It’s double the fun on the AM dial, as “The David Goldstein Show” officially expands to two nights a week! Join me tonight from 7PM to 10PM on Newsradio 710-KIRO. I like to go with the flow, so things could change, but here’s what I have lined up for tonight’s show:
7PM: Rail-to-trail or Rail nor Trail? Is King County Executive Ron Sims’ proposal to acquire Burlington Northern’s Renton-Snohomish rail corridor a clever subterfuge to build commuter rail on the line, or a clever subterfuge to kill it? Rail booster (and former Seattle mayoral candidate) Al Runte joins me in the studio to argue for commuter rail now, while Sims’ spokesman Sandeep Kaushik calls in to defend his boss’s proposal.
8PM: Is the US conducting an illegal war in Iraq? Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame joins me by phone to discuss the case of Lt. Ehren Watada, and the state of the US war in Iraq. Ellsberg is in town to testify at the Citizens Hearing on the Legality of U.S. Actions in Iraq being held this weekend in Tacoma; he is most recently the author of SECRETS: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers.
9PM: TBA
Tune in tonight (or listen to the live stream) and give me a call: 1-877-710-KIRO (5476).
PROGRAM NOTE:
Join me Sunday night at 7PM when I’ll be talking to state Sen. Rosa Franklin about her bill to enact a state income tax.

“The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use,” said Markey, who cited Transportation Department estimates that showed the two-month extension would save the equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil a day.
“Extending daylight-saving time makes sense, especially with skyrocketing energy costs,” said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., who along with Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., co-sponsored the measure.
This helps the common man so the crickets can go back to sleep and stop chirping. Unless the reinvade the Moonbat!’s ASS!

In 416 B.C., the Athenian-led Delian League, then the dominant navel power of the Hellenic World, was locked in a death struggle with its rival, Sparta, and its Peloponnesian allies. In the wake of the battle of Mantinea, and on the eve of the ill-fated naval expedition to Syracuse, the small island of Melos in the northern Cretan Sea had become an object of strategic concern to Athens which sought to force Melos to join the Delian League and play tribute. The Melians refused and claimed the moral right of a state to remain neutral. “Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals I power.” Answered the Athenians; “The strong do what they wish and the weak suffer what they must.”
One may admire Melian principles and courage, if not strategic acumen. Their heroic stubbornness cost the Melians their existence. The Athenians slaughtered all adult males and sold the women and children into slavery.

Roger these folks tried but lost in the worst way, today they as a people do not exists anywhere in the world. They refused to engage in a war with Athens and their whole nation was vanquish or sold into slavery. Today their gene pool has reappeared in liberals who will let anyone enslave them in FEAR. Today the Athens still lives in these beautiful islands in the Mediterranean Sea, but no Melians can be found on this planet. Roger that city state is the only Nation in history who was pacifies, shed their defenders, and was destroyed for being so naive about the world around them.

Well for a chap who lives in so much FEAR that they can’t, or will not post with their baptize name brings no credence to their outrageous statements. My father fought in War World II on Okinawa and lost many friends defending their fellow soldiers and would never make such as outrageous statement you just made. They lost over 12,000 Americans and they sent to their makers over 100,000 Japanese soldiers. Mr. Facts there was no body bags or coffins to bury the dead and right after that Japan felt the sting of two Atomic bombs that killed people far beyond those that died on Okinawa. The President at that time was Harry S Truman and a member of the Democrat Party, who no one referred to him as a madman. Now you could present a plan on how to win the War on Terrorism that can be implemented today. That might give you some right to make such statements, but you are the one that has an ego that knows no bounds. You don’t quantify as a madman for you are a Socialist Democrat and border line schizophrenic. Now keep flapping your lips and someone will believe you are supporting al Qaida.
OKINAWA, the last major battle of World War II, began on April 1, 1945 and ended June 21, 1945. The American naval forces assembled there were larger than those at Normandy in June, 1944, and more than 12,000 American and 100,000 Japanese soldiers sacrificed their lives. The pivotal importance of the Battle of Okinawa, however, has been overshadowed by controversies surrounding the atomic bombs that exploded two months later. Debates still rage today, questioning the morality and wisdom of that choice. United States President Harry Truman was anxious to end World War II quickly with minimal casualties. The bloodbath at Okinawa helped spur his decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the casualty numbers at Okinawa indicated a projected one million deaths for the planned land invasion of Japan.1 American leaders agreed that they could not sacrifice so many lives; the only viable alternative was the atomic bomb. Winston Churchill’s address to America showed how vital this battle was: “The strength and will power, devotion and technical resources applied by the United States to this task, joined with the death struggle of the enemy…places this battle among the most intense and famous in military history. We make our salute to all…engaged.”2 Okinawa was a critical turning point that essentially ended the war and served as a catalyst for the world-changing decision that followed.

