Republicans have reached a new low in the current Washington Post/ABC News poll. Voters now overwhelmingly prefer Democrats to deal with gas prices, health care, education, the budget, the economy, protecting privacy, Iraq, immigration, taxes and terrorism.
But all’s not lost for the GOP. Voters still prefer Republicans by a comfortable margin when it comes to making arrangements to bring in the hookers.
But…but…but…it must be Clinton’s fault! Somehow.
as long as Bush Is Lord, the wing nut
religious morons will support him
But, but but, what do the Republican polls say????
The ones KR attends to.

I got this from a friend in California this morning. McDermott voted against it, too.
Dear Friend,
As a subscriber to my email list, I thought you might be interested in my floor statement in opposition to the misguided Republican Defense Reauthorization bill.
Though 29 Democrats and a lone Republican joined me in opposition, the defense bill last week passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 396 to 31. It is currently awaiting consideration by the Senate.
Sincerely,
Pete Stark
STARK STATEMENT OPPOSING BOONDOGGLE DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION BILL
Mr. Speaker,
I rise in opposition to this Defense Authorization Bill, H.R. 5122. Only a few months after ruthlessly slashing $40 billion in health care, education and job training benefits for working Americans, the Republicans have shamelessly brought forth a Defense Authorization bill that wastefully spends taxpayer dollars and does nothing to make this country any safer.
This bill clearly demonstrates that this Republican Congress has a habitual problem of fiscal mismanagement. This legislation spends billions on the development of ineffective or duplicative weapons systems that pad the pockets of big defense contractors. In turn, these defense contractors thank their Republican sugar daddies by filling their campaign coffers.
H.R. 5122 wastefully authorizes $9.3 billion on pie-in-the-sky Star Wars missile defense, a $184 million increase over President Bush’s request and $2 billion more than the current level of spending. Rather than allocate billions for a Cold War weapon system that will never work, Republicans in Congress should address the real security threat posed by weapons that can easily be delivered or smuggled into America in a suitcase or container.
The bill provides additional funding to build ships that the Navy has not requested and does not need. The Republican legislation also allocates nearly $46 billion for 20 F/A-22 Raptors, $1.4 billion more than President Bush requested and $2.9 billion more than is currently spent. Yet these planes were initially justified as necessary to compete with a new generation of Soviet fighters that no longer exists.
Since the collapse of the Russian air force, there is no nation that has, or is planning to have, fighter jets as dominant as those the U.S. Air Force currently employs in combat. In Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan, the Air Force has demonstrated the superiority of existing U.S. planes. In addition, the GAO recently reported that the costs of the F/A 22 Raptors have ballooned to $1.3 billion more than was budgeted for by the Air Force. Where does accountability begin?
H.R. 5122 does not require the President to provide an exit strategy out of Iraq. Even after spending $315 billion on a misguided Iraq War, the Bush Administration has no clue on how to resolve the situation or an idea of how to get American soldiers out of the conflict.
It is time to stop giving the President a blank check to fight an aimless war. The only thing that the $50 billion outlay in this bill guarantees is that the U.S. will be in Iraq longer than is necessary and that more American soldiers and Iraqi civilians will die without just cause.
I am also very concerned that certain members of Congress have decided to support chaplains who want to push their own religious agenda rather than the military’s commitment to religious tolerance. When chaplains join the military, they accept a duty to serve the military’s mission in addition to their mission to God. In providing spiritual guidance to our soldiers, chaplains should never carry out their duty in a manner that divides or alienates soldiers of different faiths. Chaplains who press ahead with their own agenda ahead of the military’s mission threaten the cohesiveness of military units and the effectiveness of our soldiers in carrying out their duties.
I urge my colleagues to vote against this wasteful and irresponsible bill. It is time we had a defense budget that lives within its means, stops wasting hard earned tax dollars on useless weapon systems, and accounts for what is truly required in Iraq.
More Republican earmarking boondoggles. They lower taxes and raise spending so that we’lll pass on the maximum debt and world financial insecurity on to our children. Besides hastening China’s coming world pre-eminence. We could have held our own a lot longer with some sound fiscal management.
They’re doing a heckuva job, though.
You know, there’s really no immigraiton crisis. If there is such an imminent immigration problem, why has this administration failed to act to such an extent that now we’re drawing on our emergency reserves?
