It’s ridiculous how a senator from a state which is top 5

Not to mention Joe Manchin’s state is bottom 5 in healthcare, education, infrastructure, economy.. all of which the Biden BBB plan tries to address

How Joe Manchin keeps getting reelected is a puzzle. Racism must be one hell of a drug.

Of course Republican lawmakers are mad, they had to work to get those contracts to their friends and family that promised them kickbacks.

I seem to remember when the impotent, bankrupted, twice impeached, failed reality television actor who hires prostitutes to jerk him off with rubber gloves and his feckless minions initiated THE WALL, angering the American people. They did it anyway.

If conservatives were serious, they would jail EVERYONE who hires an illegal, from CEO to housewife for a year in a for-profit prison. Being felons, they would then lose the right to firearms and vote .

SPD latest “officer of the year” candidate has been found!

SPD Officer Andrei Constantin placed on paid AL today after researchers tied him to a series of sock puppet accounts on social media that he used to harass victims, spread misinformation, and arrange street violence in Seattle. A close follower and associate of BurQa Bob’s favorite Seattle MAGAT, Andy Ngo, Officer Constantin was found to have also provided coordinated intelligence support to NGO and helped him with several documented acts of criminal obstruction.

Total payroll comp in 2020: $175,000

That’s what you all paid him to sit in his patrol car, surf internet porn, exchange chat messages and sexts with his former Las Vegas escort colleagues, and plan street violence with Ngo.

Hot Tip: whatever perceived ills you may feel Seattle is beset by, dudes like this are not going to be a part of any solution. You won’t fix any of it by putting more overpaid degenerate thugs on the street.

As long as you think First Vegetable Joe Biden will look better in December than he does now, this is a weak move by McConnell.

Other notable weak moves by McConnell:

    • preventing the nomination of Merrick Garland from action by the Senate.

    • successfully shepherding the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett through the Senate.

    • enabling this:

More than a quarter of currently active federal judges are now Trump appointees. As of Jan. 13, there were 816 active judges serving across the three main tiers of the federal court system: the Supreme Court, 13 regional appeals courts and 91 district courts governed by Article III of the U.S. Constitution. Trump appointed 28% of those judges. That includes three of the nine sitting Supreme Court justices, 30% of the nation’s active appeals court judges and 27% of active district court judges. (The number of active federal judges changes regularly because of retirements, resignations, new appointments and other reasons.)

Wisconsin law prohibits anyone under age 18 from going armed, but Rittenhouse’s attorneys argued that statutes actually prohibit minors only from carrying short-barreled rifles and shotguns. The only other prohibitions on minors possessing firearms lie in hunting statutes, and all they say is that children under age 12 can’t hunt with firearms, they said.

Schroeder said he might revisit the question later, calling the statutes unclear.

Taliban say they won’t work with US to contain Islamic State

Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen told The Associated Press there would be no cooperation with Washington on containing the increasingly active Islamic State group in Afghanistan.
    …
IS has carried out relentless assaults on the country’s Shiites since emerging in eastern Afghanistan in 2014. It is also seen as the terror group that poses the greatest threat to the United States for its potential to stage attacks on American targets.

The weekend meetings in Doha are the first since U.S. forces withdrew from Afghanistan in late August, ending a 20-year military presence as the Taliban overran the country.

In Virginia, Terry McAuliffe said, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”

Of course he’s right, especially when you’re talking about tea party parents who can’t add 2 + 2, can’t spell their own names, and insist that science classes teach kids the universe is 6,000 years old.

But another problem McConnell, Youngkin, and their ilk overlook is that parents don’t agree on what to teach. Their side gets their way. Always. No matter how many people disagree with them, and even if they’re wrong. Especially when they’re wrong.

So here’s what we should do. Let them take over the schools for a year, but only a year. Their kids will end up either dead or stupid, and all the good jobs will go to our kids.

Governor Abbott, Allen West, a priest, and a hippie were flying by on a regional airline from Houston and Austin when the plane suffered a mechanical problem.

The pilots informed the passengers the situation was hopeless and they were bailing out, and had three more parachutes for the passengers to divide up among themselves.

Governor Abbott said, “I’m the most important man in Texas, so I’m taking one,” and bailed out. West said, “I’m the second most important man in Texas, so I’m taking one, too,” and bailed out.

The priest looked at the hippie and said, “Son, I’m old and you’re young, and maybe you’ll straighten out, so you take the last parachute.”

The hippie replied, “Rest easy, Father, we’re both gonna get out of this. Mr. West just jumped with my knapsack, and he has Covid, so he would have bought it anyway.”

