Maria Cantwell is not meeting the moment when it comes to Trump’s nominees. Not sure if she thinks she will be able to work with them or other nominees would be worse. Or if she thinks they’re greal. But Trump is filling his cabinet and other senior staff with cruel jerks. They deserve to be voted down. If you want to call her, it’s business hours in DC and will be in her local offices soon. You may get an intern or a voicemail. Here’s a quick script.

Hi,

My name is [name] from [city/town in WA]. I am calling because I am disappointed in how many Trump nominees Senator Cantwell has voted for. [I am particularly disappointed with X because of Y, Scott Bessent after handing over the key to Treasury to those weirdos at DOGE, for example.] I hope you will reject more of his terrible nominees going forward.

Thank you for your time,

[Name]

Read it out loud and make it your own before calling, but please do call today.

Something even more productive that a “mildly concerned citizen” might do is reach out to their Governor and ask that they explain why they are operating and supporting a clearing house for law enforcement intelligence used by DHS and ICE to coordinate and plan unlawful kidnapping of your fellow citizens.

    https://wsfc.wa.gov/

While you are visiting the website for the Seattle FUSION center used by ICE to plan and coordinate kidnapping, as a “mildly concerned citizen” you can also report terrorist activity.

    https://wsfc.wa.gov/Report

A reasonable person with knowledge of heavily armed military age males wearing blackout fatigues, body armor, and masks, traveling around in unmarked vans, breaking into homes and businesses, grabbing US citizens, and renditioning them to black sites in El Salvador might conclude that these could be reportable terrorist activities.
They might even conclude that a few hundred thousand times. They might even opt to be very proactive about it and ask an AI to write a java script to populate that online form with entries and submit them over and over and over again forever.

    SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.

Later on today, when some dipshit pesters you to notice that some federal judge somewhere has issued an order pausing some horribly unconstitutional thing being done to America by Republican Nazis, just remember this:

THEY HAVE NOT PAUSED JACK SHIT.

All the orders are still in effect. People are being kidnapped and flown to Gitmo. People are having their citizenship cancelled. Vital US agencies are being gutted and broken. And nothing meaningful has been done to stop any of it except papers being signed and published. That’s it.

Trump and congressional Republicans may no longer be pushing to wholly repeal Obamacare, but big cuts to the nation’s health system are still on the table.

Dictators are welcome, protesters are not. Don’t forget what they did to Colin Kaepernick, too. The NFL is a backward, reactionary, repressive organization.

I’m not saying the guy shouldn’t be sanctioned. Sure, don’t hire him for a halftime show again. And ban him from NFL stadiums for a year or two. But a lifetime ban for waving a flag? That’s gross overkill.

The NFL is trying to send a message that speech is tightly controlled at NFL stadiums (which are paid for by taxpayers), and they have a gulag waiting for anyone who steps out of line. Very Stalinist.

Or maybe they’re just spineless cowards who are scared shitless that Trump will somehow punish them if they don’t take drastic action against any insult to his dignity.

@13 Actually it’s three. They get one for each senator, plus one for their representative.

If we annex Canada, making it “a state” doesn’t make sense. Canada is already broken up into provinces and territories, and each province should be a separate state.

That’s 10 states and 3 territories, or 13 states if you count the territories as states. That’s 26 senators, and probably all of them would be Democrats.

Even if Canada and its territories are a single state, and Greenland is another state, that’s 4 Democratic senators. Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico would make it 8 Democratic senators.

Somehow I don’t think Trump has fully thought this through.

America is running a massive budget deficit, and Trump has said the tariffs will make up for lost revenue — in particular, his 2017 tax cuts, which he has said he wants to extend and expand. In a keynote address to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum last month, Trump predicted that his tariffs would bring in hundreds of billions of dollars — perhaps trillions of dollars — into the US Treasury.

    https://www.aol.com/finance/method-behind-trump-tariff-madness-160635463.html

Tariffs are still a tax paid by Americans. All substituting tariffs for income taxes does is shift the tax burden from the billionaires in Trump’s cabinet to his grassroots supporters, which is fine by me.