There is a crisis, though. It’s called leadership, and the Republicans have shown that they have none. With our budget deficit skyrocketing, Iraq falling to pieces, our national credibility in tatters, the economy FINALLY limping its way back to pre-Bush levels but with falling real wages accompanying it, we could use some leaders who will address the urgent problems we face, but we have none. OF COURSE we need to focus on the so-called “Mexican invasion.” Hey, look over there!
It’s official, the country wants political change and Pennsylvania is showing the nations contempt at republican leadership.
With less than 6 months to go, GOP approval ratings in congress at 10 year lows, Democrats are favored by voters on 10 out of 10 issues with double digit favored ratings son 9 out of 10 issues ranging from Iraq, national security, health care, economy, gas prices, etc there is no doubt they will be swept from power this November. 2007 will be the last year of the Bush presidency.
Sweeeeeeet.
Nuh, Nuhhhhh, Nuh, Nuh, Nuhhhhh, Nuhhh Hey Hey Heee-y Good Bye.
Roger and the Gang make your donation to the DCCC and reelect the real Democrats and not the Socialist Democrats.
Dear Klake,
If I’ve learned anything from my years as an advocate for working people hurt by the reckless actions of powerful special interests, it is that those at the top do not give up their privileges without a fight.
I have spent my professional life fighting to right the wrongs of the past and I am relieved that the upcoming 2006 congressional elections will do just that.
For five long years, George W. Bush and Congressional Republicans have been waging war on middle class America. Every day, Republicans stand up on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and fight for corporate giveaways, tax loopholes and tax-cuts for their wealthy campaign contributors while gutting programs for working families.
With gas prices on the rise, Big Oil is enjoying record profits. In fact, the recently retired CEO of Exxon-Mobile, Lee Raymond, received over $500 million in compensation. How is that fair? How is that morally defensible? Yet, you will see Congressional Republicans and their right wing friends in the media defending these types of policies every day of the week.
Well, I’ve had enough and I think you have too. That is why I am writing to you today. My friends at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) are fighting to win the Democratic majority this November and they urgently need your help. They have set a May fundraising goal of $150,000 to support their candidates – can they depend on your help?
Please rush a generous gift of $25, $50 or even $100 to the DCCC right now and help elect a Democratic majority to U.S. House of Representatives.
Have you ever had to choose between paying for your prescription medicine or paying your rent or mortgage? How about fixing the car to get to work or taking your uninsured sick child to the doctor? Or, filling up your gas tank verses buying groceries?
Millions of hard working Americans are facing choices like these every single day. And if you are fortunate enough not to be among them, you would be surprised how many of your friends, neighbors and co-workers are.
And, despite the happy talk about the economy, the middle class squeeze will only get worse as long as Republicans control Congress. Only a Democratic Majority in Congress will bring solutions to our families so that we no longer can barely afford to drive ourselves to work each day, or to keep our children happy and healthy. It’s time to put Americans first and we can do that with a Democratic Majority.
Please rush a generous gift of $25, $50 or even $100 to the DCCC right now and help elect a Democratic majority to U.S. House of Representatives.
The DCCC is the only organization dedicated solely to electing Democrats to the House. They can provide more direct resources to individual Democratic candidates for Congress than any other organization. The staff of the DCCC is focused on winning a Democratic Majority in the November elections and their relentless work is beginning to pay off.
Across the country, Democrats are on the march, promoting our message of change and successfully challenging Republicans in districts they assumed were safe. The corrupt practices and failed policies of Congressional Republicans have left Republican incumbents vulnerable and Americans clamoring for a new agenda.
With your help, Democrats will win the 15 seats we need to win a Democratic majority in the House and provide principled leadership that will fight for all Americans, not just the rich and well connected.
Please rush a generous gift of $25, $50 or even $100 to the DCCC right now and help elect a Democratic majority to U.S. House of Representatives.
Today in America 37 million of your fellow Americans live below the poverty line. Today in America more than 46 million Americans have no health insurance. Today in America you can work full time for the minimum wage and make less than $11,000 a year.
How is that even remotely acceptable to the rest of us? How can our President stand up at a dinner in New York City and, in a rare moment of candor, tell his well fed and elegantly dressed guests that they are known by the general public as the “haves and have mores;” Bush refers to them as his “base.”
We will never be one America as long as our leaders find humor in the outrageous disparity in wealth, which has grown dramatically under Republican leadership, between the elites that form the “base” of the Republican Party and the rest of America.
For too long, the Republicans have been able to get away with dividing our country and it is time for this to all come to an end.
And we need you with us if we are to prevail. We need you to stand up with your fellow Democrats and say enough is enough!
