Maria Cantwell is not meeting the moment when it comes to Trump’s nominees. Not sure if she thinks she will be able to work with them or other nominees would be worse. Or if she thinks they’re greal. But Trump is filling his cabinet and other senior staff with cruel jerks. They deserve to be voted down. If you want to call her, it’s business hours in DC and will be in her local offices soon. You may get an intern or a voicemail. Here’s a quick script.

    Something even more productive that a “mildly concerned citizen” might do is reach out to their Governor and ask that they explain why they are operating and supporting a clearing house for law enforcement intelligence used by DHS and ICE to coordinate and plan unlawful kidnapping of your fellow citizens.

    A reasonable person with knowledge of heavily armed military age males wearing blackout fatigues, body armor, and masks, traveling around in unmarked vans, breaking into homes and businesses, grabbing US citizens, and renditioning them to black sites in El Salvador might conclude that these could be reportable terrorist activities.

    THEY HAVE NOT PAUSED JACK SHIT.

    All the orders are still in effect. People are being kidnapped and flown to Gitmo. People are having their citizenship cancelled. Vital US agencies are being gutted and broken. And nothing meaningful has been done to stop any of it except papers being signed and published. That’s it.

    Dictators are welcome, protesters are not. Don’t forget what they did to Colin Kaepernick, too. The NFL is a backward, reactionary, repressive organization.

    I’m not saying the guy shouldn’t be sanctioned. Sure, don’t hire him for a halftime show again. And ban him from NFL stadiums for a year or two. But a lifetime ban for waving a flag? That’s gross overkill.

    The NFL is trying to send a message that speech is tightly controlled at NFL stadiums (which are paid for by taxpayers), and they have a gulag waiting for anyone who steps out of line. Very Stalinist.

    @13 Actually it’s three. They get one for each senator, plus one for their representative.

    If we annex Canada, making it “a state” doesn’t make sense. Canada is already broken up into provinces and territories, and each province should be a separate state.

    That’s 10 states and 3 territories, or 13 states if you count the territories as states. That’s 26 senators, and probably all of them would be Democrats.

    Even if Canada and its territories are a single state, and Greenland is another state, that’s 4 Democratic senators. Statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico would make it 8 Democratic senators.

    Somehow I don’t think Trump has fully thought this through.

    Tariffs are still a tax paid by Americans. All substituting tariffs for income taxes does is shift the tax burden from the billionaires in Trump’s cabinet to his grassroots supporters, which is fine by me.

    The chief justice could put a stop to this right now by revisiting the 14th Amendment, Section 3, stating

But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

    because this is rebellion against the Constitution of the United States. If he won’t let states disqualify Trump and Vance, then the court should do it.

    The reason people are discussing the disregard of the judicial branch is because that’s what they are observing.

    The time for debating “balance of power” Constitutional remedies has come to an end. That feature of our Republic has been eliminated by the Republican Party after the American voters handed them the power to do it.

    Face facts. Sooner is better under circumstances such as these.

    And again, ask yourself why is your Democratic Governor in any way participating in a federal system that simply no longer exists?

    @36 You know, I was just reading about yesterday’s accident in Scottsdale, and thinking the same thing you are, until I read that the Learjet’s landing gear collapsed on touchdown and that caused the plane to veer off the runway into the Gulfstream.

    By the way, the Lear belongs to Motley Crue lead vocalist Vince Neil, but his publicist said he wasn’t on board.

    This is a maintenance issue, not something you can blame on ATC understaffing or the DOT. Over time, Musk’s machete-wielding and/or Sean’s management may compromise aviation safety, but I don’t think this accident falls in that category. Its timing is just a weird coincidence.

    The accident investigation could be a different story, though. Have all the competent FAA accident investigators been fired and replaced by Liberty University interns yet?