Vice President JD Vance, Elon Musk and others in the Trump administration are openly challenging the centuries-old power of the nation’s judiciary, foreshadowing a possible constitutional breakdown of American government. It’s not simply that the new administration has flouted a raft of federal statutes and prompted a flood of legal challenges. It’s that some of Donald Trump’s top advisers have cast doubt on whether rulings on those lawsuits would even constrain the president. There are signs that some judges’ orders have been disregarded.

    https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/10/politics/constitutional-crisis-trump-overhaul-analysis-biskupic/index.html

The chief justice could put a stop to this right now by revisiting the 14th Amendment, Section 3, stating

    Section 3

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

because this is rebellion against the Constitution of the United States. If he won’t let states disqualify Trump and Vance, then the court should do it.

    20,

They are ALL being actively disregarded.

Rest assured this is being done without Fat Hitler or Queen Elonia commanding it. But to please them nevertheless.

The reason people are discussing the disregard of the judicial branch is because that’s what they are observing.

The time for debating “balance of power” Constitutional remedies has come to an end. That feature of our Republic has been eliminated by the Republican Party after the American voters handed them the power to do it.

Face facts. Sooner is better under circumstances such as these.

And again, ask yourself why is your Democratic Governor in any way participating in a federal system that simply no longer exists?

By the way, the Lear belongs to Motley Crue lead vocalist Vince Neil, but his publicist said he wasn’t on board.

This is a maintenance issue, not something you can blame on ATC understaffing or the DOT. Over time, Musk’s machete-wielding and/or Sean’s management may compromise aviation safety, but I don’t think this accident falls in that category. Its timing is just a weird coincidence.

@58 Domestic steel is more expensive. That’s why it needs tariff protection to compete. More expensive steel will make products made from it (e.g. cars) more expensive. What happens to demand when prices go up? Demand goes down. What happens to jobs when demand for the products workers make goes down? They get laid off.

That’s not the flex you think it is. Tweets are like mainlining a headline without taking in the article.

Kyiv may consider swapping seized Russian territory for occupied lands of Ukraine, Zelenskyy says
His claims come as Ukrainian forces expand their control in the Russian region, recently capturing villages near Sudzha.

“We will swap one territory for another. I don’t know, we will see. But all our territories are important, there is no priority,” Zelensky stated, though not specifying which Ukrainian territory, temporarily occupied by Russia, Kyiv would request in return.

Zelenskyy explained that he would offer Moscow Kursk Oblast, currently under Ukrainian control, in exchange for temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, should US President Donald Trump facilitate Russia’s involvement in the talks.

@70 Her allegations are disputed, dumbfuck.

South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace delivered a shocking speech in the House of Representatives on Monday evening in which she accused her ex-fiance Patrick Bryant and three of his business associates of engaging in sex crimes. …

Bryant, a Charleston-based entrepreneur, co-founder of the software development firm Code/ /Trust and previously a chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, responded to Mace’s allegations by telling the Associated Press: “I categorically deny these allegations. “I take this matter seriously and will cooperate fully with any necessary legal processes to clear my name.”

They’re also libel per se; and in a defamation lawsuit, she would have the burden of proving a truth defense.

So to get around that, she airs her personal grievances on the floor of the House of Representatives, wrapping them in a fake “legislative purpose” cloak, in order to shield herself from libel law by hiding behind congressional “speech and debate” immunity.

If what she said is true, and she has proof, she wouldn’t need immunity. Or to use Congress as a platform to shout angry accusations at her former bed partner.

She’d better get used to the single life, because I think she just ensured she’s never going to have another boyfriend for the rest of her life. No man will have anything to do with her after this.

HA Commenting Policy

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
