? Cooked to a charry crisp. They liquidated warranty reserves and booked future tariff refunds to pump up revenues. Surprised with the 8, the southern leg didn’t get the blame for the delays. I see to be just a crosstown between Seattle Center and Capitol Hill, was extended in the 90s to cover MLK North. Was just shifted off of MLK between Jackson and Massachusetts to serve Judkins Park Station. Hopefully Denny bus lanes work, usually where it gets delayed the most. Shifting it to 23rd will make it easier to electrify, especially when the 48 eventually becomes a trolleybus. Don’t need to fully wire the routes anymore.