    58,
It’s all in the history of Oregon territorial laws. Even before statehood the territory had race exclusion laws. Those were carried over into statehood in various ways. They basically made it a crime to be black anywhere in the PNW well into the late 19 and early 20th century. Pretty much was an excuse to lynch people on sight. Worked exactly the way the founders intended it to. Black people were basically terrified to travel anywhere even close to Washington or Oregon. And most who did were murdered or driven back out.

It’s all part of that “CRT” stuff that the white parents don’t want their kids knowing about. History hurts their feels.

Section 4. Revocation of Executive Order.
Executive Order 13532 of February 26, 2010 (Promoting Excellence, Innovation, and Sustainability at Historically

And then Biden revoked Trump’s. As well as overrode every EO by earlier presidents that conflicts with Biden’s.

Sec. 4. Administrative Provisions. (a) This order supersedes Executive Order 13779 of February 28, 2017 (White House Initiative To Promote Excellence and Innovation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities), which is hereby revoked. To the extent that there are other Executive Orders that may conflict with or overlap with the provisions in this order, the provisions in this order supersede those prior Executive Orders on these subjects.

EMPLOYERS GET RID OF THEIR DUMBEST 1% USING THIS ONE CRAZY HACK!

The most amusing part of this that I’ve seen so far has been the utter confidence that so many Republican VAX deniers have that they will now get rich from their big lawsuit.

They all appear to have bought into the widespread mythology that there somehow exists some publicly funded apparatus for promoting every single employee grievance into a civil court of law. And that once there, “people like us” are absolutely assured of not only great success, but are guaranteed to receive huge payouts. To these people it’s merely a matter of filling out some magical online form or registering with a website.

Perhaps there’s a good opportunity in this. A website for the dumbest 1% of all workers to “register” for support and “assistance” after having “wrongfully” been terminated from employment over VAX refusal. $19.99 sound about right? Maybe if it comes with “secure” access to lawyer referral, a membership card, and a window decal for the truck?

Looks like Obama had the initiative under the DOE, Trump reorganized it under direct White House control, and Biden has put it back under the DOE.

As we ponder our spews denouncing Trump’s politicization of HBCUs by placing the direction of the initiative covering them under White House control, let’s recall, shall we, what Obama tried to do with the Census Bureau.

It’s pretty clear where we are right now that about 18 Republican slave-state governments would violently oppose any enforcement. Putting down that insurrection would entail additional risk to decent honorable soldiers and government officials tasked with enforcing any national mandate on all citizens. And a substantial portion of those who would be protected by that effort are now either dead, recovered, or vaccinated anyway.

We could have been about where we are right now six months ago, only with a lot fewer dead, or medically bankrupted and permanently crippled Republicans. Maybe Biden was right.

    … but got “cancelled” after…

But what exactly does this mean? The use of scare quotes is for some reason.

In this case it means he lost a single, large and potentially lucrative booking, and about four other much smaller bookings. A major streaming service removed his contributions to remix recording, depriving him of streaming income from that work.

Chappelle compares this to the potential for criminal liability arising from a self-defense shooting.

Frankly, it doesn’t really make any sense. And it’s almost certainly self-serving on Chappelle’s part. Aside from Chappelle’s own well documented bigotry toward LGBTQ people, there’s the more significant issue of his own history of battling over censorship and battling for income arising from his work product. But when Chappelle finally won his long battle with Warner he famously thanked “his real bosses”, the consumers and viewers.

This is what it means to derive an income from public approval. It just can’t be any more plain. People either like it or they don’t. And if they don’t, for whatever reason, THAT IS NOT UNFAIR. That’s the business you decided to go into.

Losing income because you are an asshole has nothing to do with “getting away” with anything. And Chappelle knows that better than anyone. It just scares the shit out of him that society is moving on without him.

“Means testing” as it appears in the MSNBC sub head has nothing at all to do with means testing Social Security retirement benefits.

It’s much more consistent with the “means testing” applied to something like Medicaid. Medicaid consists of a massive collection of 50 separate and independent bureaucracies all staffed by overworked technocrats pouring over volumes of federal rules created by decades of Congressional “good intentions” to decide whether an applicant gets 50 units of diapers per month, or only 47. A savings of $1.50 per month that costs state and federal taxpayers $300. You and Manchinema now find yourselves arguing in favor of this.

YLB might be interested in some Virginia redistricting news. First there’s this:

Incumbent protection remains flashpoint as Virginia senator tries to draw his own district lines

    That’s a Democrat senator, BTW.

And then Democrats reverted to the cowardice for which they have become infamous, by walking out like the pussies they are.

