    I drove by on Nickerson, about 2 minutes before the report says this happened. About 5 minutes later, I had a police car go screaming past me heading toward SPU. I remember wondering where he was going in such a hurry.

    How do we get the guns out of the hands of the crazies? Every reasonable regulation is blocked by the NRA and feckless conservatives. How many have to die?

  4. You can’t get the guns out of the hands of the crazies unless they’ve been institutionalized. If they have, they won’t be able to register for gun ownership. However, they could still use a family member’s gun, or a gun show rifle, or get a gun through an ad, or any number of other ways.

    The only way to be safe from this crap is to outlaw guns entirely. I’m definitely in favor of that. And before someone brings up the 3 people knifed to death near Santa Barbara, tell me how many people have been knifed to death in the last 10 years compared to how many people have been shot to death. And then just shut up.

  6. @4 I don’t think we need to outlaw guns entirely. All we need to do is get a SCOTUS that will interpret the Second Amendment as it was written. To wit: Guns are the province of well-regulated militias. In other words, if you want to shoot, join the National Guard or Reserves. You’ll be paid, fed, clothed, housed, you’ll get to shoot machine guns and cannons, and the ammo is free.

    There is a case to be made that guns deter crime when the society is unable or unwilling to pay for the human police needed to deter crime, At the cost of a 20 fold increase in deaths.

    Seems that a society that values money more than life, chooses to hoard their wealth, at the expense of lives of their neighbors.

    Guns were used by the criminals in the Knightsbridge area. Don’t you get it? You only worry about how many were killed? So it doesn’t count unless someone is shot or dies? You’re sick man!

    This is a place where guns are “banned”. Oh wait… the criminals never got the message. Criminals will get guns even in a gun banning society. The store video had the patrons and workers cowering behind the cases. It’s a trendy upscale place. Harrods is there along with other special places. The French Embassy is there. Some really good and spicy Indian restaurants are there. Ya think the Brits would have more of a police presence there.

    Ybarra underwent a year of alcohol-abuse treatment ending in December 2013. His counselor reported at the end of the year that Ybarra was separately being treated for depression, mental-health issues, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

    He was taking the antidepressant Prozac at the time and planned to “continue to meet with his psychiatrist & mental health therapist as needed,” according to his counselor’s report.

Murray said a solution to the problem had eluded his predecessors and mayors around the country, but that he believes that community members getting engaged in the problem could make a difference.