@13 Ah yes, Thucydides’ “Melian Dialogue” — as misrepresented by neocon revisionists like Kagan (http://tinyurl.com/3x2rks) and Hanson (http://tinyurl.com/lwk5d), of whom New Yorker critic Daniel Mendelsohn wrote, “it is Hanson and Kagan who strip away the moral meaning that underpins Thucydides’ account of the war.” Go ahead klake, read Mendelsohn’s piece and see if you understand anything: http://tinyurl.com/36nm7j
Executive summary: Emissaries of Athens urged the inhabitants of the tiny (but strategic) island of Melos (now known as Milos) to be practical and submit to Athenian rule without a fight, but the Melians told the Athenians to go fuck themselves. So the militarily superior (but, as Thucydides makes clear, morally inferior) Athenians slaughtered the males and sold the Melian women and children into slavery. At the time, Athens was run by a “might makes right” crowd (the ancient version of neocons), and soon Athens was weakened by moral rot from within, and done in by her enemies.
Exactly why Flaky Klake is citing The Melian Dialogue in response to my comment,
“When, in the entire history of the world, did anyone NOT try to eject foreign invaders?”
is obscure, as Thucydides’ history of this incident from the Peloponesian War tends to affirm, rather than negate, my thesis: That most (if not all) people will fight off foreign invaders to the last fucking guy able to stand up and throw a spear. Which is exactly what Iraqis are doing, and will continue to do, until hell freezes over or U.S. troops leave their country, whichever occurs first.
Thanks for contributing your literary insights, klake. Need I mention classical literature is out of your element? Thanks for playing.

Roger Rabbit spews:
Let’s review: The U.S. suffered over 500,000 dead in WW2. We fought Japan because they attacked Pearl Harbor, and we fought Germany because they declared war on us. Not much choice there. Not much choice about fighting Al Qaeda, either. But Bushboy is too busy playing tin soldier in Iraq to get around to Al Qaeda:

Now this is funny. Another liberal democratic presidential candidate tells the truth about democrats!
The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) has called on retired Gen. Wesley Clark to apologize for an allegation that “New York money people” are pushing the U.S. for a war with Iran, charging that it’s a slur against Jews.
In a conversation with liberal blogger Arianna Huffington, the former NATO chief — who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 — was quoted as saying that bombing Iran before exhausting diplomatic efforts was “outrageous.”
When he was asked why he was so sure that the United States was headed in that direction, Wesley reportedly replied: “You just have to read what’s in the Israeli press. The Jewish community is divided but there is so much pressure being channeled from the New York money people to the office seekers.”
According to the Jewish publication Forward, “the phrase ‘New York money people’ struck unpleasant chords with many pro-Israel activists. They interpreted it as referring to the Jewish community, which is known for its significant financial donations to political candidates.”
In response to Clark’s comments, the RJC announced the launch of an ad campaign in Jewish newspapers nationwide charging that Clark’s remarks “reinforce dangerous and harmful stereotypes of the Jewish community.”
RJC Executive Director Matthew Brooks said: “That kind of language, based on old stereotypes about Jews, feeds into anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish power. Clark’s remarks were hurtful, damaging, and wrong, and Wesley Clark should apologize to the American Jewish community for saying them.”
Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, told Forward after he spoke to Clark — whose father was Jewish: “He is a friend of Israel and is not an anti-Semite, but some of the things he said are very, very unfortunate.”
Sounds just like Carl the Left Nut. Say anything to look like contrition without being contrite!

Looks like a chink in the Hillary 2008 armor.
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and his family “can’t stand the Clintons” and are backing Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, Newsweek columnist Howard Fineman reports.
Appearing on Don Imus’ radio show on Thursday morning, Fineman — who is also the magazine’s senior editor — said: “Back in 2004, when [Obama] was one of many candidates running in the Democratic primary for the Senate in Illinois, the Daley family backed another candidate.
“Obama understood the decision and the day after the Daleys announced that they were supporting another candidate, [Mayor Daley’s brother] Bill Daley got a very nice hand-written note from Obama saying he completely understood the decision and would probably do the same thing if he was in that position, but hoped they could work together if and when he eventually won the election, which he did . . .
“Now the Daley family is 100 percent behind Obama . . . They have a lot of connections and a lot of skill and that will give him a lot of grounding in traditional politics that he would not have otherwise had.
“And by the way, the Daleys can’t stand the Clintons . . . Obama will run his campaign out of Chicago, which is very smart, and that will help.”
Daley’s support for Obama brings back memories of another strong Chicago mayor playing a major role in a presidential election: In 1960, Daley’s father Richard J. Daley and his Chicago Democratic machine were instrumental in John F. Kennedy’s narrow 8,000-vote victory in Illinois.
A Daley’s backing of a Democratic hopeful worked for JFK — and could work again for Obama.
We, the City of Chicago, will stuff the ballot box to ensure Barack wins the Illinois primary. “Hey Joe, how many votes do we need to manufacture this time?” “9500?” “95000?”

