  4. I know that Elijah is unhappy that the US military death toll has stalled at 7 and holding. To tide him over until he can celebrate the next US military man or woman to die is the news I heard on NPR this afternoon that eight military personnel have sustained serious injuries, and the total injured count stands at about 140.
    A mangled appendage or two is just the ticket to cheer up a liberal who is clearly unhappy that more Americans have not died in this conflict.

    Emile Hokayem from the International Institute for Strategic Studies nevertheless pointed to Iran’s significant self-inflicted problems. “The regime is still standing but faced a massive issue of resources,” he said. “Where do the resources come from when you have lost your ability to export when Hormuz is closed because of your own threats when the region does not want to trade with you and the United Arab Emirates is considering to freeze its assets.”

    Fire is ceased when you are too weakened to shoot back. No agreement necessary at that point.

    Not that I’m cheering for them. I’m definitely not. The Iranian regime (as distinct from the Iranian people) are bad guys. Theocratic fascists, the worst kind.

    But Trump is a guy with big ideas who can’t be bothered with careful planning or looking after details. That’s why all his business ventures failed, and his biggest real estate dreams either were scaled down or weren’t built.

    Everything he attempts turns into a clusterfuck because he swan dives into them. That’s a lifelong habit of his, so why would anyone think this venture will be any different?

  11. For the record, the “Persian” language spoken in Iran is usually referred to as Farsi. The Afghan variant is Dari, and the dialect spoken in Tajikstan is Tajik. But people who only read comic books may not know that.

    Lawmakers weigh $15 million lifeline for Southern Oregon University

    SOU recently announced that it will drop below its approved cash threshold of $12.68 million this year. By the end of February 2027, the university projects it won’t have enough cash to make payroll. Leadership anticipates a shortfall of more than $14 million by June 2027.

    University leaders attribute the crisis to rising costs, declining enrollment and what President Rick Bailey has described as inadequate state funding.

    Some campuses are just so much shittier than others that nothing will help. I’m looking at you, Evergreen State College.

    Oh, really. Because if your unshared link was this article by The Post and Courier, it wasn’t the FBI corroborating anything, but rather things the FBI wrote that ended up in the public domain being corroborated by private news sources.

    And notably:

    Of the details that The Post and Courier found supported by public records, none related directly to the alleged victim’s claims about Trump.

    And not only were the allegations against Trump not corroborated by the FBI, it looks like the FBI thought they were such obvious bullshit that it didn’t waste any time even trying:

    One agent involved in the woman’s interviews with the FBI was a psychologist, trained in victim trauma. Critical elements of the woman’s story are difficult to verify without the ability to call witnesses, conduct sworn interviews and subpoena financial records. It is unclear whether the FBI attempted such an investigation.

    So other than being wrong about everything, your post was really, really weak.

    A reminder to me to remind you that former president William Jefferson Clinton was disbarred before the Supreme Court of the United States.

    And speaking of odious attorneys, Hillary Rodham was fired from the Watergate investigation.

  28. The US is missing the point: it does not matter at all if the Iranians attain a nuclear weapon. What matters is what the other non-aligned countries are thinking.

    Those nations, who are not that crazy about the US, are realizing that having nuclear weapons ensures the US will not bother them and try to run their countries for them. They will seek nuclear weapons to stop the US from interfering with their internal affairs.

    Giuliani made “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers, and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020,”.

    Two months later, Giuliani was disbarred in Washington, D.C.

    Michael Cohen
    Another lawyer stripped of his rights to practice law in New York as a result of his work for Trump was Michael Cohen, Trump’s onetime fixer and confidant turned critic.

    John Eastman
    Conservative lawyer John Eastman was suspended from practicing law in California and temporarily suspended from practicing in Washington, D.C., related to his role in attempts to nullify results of the 2020 election.

    Jenna Ellis
    Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis’ license to practice law was suspended after she pleaded guilty in the Fulton County district attorney’s racketeering case against the former president and his allies
