    I don’t give a fuck what kind of cars people choose to drive or where people choose to live. I do car that the CAFE Standard for cars over all goes up, way up, and that communities become denser and more easily gotten around in with out a car.

    Fewer cars on the roads means less congestion for people who still choose to drive. I’ve never understood why the die hard drivers don’t understand this.

    If you want to live on a ¼ acre in a gated community in the ‘burbs and drive a gas hog you should be free to do so. I’ll I ask is that I not subsidize that choice to a greater degree than we subsidize other peoples choices and right now that’s not the case.

    Personally, I’m more into the late 60 Porsche 911’s. I used to have a ’67 Mustang. Once you put a blower on a 289 it I’ll get up and run.

    Look….Dick Spady ostensibly is a pretty conservative dude. For years he’s provided people who work at his burger joints a pretty decent deal including medical coverage and educational subsidies. For this, my hat’s off to him and will remain so.

    I sometimes find myself playing “What if…” games. One of these involves wondering what if the Koch brothers put all the money they blow on political finagling into philanthropy more directed at the common good, in addition to the comparatively smaller amount they actually do throw at worthwhile causes. (Disclaimer: I’m seeing my urologist next week because of a PSA test that came out positive.) Might that actually be more effective at “shrinking government” by reducing some of the burden for social services that falls by default on Uncle Sam?

    @77 A positive PSA test is no big deal. It doesn’t mean you have cancer. An enlarged prostate — which virtually all men eventually get — by itself produces a positive PSA. If your urologist wants to do a prostate biopsy, that’s no big deal, either. I’ve had one. Piece of cake. Most prostate biopsies come up with zip, nada, nothing. If you’re over 60 and your PSA isn’t positive the lab equipment is probably broken. But even if you do have prostate cancer, it grows so slowly most doctors don’t even bother to treat it, because old age will kill you long before the cancer does.

    Awesome car. I’ve never even been to New Mexico but the rust-free cars I’ve found in Colorado and SW Utah were amazing. If I were to restore a car, I’d look for it someplace like that. Finding a rust-free car eliminates a lot of headaches with the restoration.

    Of course, I’d restore on old XK Jag, not a Barracuda. That was my first car, a restored-by-myself XK-120. I’d love to have another XK. Win the Mega Millions? A C-Type! Heh. Yeah, sure, you’d smoke in the straight-aways and I’d hear all about it later, but as soon as we hit a couple of turns, you’d see what a fucking Jag can do and why they dominated Ferraris and everybody else at Le Mans in their day.