Don Imus publicly backed John Kerry during the 2004 campaign, and Kerry has often appeared on Imus’ show, so I turn it off when he is on. On his show last November, Imus referred to Kerry as “my friend.”
I guess Dennis Kucinich will be after Imus now!

David, talk how this bill was presented as justification to extend tax breaks to development of alternative energy sources. I submit it’s the opposite, a remarkably terrible justification.
1) Why do democrats presume the government is better at investing your potential oil dividends by telling the private sector how to allocate it’s investment capital? As we know from years gone by this is as false as Hillary winning in ’08.
2) Lower the taxes on alternatives research manufacturers. Why tax another industry because it feels good? Your party is the feel good party. Bongs, doobies, capping. Just watch America’s Most Wanted and see your players in action!
3) Haven’t democrats realized taxation economics will INCREASE the price of gas with HR. 6? Your party is the Rainbox Coalition; looking out for the middle class?
4) Won’t HR 6. cause the loss of jobs? The gas price reescalation will hurt the economy, and lay off workers, which you all said was GWB’s doing during 2002 & 2003!

Leno previously received notoriety when he announced after his election that he would enter the Capitol with a “joint in one hand an 18 year old boy in the other.” Leno stated his opposition was due largely because of concerns that the 2000-foot “no-live” zone around schools and parks requirement would be unenforceable, or actually push sex offenders from urban to rural areas. State senate president pro tempore Don Perata (D-Oakland), says the proposition was “thrown together without sufficient care.” However, proponents counter that the text of the law was drafted by skilled attorneys at the California District Attorney’s Association. The initiative passed in every county with the exception of San Francisco.”

Good morning Reckless, and klake. I wish you folks would give up the Rovian, Orwellian, talking points and join the reality crowd. If you prefer to live in fantasy murder is good land, and post your insane ideology rantings here, I will be more than happy to point out your errors as I see them.
I am getting tired of the Rovian talking point, that “if we leave, they will follow us here”.
klake said “Now you could present a plan on how to win the War on Terrorism that can be implemented today.”
Mr. klake you have no idea what is really going on do you? Every time an innocent muslim dies by our hand our enemies get stronger, and us, and our allies get weaker. When a young person (doesn’t have to be a muslim to be apalled at what they see) that may become radicalized against the U.S. or the “West” turns on their TV and sees the corpses of the innocent killed by our illegal invasion of Iraq piled up, or lined up, or pictures of Abu Gharib they only hate us more.
As far as a plan to win “The War On Terror” as Rove puts it, maybe if we went after, and killed terrorists, instead of causing the deaths of innocent muslims, we may have a chance.
We will all agree that there are people that hate the U.S. What we don’t agree on, and is obvious, is the fact that our invasion of Iraq has only made matters far, far, far, far worse. All a radical recruiter has to do is show the Abu Gharib dogpile picture to angry young muslims, and they are instantly recruited. Thanks to “W” Al Queda is now a thousand splinter “Al Queda like” groups, and the list is growing faster than you can imagine.
If we went after terrorists, with all the help the world’s nations were once willing to offer, instead of invading Iraq, where there was no Al Queda, the “War on Terror” would be over by now, and the few radicals left would be being hunted like common criminals worldwide. We would also have the 2 Trillion Dollars this fiasco in Iraq will cost to spend tracking them down, and infiltrating their groups, while doing things to make muslims hate us less. Taking actions to make them hate us less would take an intelligent strategy, and diplomacy, something The Bush Crime Family could never be accused of implementing.
How about a little reality to go with your morning coffee wingnuts?

