  7. @6 If you were paying attention, which you weren’t, Colbert didn’t say the FCC “canned” the Talarcio interview.

    He said the network’s lawyers told him he couldn’t have Talarico on the show because of the FCC’s equal time rule.

    Did he accuse Trump’s FCC chair of being partisan? Yes. Did he say Trump’s administration wants to silence anyone who says anything bad about Trump on TV “because all Trump does is watch TV”? Yes.

    But that’s same thing. Colbert never said the FCC blocked the broadcast. Colbert didn’t lie, he explained on his show, in detail, what happened. It was the CBS lawyers, he said.

    The MAGA administration tells lies constantly and withholds everything. The President, the Vice President, the Cabinet Secretaries, the Press Secretary, they all tell lies right to America’s face everyday. FFS, they even lie and withhold evidence to protect pedophiles.

    So if nothing we hear from these people can ever be trusted to be the truth, then America is left to figure out the truth for ourselves.
    Just because the lying troll doesn’t like the results doesn’t make those conclusions unreliable.

Colbert said to his studio audience that CBS’ lawyers had told him “in no uncertain terms … that we could not have him on the broadcast.” Colbert said the lawyers wanted to avoid running afoul of new guidance by the Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr that suggests broadcast talk shows could be required to abide by the so-called equal time provision requiring broadcasters to give political candidates equal coverage if their opponents appear on air.

    Colbert did not say the FCC blocked the broadcast of the Talarico interview. He made crystal clear it was CBS lawyers who told him not to air the interview, and that “new guidance” from Carr influenced their decision. Meanwhile, the Democrat on the FCC had something to say about “corporate capitulation” to the Trump administration’s efforts to censor media.

    Colbert knows how to take a win when it’s being handed to him on a silver platter.

    But you really ought to be paying more attention to the subtext, beyond just enjoying Colbert rubbing Paramount’s faces in their own shit.

    Ask yourself why Paramount ordered the false statement denying that Colbert was ordered to remove Talarico.

    As Colbert explained last night, Paramount’s lawyers have pre-approved every script of every show since the merger. Just as they pre-approved the scripts for this week’s shows. Talarico was spiked from the Monday broadcast at their insistence. And while these circumstances may be unique, there is nothing at all unique or unusual about the parent corps lawyers reviewing and ordering changes to the content.

    So why is Paramount lying? After all, they order changes to programming all the time. They own the network.

    Because of course this was all at the command of the FCC Chair. That’s why Paramount is lying.
    They want approval to acquire Warner. And they need Carr’s and Fat Hitler to go along. Carr and Fat Hitler intend to use that leverage to control what goes on the air and Paramount is very happy to give it to them.
    But the administration doesn’t want Americans to see how directly they are manipulating the media. So Paramount has to issue a false press release to give Fat Hitler political cover.

    Slotkin’s attorney, Preet Bharara, directly asked prosecutors what statute the Democrats had allegedly violated to prompt the criminal inquiry, according to sources familiar with these discussions. The prosecutors could not name any statute, the sources told me. “What is the theory of criminal liability?” is the question that was posed to the prosecutors, one source said, adding that “no answer was forthcoming.”

    And so, when the news broke that Pirro had tried-and failed-to secure an indictment, this was particularly shocking to the lawyers, the sources said. That’s because her prosecutors had failed to name any violated statute, yet they forged ahead with the effort to indict anyway. It has not been definitively confirmed what statute they used in that failed effort.
