    Roger Rabbit Commentary: Like every other rightwing commenter on SP, Jeff B. takes Zimmerman’s self-serving story at face value and bases his argument on the unproven assumption that Martin attacked Zimmerman, not the other way around.

    Relying on that assumption, he sees Zimmerman as the victim — even though it was Zimmerman who (1) initiated the confrontation, (2) is the guy who brought the gun to the confrontation, (3) is the guy who did the shooting, and (4) is the guy who suffered at most superficial injury while the other guy is dead. How does any of this make Zimmerman a victim?

    I’ll tell you how. Because Zimmerman is white. What the right sees in this whole case is White Victimhood. Zimmerman is being demonized by the “liberal media”, not because he killed an unarmed black teenager, but because he is white. The fact that a 17-year-old is dead has nothing to do with it. Liberals, the media, Obama — they’re all out to get George Zimmerman because he’s white.

    That’s how conservatives see the world.

    The world has seen this mentality before.

    You get this exact same sense of victimhood from reading Barbara Tuchman’s “The Guns of August.”

    When the Germans marched their armies through neutral Belgium in August 1914, shooting civilian hostages and burning villages as they went, it was all the fault of the Belgians because, um, the Belgian Army had the temerity to resist the German invasion of their country.

    I’m not kidding, the Germans blamed the Belgians for the atrocities they themselves committed. That’s a historical fact. The conservatives blaming Martin for getting shot by Zimmerman would feel right at home in the Kaiser’s propaganda bureau.

    Trayvon Martin didn’t start this confrontation any more than Belgian peasants started World War I. George Zimmerman is no more an innocent victim of violence than was the Kaiser or his troops.

    How, exactly, would Belgium have “walked away” or “defused” (sic; not “diffuse”) that situation? How, exactly, should Trayvon Martin have walked away or defused the situation when he was accosted by Zimmerman?

    What “extra special accomodation” should Belgium have provided to the German invaders? Given the Germans permission to invade them?

    What “extra special accomodation” should George Zimmerman have given Trayvon Martin? How about just leaving him alone?

    I had a minor confrontation with a young black boy/man last evening involving him on foot and me in my vehicle driving home.
    This boy dressed in a “hoodie” (not unlike Trayvon) went out of his way to incite a confrontation with me apparently simply because I am white and middle aged. It was entirely possible that he believed that I was some white liberal clown he could intimidate and easily overcome with an adrenaline rush and sweeping act of bravado. I am not.

    Such stupid behaivor is not necessarily a black thing though; I remember the youthful days of raging angst and arrogant disbelief in my own mortality. But it shocked me to realize how utterly out matched he was and what a foolish thing he did by imitating Trayvon Martin, taunting and daring me to stop and engage his foolishness or run him over. He did this for effect.

    Sure, in a fist fight he might well beat me up and hurt me badly or kill me, but like many who have been around awhile, I am a survivor and not stupid. I don’t look for fights and I don’t lose them by fighting anyone on even terms. The game he played (much like Trayvon) is a dangerous one where a great deal may be lost and nothing valuable may be gained and the odds were stacked so badly against him he had no idea what he was up against.

    Most especially for the sake of confused hormonally addle-pated youths believing in a Black Panther myth of self-righteous racial superiority and ignorant racist payback mentality, I sincerely hope this doesn’t continue. It would be very unwise to assume it will.

    I predict a rash of these retributive confrontations, more black incited violence and more deaths.

    It’s too damned bad. I advise all black boys and men to wise up and look to yourself for solutions to life’s problems. You have a black president now; why hate whites for your problems?
    Become self reliant and quit listening to hate mongering race-pimp blacks like Sharpton, Jackson and others. Vote for conservative people who will open opportunities to you; not offer you hate, slavery, empty freebies, and perpetual poverty.

    I advise all all white boys and men to get a carry permit, carry a loaded handgun, practice using it, profile young black men in hoodies, study your fallback strategies and rules of engagement, and keep your wisest wits about you. This is a serious game of racism and hate they are playing.
    You will gain no peace or safety by pretending it will simply go away.

    Given Obama’s embrace of Trayvon – insofar as he said “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon”, or at least aligning himself with the victim – one has to assume that his people did their homework and knew ahead of time what the nature of the interaction was – who Trayvon was, and what Zimmerman’s past would show.     There are only three streets in the community. One is a circular drive around the perimeter. There is only one street that leads to any entrance/exit and it is a through-street the leads from one of two entrances to the other. The third street is a short connect between the perimeter and the through-street, and nowhere near the incident. After living there and having made over forty 911 calls, Zimmerman didn’t know the name of the street he was on?

    If he was checking the street name and was attacked from behind on his way back to his vehicle, how did Trayvon Martin end up dead at least fifty feet away from the street?

    Roger Rabbit Commentary: Basically this is an article about how the CIA and other intelligence agencies now have safeguards to help prevent a repetition of the Iraq WMD debacle. Why the article bothers to quote a jerk like Bolton is hard to say, because he has nothing to say that’s worth reading. If you want to know what he thinks, go read up on Bismarck, Moltke, and those guys. As for me, I’m glad we now have a president who isn’t looking for an excuse to start a war. Bolton is one of the best arguments I can think of why no Republican should ever be elected president again in Bolton’s lifetime, because the world (and our nation) will be a lot safer if Bolton stays ensconced in his think tank and never again holds any position or office in which he can influence American policy.

    Roger Rabbit Commentary: Bottom line, the only Supreme Court vote that could strike down Obamacare would be a blatantly partisan one that would damage the court’s reputation and undercut numerous precedents created by the conservative majority. BW‘s veteran court-watcher doesn’t think the conservative justices are willing to pay that price.

    Another potential consequence of SCOTUS trashing Obamacare: Many savvy political observers think it would make single-payer inevitable. After all, Medicare has been in effect since 1965, its constitutionality firmly established, and if Obamacare falls its logical replacement is to extend Medicare to everyone.