Please rush a generous gift of $25, $50 or even $100 to the DCCC right now and help elect a Democratic majority to U.S. House of Representatives.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and for helping the DCCC restore a Democratic majority to Congress.
Sincerely,
John Edwards
P.S. My friends at the DCCC are fighting to win the Democratic majority this November and they urgently need your help. I hope that I can count on you. Please rush a generous gift of $25, $50 or even $100 to the DCCC right now and help put Democrats back in charge of Congress.
The first election in Pima County since Proposition 200 passed two years ago caused some confusion at polling places Tuesday. The law requiring voters to show ID before they could vote, approved by voters in 2004, resulted in an undetermined number of people having to cast provisional ballots, which require additional verification before they can be counted, said Brad Nelson, Pima County elections director.
Is a state death certificate acceptable ID?
Gee, can you imagine the contempt Republicans would heap upon a Democratic president and Democratic Congress if:
(a) the went from a budget surplus to 300 million plus dollar annual deficits within six years of the President taking office,
(b) the President got the U.S. involved in a foreign war (in the middle east, no less) with very little foreign support, and with no exit strategy,
(c) appointed incompetent hacks to administer federal disaster programs leading to a very public disply of inneptness during the destruction of a major American city, causing additional suffering and loss of life;
(d) if there was a major terrorist attack on America “on his watch”;
(e) there was major outsourcing of U.S. middle-class jobs during his administration;
(f) members of his administration leaked classified data to the press to embarrass critics, and
(g) he embarked on a historic agenda to expand the reach of the federal government into the private lives of Americans, including requiring databases of our phone calls, listening in to any phone calls we make overseas, and compiling databases of all our calling history,
(h) maintained military jails where people could be detained for years without even being identified or given the right to any judicial review of that confinement, entirely upon the whim of the President and his appointed officials;
(i) the Congress and its aids found itself investigated (with some indicted) on charges related to bribary and influence peddling with some lobbyist scum.
But because it is a Republican President, and a Republican Congress, all of this is okay? Be honest now – if a Democrat was in child, you would be out with blazing torches and pitchforks, ready to crucify the devil, wouldn’t you?
Good day, dudes and dudesses (dudettes would have been slightly better) in the words of our fearless, dumb as an ox (I really don’t mean to insult oxen everywhere) leader. Each day we inch closer to a return of the Democratic party to lead us out of the abyss that the RightWingNuts have flung us into.
I can’t wait for the November mid-term elections.
Cyniclown, this post is not about you. Richard Pope, it is not about you either.
As for the troops on the border plan: I am a new/returning resident of Southern California, having moved back here 10 days ago from Seattle. I was gone twenty-some years. What I see is a population of Latinos who, for the most part are willing to do the jobs that we “natural born” (White) Americans refuse to do because we are spoiled.
To be sure, there are bad apples in every group, but they represent a very small percentage of the immigrant population. What I see is that these people provide a very important part of our economy. However out of fear of being harassed, they often put up with illegal working conditions and substandard pay.
Neither of the presidents solutions will work. When did we become a nation of armed borders? I suppose this is a result of the terrorist threat and is obviously Bill Clinton’s fault. We need a solution that will both legitimize the workers already here and allow those wishing to come and work a streamlined process to do so.
As for the RightWingNuts who want to point out the strain on the Social Services program..I, for one, would support relocating those individuals who abuse the system. Bringing the immigrant issue into the open will go a long way to relieving the problem. And then we can work on the French-Canadian problem. These people drive willy-nilly back and forth across the border and I am weary of it.
“if a Democrat was in child, you would be out with blazing torches and pitchforks, ready to crucify the devil, wouldn’t you? ”
Where did that come from? Obviously, it should have read:
“if a Democrat was in CHARGE, you would be out with blazing torches and pitchforks, ready to crucify the devil, wouldn’t you?”
A laborer who raped and murdered a suburban homemaker in her bedroom after being hired to clean a backyard deck was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the chance of parole.
The sentencing came on what would have been the 13th wedding anniversary of the victim, Mary Nagle, and her husband, Daniel.
Douglas Herrera Castellanos “beat, cut, raped, sodomized and strangled the greatest love of my life and the mother of my two children,” Daniel Nagle told the judge at the hearing.
Nagle said he and his children had visited Mary Nagle’s grave on Mother’s Day. He told the judge his 7-year-old son, Chris, asked: “Will we ever be OK? Will we ever be normal? Will we learn to live with only the three of us?”