It appears the only thing Bush was worried about was his tough talk rhetoric to get his criminal GOP friends, and himself elected, and the looting of the Iraqis oil, and our treasury for the benefit of his buddies.
Every single person who dies a violent death in Iraq is dead because of Bush, and the delusional traitors that supported, and continue to support his madness. Since Bush represents us (sic) that makes you and I responsible for their deaths. Every single one. Whether they are killed by our bombs, or their ancient enemies, their blood is on our hands.
There is a difference between us killing them / causing their deaths, and Saddam killing them. I am no Saddam fan, but he was only in power because we supported him for years, and for a couple pennies a share in the profits of oil companies.
As far as us not being attacked, I am grateful to all the folks working to protect me.
I just wonder if it is because we removed our troops from Saudi Arabia as Bin Laden requested…. We will probably never know. One thing is for certain. Hatred of the United States worldwide has never been higher, and with the retarded, threatening, finger wagging chimp in charge, I don’t see things getting better. Remember when Clinton left office approval of the U.S. in Indonesia, the most populous muslim country was 85%, and under Bush it went to 15%, according to Pew Research.

Honesty is not your best policy huh?
Whenever you’re ready I’ll debate you.
——————-
I have no idea how many have been needlessly killed by our invasion. Our military does not count corpses. I don’t trust a word our military leadership says, or the Iraqi leadership either.
One thing is for sure.
All the people filling all those graves are not terrorists, regardless what the rhetoric coming from the “Conservative Controlled” press says.
I fear America may never recover from the damage Republicon control has amassed. Trillions in debt, and not a thing to show for it. Hatred for America worldwide burning hot. A military stretched to it’s limit policing a 3rd world country. The Taliban controlling large portions of Afghanistan because we did not have the resources to properly rebuild that country, and try to bring them out of the opium / stone age. The Chinese developing the technology to shoot down our satellites, and now, since we would not negotiate, we need to spend billions / trillions defending space when we could have used the money elsewhere. Iran and North Korea developing nukes, and we don’t have enough credibility worldwide to find friends to help us do anything about it.
To type all the failures of the Bush Administration, and the damage Repiblicon control has caused would take me the rest of my life, and frankly I don’t have the time.
Let’s do this the easy way.
Reckless, name something Bush has done right. I can only think of one thing, and don’t say Afghanistan either. It started ok, but is now deteriorating at an alarming rate.

Sgmmac already disporved this dumb comment!
Hatred of the United States worldwide has never been higher
So we should take our money away from Indonesia, Jordan, Egypt, etc. since they “hate” us?

FACTS: I used the UN number. They went to all the hospitals and polled them.
Puddy already named one thing Bush did right.
So I can name one: When 9/11 occurred he tried to bring the country together. That was right. The fringies said no way can we support this! the 11% of the fringies party disproved his announcement on the rubble of “And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”
It spiraled down from there. I remember reading posts regarding Tom Daschle speeches in Feb 2002 which displayed the democratic controlled senate positions on Bush in Afghanistan. I remember a Time mag headine why can’t we just get along in 2002, another slap in the face. I remember the democratic response to Bush’s 2002 state of the union speech where Gephardt brought up all the ills in the Bush budget that were not addressed by Clinton in his eight yrats and how we was against Bush. Why was that the vehicle to discuss those topics?
You see, nothing Bush does meets any critical standard to the fringies. So you can continue to ask that question. It will fall on deaf ears.

WHY DO YOU CHEERFOLLOW FOR MORE DEATH RECKLESS?
I’LL TELL YOU WHY. YOU WANT MORE WAR. YOU LOVE IT. YOU KILL MORE PEOPLE WITH BOMBING AND SIEGES, YOU CREATE MORE TERRORISTS. NO DON’T DO THE HARD, PATIENT WORK OF COORDINATING ALLIES TO BREAK UP TERRORIST CELLS AND TRACK THEIR NETWORKS. NO PREVENTATIVE MEASURES DON’T WORK ACCORDING TO THE WINGNUT.
JUST “OPEN A FRONT”, INVADE A COUNTRY AND LIE ABOUT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT (THE OIL), CUT TAXES ON THE RICH, IGNORE PRESSING DOMESTIC NEEDS – JUST WAR, WAR AND MORE WAR. ANOTHER MULTI-GENERATIONAL WAR.
YOU WAR-LOVING FREAKS MAKE ME SICK.

You repeat yourself. You have nothing new. In Bill’s O’Reilly’s world you have nothing “pithy” to say! How many times are you going to post November 7th? How many times are you going to accuse any political adversary of supporting Jack Abramoff or Randy Cunningham when there is no SHRED OF EVIDENCE I ever wrote it on this blog?