Virginia Redistricting Commission members walk out of meeting as panel remains stuck in partisan impasse

The Democrats wanted to work off of a map produced only that morning, one which had not been subject to public commentary. The GOP wanted to work off of both Senate maps.

Here’s the thing, YLB. Democrat cowardice means no redistricting map results from the Commission’s work.

If the commission comes to a compromise, they will send their proposed maps to the General Assembly for an up-or-down vote. If the maps are voted down or if no agreement is reached, the process will be in the hands of the Virginia Supreme Court.

The Virginia Supreme Court leans right.

AZBio Virtual Town Hall with Senator Kyrsten Sinema
    Date: Friday, May 15, 2020

    Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Pac/AZ

Registration for this free virtual event is required.

Questions may be sent in advance via this link or provided in the chat box during the town hall.

    ‘nother:

    Kyrsten Sinema
    @SenatorSinema
Our tele-town hall with @AZ_AARP allowed us to hear directly from Arizona seniors, answer questions about coronavirus, share tips on avoiding dangerous scams, and ensure seniors have access to the care and support they deserve.
    azbigmedia.com
Here are the threats to seniors of COVID-19 that extend beyond the virus – AZ Big Media
AARP, hosted a live coronavirus informational phone conference for over 10,000 seniors to inform older citizens of the dangers of COVID-19.
    1:19 PM · Apr 24, 2020

QoS McHillbilly doesn’t like to acknowledge the AARP event, because Sinema credited the work of a GOP governor.

Arizona’s senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema addressed and applauded Governor Doug Ducey’s approach for handling the statewide health crisis during a tele-town hall Wednesday night put on by Arizona AARP.

Interesting one of the U.S. Army’s 2 Iron Dome Batteries is being deployed to protect the THAAD Battery on Guam. It’s part of an excercise mandated by Congress, just like the acquisition which is on an interim basis.

    https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/42687/the-iron-dome-air-defense-system-is-heading-to-guam

The Army is going with a competitor for the contract, despite Congress and Israel pushing the Iron Dome. The Dynetics Enduring Shield is leveraging the Army’s Multi Mission Launcher, Sentinel Radar, and the AIM-9X missile. Partly because the mission the Army wants it for is to tackle low flying cruise missiles. Both Iron Dome and Enduring Shield are systems not just the missile. The MML can use the Tamir interceptor of the Iron Dome, but it appears the Iron Dome can’t easily be adapted for the AIM-9X. The Tamir is cheaper than the AIM-9X though. Raytheon is Rafael/IAI’s U.S. partner, marketing it as SkyHunter, but they aren’t losing all to Dynetics. They also manufacture the AIM-9X.

What else? Oh someone just woke up on the always wrong wing:

That’s what they want,” he wrote. In another article, he asked: “In a country where elections are decided on razor-thin margins, does it not benefit one side if their opponents simply drop dead?”…

Nolte deserves kudos for trying an innovative pro-vaccine argument. It could actually work. His audience won’t take the vaccine to save their own lives, but they just might get vaxxed to crush the Democrats in the midterms…

From a Friday evening client dispatch from Goldman Sachs Portfolio Strategy Research:
“Stagflation” was the most common word in client conversations this week as equity market volatility remained elevated. … [T]his week the market focused on the risks posed to growth by supply chain challenges and rising energy costs.

Biden officials have reunited only 52 of at least 1,000 separated migrant families, a task they say is almost impossible because of Trump
    https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-reunites-52-of-1000-migrant-families-split-under-trump-2021-10

Officials from the Trump administration kept poor records of whom they separated.
“We estimate that over 1,000, somewhere between 1,000, 1,500, maybe more remain separated,” Brane said. “It’s very hard to know because there’s no record.”

We knew this was gonna happen. The trump admin had no effective system to reunite families as they were being deported. A simple system like taking pictures of family members together accompanied by the signature of everyone in the picture with their birthdays & name of hometown, would’ve gone a long way to assuring family unity. These families were just written on a standard white board and erased.

Albert Einstein published On a Heuristic Point of View Concerning the Production and Transformation of Light in 1905.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize for that work in 1922, by which point the “particle” model of electromagnetism was so firmly established that the next great breakthrough lay in developing the mathematics to rationalize that theoretical model, upon which the entirety of high speed particle physics had been built, with all the widely known wave characteristics of light – what would become Quantum Theory. That project was undertaken that same year between Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg.

The wage data, and these ways of modeling data about wages in job markets have been around for a very long time and they have now become widely and firmly established among the consensus of economists who depend upon them for our understanding of macroeconomic trends.