State Supreme Court Justice William Kelly sentenced Herrera to life without parole plus 124 years, saying he wanted to guarantee that Herrera “will never have the chance” to commit another crime.
The April 2005 slaying of the 42-year-old mother drew wide attention because the attacker allegedly used her cell phone afterward to brag about the crime to her relatives. Five women said they received calls from a man with a Spanish accent who spoke lewdly about what had happened to Mary Nagle.
Herrera, 30, a Guatemalan immigrant whose visa expired five years ago, had Mary Nagle’s cell phone with him when he was arrested. He was convicted last month of rape and first-degree murder.
Herrera was working for a house-painting contractor and had been assigned to power-wash the Nagles’ backyard deck. He testified that he had partied on beer and cocaine the night before and did not remember entering the house or killing the woman. However, he said, he did recall waking up next to her bloody body. If you’re a fan of unbridled arrogance you’re going to love this one. It would seem that the government of Mexico is threatening lawsuits. Yup .. you got it right. Lawsuits. Mexico’s Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez has said that if the Mexican government sees that our National Guard is starting to detain people … he means Mexicans, of course … thus preventing them from entering our country illegally … then the government of Mexico will start filing lawsuits. […………………………………………………………………………..The Democrat Law Firm of Silverstein, Lowenstein, Goldberg, and Loeb is standing at the ready to file lots of civil suits!!! [40% to the firm of course!]

Dear REP Pat Kennedy [D-Bitchslap the Black Security Guard At LAX],
Using your logic, all RightWingNut (Republican) members of congress should immediately resign. Since DeLay and Cunningham are criminals (one convicted, the other soon to be) no RightWingNut should be allowed to hold office. In fact, lets just hang the lot of them. Save money on trials and spare us from knowing just exactly how corrupt they really are. (I already know too much and it makes me queasy).
JCH @ 19:
Don’t confuse your fantasy of me being your “Sugar Daddy” with exposing you for what you are; a liar.
To let a lie, or a liar, go unchallenged only serves to let the lie or the liar become believable. Like Fox News for instance and Crony McSnowJob the presidential spokes liar.
To be sure, JCH, nobody “asked” you for your opinion. The reason nobody now wants to know your opinion is because we know you’re a LIAR.
We know you LIE because I’m ever vigilant to keep exposing and reminding others about your personal and moral character. Which is right there with Bush and Cheney’s character and poll numbers; in the toilet. Ironically, that’s where pieces of shit belong.
“Herrera, 30, a Guatemalan immigrant whose visa expired five years ago”
Okay JCH, please explain to me what part of Bush’s immigration plan would have prevented this crime from happening in the U.S.? Answer: None. He entered the country legally (apparantly while Bush was President?). He just didn’t leave when he was supposed to (also while Bush was President). Bush’s plan does not provide for tracking down and deporting people in the country illegally, only for prosecuting employers who hire them (but LOTS of loopholes there). Under Bush’s plan, he could have even become a citizen a year or two before he committed the crime!
I guess JCH figures this story is supposed to embarrass Democrats? Like most of his posts, the logic doesn’t work.
So, JCH, tell me, what’s it like being a Penn state grad and “officer and a gentlemen by an act of congress” only to have your character impugned by an enlisted guy with just a high school education?
I mean, what would they say at the “O” club or the officer’s ward room? I’ll tell you, you’d be the fucking laughing stock and the butt of every joke. Like you are here.

OK, JCH, after your “careful consideration of the source” how do you answer the charge of having your character impugned on such a regular basis?
That, of course, is a rhetorical question because we all know why your character is under attack; it’s because you got caught lying. You were outfoxed, outwitted, and intellectually out maneuvered by someone with less of an education than you.
Man, that’s gotta suck. It just goes to prove that it’s not how smart you think you are, but how clever your adversary is in relative comparison.

Goldy, regarding “Voters still prefer Republicans by a comfortable margin when it comes to making arrangements to bring in the hookers.” They would have my vote if they really could manage that, but it seems to me they only managed to do that for their corporate buddies and themselves. News Flash: MONKEYS are able to string together a simple “sentence”, according to research that offers the first evidence that animals might be capable of a key feature of language.
British scientists have discovered that the putty-nosed monkey in Nigeria sometimes communicates by combining sounds into a sequence [ebonics] that has a different meaning from any of its component calls, an ability that was thought to be uniquely human. British scientists noted that the monkeys first sentence was “Mofo GBS is a homo”.
