I have to agree with you that especially as he’s grown older, Billy Graham seems to really have it figured out. His sermons in recent years have been beautiful exhortations to recognize ourselves to reflect the love of the God who created us. I think the same thing can be said for the Schullers.
And while we’re talking about preaching sermons, Ron certainly didn’t forget what he learned about that when he put on his politician’s hat, did he?
Billy Graham is a model Christian (as well as a Democrat). While I have theological differences with him, it’s hard to imagine someone who has tried to follow the Gospel’s teachings more than him. If only the evangelical community here in the US had followed him rather than blowhards like Falwell, Dobson, and Robertson . . .

After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.
The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.
In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

Speaking of missions, Kaiser Permanente just paid a fine for putting a confused, elderly hospital patient in a taxi with instructions to the driver to dump her on the doorstep of Union Gospel Mission. She was found wandering the crime-infested neighborhood surrounding the mission. Why did they do this to her? Because she was penniless — couldn’t pay her hospital bill.
Another miserable failure of self-interest-driven capitalism.

A Lake Stevens high school teacher is on leave while the district investigates a remark he made to a class.
A parent complained that the teacher, Gary McDonald, told students Monday he would take anyone talking in class and line them up against a wall and shoot them.

@15 Puddy, the media reported the guy is an atheist. He had no right to use a public school classroom to promote his personal theological views, or to questions others’. The “shooting” remark was abusive and completely out of line.
One wonders why he remained a teacher long enough to be eligible for retirement. The answer probably is that he was a good teacher for a long time and something just fell apart in his mental state that caused a collapse of judgment. Perhaps he was tired and burned out by the stress of teaching. Maybe something stressful happened in his personal life. Bad things happen to good people that turns them into clumsy fools. On the other hand, maybe he was an ass all along, one of those teachers that gets shuttled from classroom to classroom, like a pedophile priest gets rotated between parishes, because nobody had the cajones to get rid of him. I don’t know.
In any case, it is time for this individual to leave the teaching profession, and that shouldn’t wait until June. Hopefully, he has seen the inside of a classroom for the last time.
