    And what business is it engaged in these days? Primarily transporting Venezuelan and Iranian oil, to or from Venezuela and Iran, in direct support of Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

    This means the ship itself, its owners, its crew and its cargo are all essentially under sanctions. The seizure of this vessel, essentially enforcing a warrant issued by the Biden-Harris regime three years ago but apparently never followed up on, is not just legal, but an admirable accomplishment for this administration.

Each month for 20+ years the interest paid went down and the principal paid went up. Mortgage insurance was never an issue. Appliances held up, generally. Every five years the carpeting was changed.

    And the rent increases. Remember those? As a landlord’s expenses decrease the annual rent increases.

    When Republicans rant that “student loans MUST be repaid!” they always overlook the backstory, which has several elements:

    1. Forgiving student loans is public policy, the same as lenient bankruptcy laws applicable to business owners is public policy – it’s done to benefit society at large. (N.B.: A frequent beneficiary of lenient business bankruptcy is one Donald J. Trump.)

    2. A subset of forgiving student loans as a matter of public policy beneficial to society is writing off those loans in exchange for a certain number of years of serving in low-paying but essential occupations (e.g., teachers). Republican debt scolds aren’t having that, either.

    3. Now let’s consider why students take on crushing debt in the first place. There are two parts to this:

    a. Society in general and employers beat into young people that they can’t get a decent job without a degree. Some employers even demand degrees for jobs that don’t require a degree.

    b. When the financial crisis caused by Republican deregulation of subprime mortgage lending crushed state budgets, states cut back severely on support for higher education, and public colleges passed those cuts through to students in the form of steep tuition increases.

    All-in-all, the students themselves are largely innocent victims of a system that has told them they must become enslaved to non-bankruptible debt to even have a shot at a job. And that job isn’t guaranteed, only being chained to the debt is.

    So young graduates are responding by (i) not marrying, (ii) not having kids, and (iii) not buying homes.