But that can’t stop a deeply ignorant partisan asshat “conservative” from proclaiming all manner of calamity the minute the paperboy gets a one penny raise. Self-harm is in their nature. Black flag: Understanding the Trumpists’ latest threatening symbol | Trump zealots have begun flying black U.S. flags, which signal no quarter for enemies. It’s a threat of violence
    https://www.salon.com/2021/10/12/black-flag-understanding-the-trumpists-latest-threatening-symbol/

In addition to the black flag another narrative they have started is that people who get the covid vaccine are being genetically modified, and thus are now “trans-human” which means they are now an invasive species. “And in Texas there is no bag limit for an invasive species” meaning they can kill as many as they want.

Just to add, when they meet people now they ask the person if they’ve been vaccinated, if so they won’t shake their hand.

    @ 144

The common thread running through Nobel Prizes is they seem to go to people who’ve been very influential in their respective fields.

Al Gore was certainly influential in that sale of Current TV to Al Jazeera. The greatest value of climate change advocacy is in the payoff to those at the top. Al Gore received a substantial share of the $500 million purchase price.

As for what became of Current TV, OTOH:

Al Jazeera America shut down on April 12, 2016, citing the “economic landscape and the highly competitive nature of the American media market, as reasons to shut down the channel. After use by three networks since 1994, the channel space folded after Al Jazeera failed to sell it to another network.

Always follow the money or, in Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s case, the lack thereof.

    151,
That’s more than a bit overly simplistic.

With 358 D 1 programs, and 130 FBS programs, not every single team is ever going to be in competition for Nick Saban and his multi-million dollar entourage of assistants, position specialists, and data analysts.

And while I’m sure you’re quite proud of Husky stadium, it’s a dump compared to what uncle Phil built in Eugene. Which in case you didn’t notice, is in Eugene.

The point being that in reality most teams in FBS are in more or less the same circumstances as WSU, especially when it comes to recruiting head football coaches. And it’s been a long, long, long time since Don James last coached a game. And were he coaching today, he’d probably still be at Kent State competing for a postseason appearance at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

If it wasn’t on the ship two weeks ago it won’t be here for Christmas.

I’m sure Democrats will have a much easier time with all that bill passing and debt-increasing stuff in mid-December, when the only things Amazon can deliver before Christmas are tube socks and Geritrol.

    Put off until December:

The annual Dumbfuck Rabbit family gathering in order to decide whether to fill the oil tank or the freezer, cause the family can’t afford to do both.

What will be different this year is that due to Biden-era inflation and Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s unreasoned choice to invest in AT&T shares, the decision will be whether to half-fill one or the other.

    Cave.

    Indeed.

    But to whom?
Or perhaps more accurately to what?

We began this year with a frank and open discussion of exploring changes to Senate rules that favored the obstructionist minority viewpoints. The President, the Speaker, and the Majority Leader all plainly rejected that approach, arguing instead that they believed that the President could achieve his economic recovery and rebuilding objectives despite those arcane and undemocratic rules.

This is how a nation is moved. Toward reform of Senate rules. Toward reform of the Electoral College. Toward reform of state voting laws. Toward statehood. Toward judicial reforms.

Biden, a “company man” who served there for thirty six years, now openly discusses a need for Senate reform. And the Senate obstruction that was once widely described in terms of “moderates” versus “progressives” is now almost exclusively described in terms of Democrats versus two of their members uniquely positioned by those rules to stop any legislation they care to.

And at this point, any reduction in the package is likely to be in terms of years rather than in terms of programs. That’s because a successful unwinding of all the various stakeholders and constituencies too complicated to be done in a reasonable time frame. But that also means that most near term benefits to voters, taxpayers, job seekers, and workers will remain in place at least through midterms and 2024. So fierce partisan opposition to deeply popular programs will not have the hoped for political consequence. At least not in the near term.

And near term is all Republicans have got.

I did not think the impotent, bankrupted, twice impeached, failed reality television actor who hires prostitutes to jerk him off with rubber gloves would try to overthrow the democratically elected new Democratic president on Jan 6. Don’t want to be blindsided again by trusting republicans to do the right thing.

@153 So now compromising is caving in?

Your tribe should learn something about compromise before you become total pariahs and outcasts. People whose shtick is “all or nothing” usually end up with nothing.

Could progressives learn from that? Yes, absolutely. But Republicans need to learn it more. Way, way more. They invented stonewalling. And they’re now very, very unpopular.

@155 And here we have a well-informed but stupid conservative insinuating that climate change isn’t a legitimate issue because one guy who warned people about it made money from a business deal.

If that was a legitimate argument, half your stock trades would render your HA posts invalid. However, the other half would cancel that out.