#58 Reckless, give me a break. I never implied our troops kill innocent Iraqis on purpose, except for a few that have snapped (see Haditha). I would not want their job, rolling around being targets, waiting for the next ied to blow my arms and legs off. I also admit some Democrats mistakenly voted to authorize the use of force when Bush said he would only use force as a last resort, and if necessary. I guess they are supposed to know when he is lying, and when he is not right?
As far as stopping aid to muslim nations that are not oil rich, how do you think the world works? We use our $$ and power to corrupt leaders worldwide, so our corporations can profit all they can off their people, and the ruling class that actually run this planet keep their wealth piling up. From what I understand the money we promised Egypt, and pay them yearly, was to pay for their peace deal with Israel, which seems to be working. Ransom. I may be wrong, but that sure is how it appears.
The answers to our problems are far more complex than using our $$ to prop up friendly regimes that deny rights to their people. In fact this $$ sometimes works against Americans as a whole, and only helps a few movers, and shakers, with huge amounts of influence in our government make extra money (see Saudi Arabia).
Ya ever heard of the Military Industrial Complex Reckless? If all threats were lessened, then these companies, with huge amounts of “control of our government” would lose money, because no-one would need their unneeded weapons. We can’t have that now can we? Why should we build dikes around New Orleans when we can buy stealth bombers that cost 2 billion dollars apiece right? Can you imagine some 15 year old kid taking out a Stealth Bomber with a shoulder fired rocket some day? Imagine how hard the military would try to cover that up…..
Why should we use tax money to develop technologies that give us energy independence, when we can buy weapons, and just take the oil anyway? Who cares what them Ayrabs think right?
If you wonder how them Ayrabs really think, just visit the World Trade Center. Oops I forgot. It is not there anymore….

Roger nice statement but you distorted facts just to present you warp point of view. Nobody in this country wants to expended a half million lives just to defeat an enemy. Not the Democrats in World War two or the Republicans today in Iraq. Your friends voted for the war in Iraq and they can’t claim they didn’t know what they were getting into. Please they are not that stupid and what a poor copout just to gain power. Roger you need to get another opinion about DSPS because the symptoms could be a tied to your bad behavior.

The solutions to our, and the world’s problems will take real leadership, thoughtful policies, and intelligent planning.
These 3 things are completely beyond the capability of our current leader in the white house. All he can do is call people “evil” and try to scare them. It is the only tool in his tool box. What do you expect from a retard who can’t even complete a sentence while reading a teleprompter……
Facts Support My Positions spews:
What is even worse is the fact that the entire Republicon Party followed his lead unquestioningly to where we are today. Without allies, bankrupt, with an overstretched military, and facing problems a thousand times more threatening than Saddam ever was.
The same lemmings that blindly followed Bush claim Democrats have no ideas. That statement makes the reality based people laugh till they puke.
Now we have 2 options in Iraq. Devastating, and Catastrophic.

So let’s talk about “sets” ok. While Bush had his daddy get him a spot in the champagne unit of the Texas Air National Guard, John Kerry jumped off a swift boat, and chased down a dude in the jungles of Vietnam with a RPG, and killed him.
To think AWOL Bush, or Deferment Dick Cheney had more balls than Kerry, would take someone more out of touch with reality than anyone I have ever met.
By the way, why did they have to destroy Bush’s military records anyway? You know they were in triplicate, and destroying them would have taken an extreme effort, and a lot of pull…. I wonder what he had to hide….. I would assume it was plenty. If his records were something to be proud of, wouldn’t you think they would have been used for campaigning?
Please put up comments that are not so easily dis-proven.
Facts Support My Positions spews:
I seem to forget Reckless, what medals were Bush, and Cheney awarded with for defending their country?
I seem to forget the names on those medals?
Medal for desertion? Medal for deferment? Medal for using daddy’s influence to move ahead of thousands of more qualified recruits for a choice Texas Air National Guard Spot? Medal for avoiding conflict? Medal for avoiding actually having to fight in Vietnam? Medal for the ability to remain stateside?
I would just like to know the name of the soldiers that went to Vietnam in Bush’s, or Cheney’s place….. Maybe I could read their names on the wall of the Vietnam War Memorial.
You know, half those names were created after the commanders knew the war was un-winnable, and their leaders were just trying to play politics, and save their careers, and their legacy.
Truly I think Nixon’s legacy will far better than Bush’s…..

I read here less & less frequently because they are so stupidly, incessantly boring & useless. There is no part of their psychotic ranting that even causes the reader to have a thought or consider a position or analyze an opinion. Perhaps Goldy should consider a “smite” button & simply obliterate posts by these escapees from Western State Hospital. Then other folks could enjoy threads of intelligent discussion about Goldy’s topics & the daily news of interest.
The wingnutz ridiculous horseshit isn’t even entertaining.
