@4 What drives your gratification of knowing that Obama’s approval ratings are low. Could it be your guilt of knowing how bad GWB sucked?

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@4 Umm, look, Obama isn’t perfect but when a pizza peddler no one ever heard of tops your frontrunner in polls, you guys are in real rouble … so I’d rather be us than you … it must seriously suck to be you …

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@12 Yes, but we all know guns don’t kill people — maniacs with guns kill people. And Wisconsin’s GOP legislators believe anyone should be able to get a gun without a background check and carry it anywhere without a permit, so you could argue that voting for Republican candidates kills people, too.

  6. 14

13 – Let’s see how this works… The right wing fearmongers that Dems are trying to create communism, abort babies on demand, take away the guns – then a whacko “freed” to excercise his 2nd ammendment rights to carry a handgun without a permit then shoots a Dem like a Gabby Giffords..

The result: in right wing terms, an “armed” society is a “polite” society…

Reality: right wingers ruling through fear..

  7. 15

    Roger Rabbit spews:

It’s The Regulations, Stupid!! — Or Is It?

The “free market” numbskulls who plunged our economy into the worst depression since the 1930s by deregulating everything are now trying to tell us that it’s government regulation, not overleveraging and collapse of credit markets, that’s preventing job creation.

Why would anyone except a complete blockhead believe them?

Now let’s take a look at a specific case in point: Privately-held Gibson Guitar Corp., which is owned by CEO Henry Juszkiewicz and his partner David H. Berryman.

“In August, Gibson factories in Nashville and Memphis were raided, and rosewood from India was confiscated. … The action stems from enforcement of a … Federal law concerning illegal logging ….

Now listen to Juszkiewicz’ whining: “We are definitely paying the price to manufacture in the United States.”

Juszkiewics doesn’t like being forced to use substitute materials whose harvest doesn’t harm the environment. “He’s reportedly spending $10,000 a month to lobby Congress to enable Gibson to make guitars the way it wants to,” CNBC reports.

Meanwhile, Juszkiewics’s whines: “The real issue, in my mind, is the uncertainty and cost of government regulation, which has been increasingly intrusive.”

No, asswipe, the “real issue” is that you’re breaking the law.

“Illegal logging is a multi-billion dollar a year industry” that’s causing “enormous environmental and human” damage, environmental groups say. Gibson was raided two years ago by federal enforcement agents for the same reason, but they’re still buying wood from the same supplier, a German firm known to be dealing in illegal wood.

Other business owners scathingly criticize Gibson’s business practices: “The CEO of Northland Forest Products, Jameson French, questions the company’s actions. ‘Why weren’t you more careful,’ he says. ‘I don’t understand why, if you’ve been under investigation for bringing in illegal ebony from Madagascar, with a German importer that’s clearly doing illegal wood, why would you keep buying from that same importer? The small business man is saying what’s going on here? It doesn’t make a lot of sense.'”

Actually, it doesn’t make any sense, except in terms of greedy bastards who think they’re above the law putting profit ahead of all else.

There’s a reason why we have these laws and enforce them. Apart from the environmental damage, unfair trade puts legitimate businesses out of business, and puts those companies’ employees out of work. Juszkiewics doesn’t have the support of other business people in his industry — they’re against him. Far from being a victim of excessive government regulation or overzealous enforcement agents, he’s a villain. His posturing about his company’s “American jobs” is nothing but a smokescreen for criminal behavior.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Next time you hear Mitt Romney give a speech about how “regulation” is “killing” jobs, ask yourself whether you want your vote to help people like Henry Juszkiewicz get away with raping the environment and putting his law-abiding competitors out of business.

    Michael spews:

Not to mention the GOP cooking up nonsense like this:
A House subcommittee is voting today on a bill that would bar the EPA from regulating farm dust. Of course, the EPA isn’t trying to regulate farm dust, but voting on legislation that has anything to do with reality is so pre-midterms.

Republicans like John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Herman Cain have been citing the nonexistent farm dust rule for months as a textbook example of EPA overreach. In a way, they’re right — it is a textbook example of EPA overreach as envisioned by the GOP, in the sense that it’s totally made up.

The hubbub over this phantom rule — surely one of the most controversial regulations that never was — involved a slow-moving federal agency, and a Republican Party with EPA in its crosshairs.

“I do believe that the EPA does have the ability to change its mind,” said Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.), the sponsor of the bill to be voted on Thursday. The EPA has now confirmed that it does not intend to strengthen standards on farm dust.

Sam Seder: FAUX News’ Megyn Kelly suggests pepper spray is no biggie!

    Politically Incorrect spews:

    @13 & 14,

So, should it be that only the police and military have firearms? Is that what you want?

  11. 19

    Michael spews:

Yes, but we all know guns don’t kill people — maniacs with guns kill people

The thing of it is, I’m not even anti-gun. I’m typing this about 10 feet from a locking cabinet with a couple of lever-action rifles in it. But, this has gotten insane.

I’d like to see instant background checks* and the same types of laws about not selling guns to people you know are going to use them in crimes applied to ammo and no more ammo sales over the internet!

*No background check required for ammo purchased at and used on a gun range.

  12. 20

You must spend an awful lot of time watching Fox News.

Unlikely. What’s probably the case is that others more brave watch that crap so the rest of us don’t have to.

  13. 23

    Michael spews:

So, should it be that only the police and military have firearms? Is that what you want?

Considering what some of the police have been up too lately, I’d say they’re a bit suspect too. That the West Net folks are heavily armed doesn’t make me feel any safer. It does make me feel glad that I never decided to move out to Kitsap County. I’m perfectly comfortable with the Gig Harbor police.

I’m not the least bit ant-gun, but I don’t think you can look at what’s going on and not think our current situation is a bit crazy and that some reforms are needed. However, I do think it’s fairly easy to decide to not look at what’s going on and to babble slogans instead. I’ve been posting links to shooting on a fairly regular basis to break through that.

  14. 24

    Michael spews:

When you consider what’s been said about an done to the occupy movement, it has been amazingly free of that sort of thing and non-violent. We don’t know who vandalized the bank. Maybe they were occupy folks. Maybe they were just pissed off. Maybe they would have vandalized the bank and spray painted something else on it if the Occupy Movement didn’t exist.

So far the students that ran amok after “Joe Pa” got fired for allowing an assistant coach to rape young boys have done more damage than the occupy folks.

I saw a bit in the news the other night about how much the Occupy folks had cost American cities in police overtime, it was less than what one hour of the Iraq war cost.

  15. 25

shake down from the poverty pimp spews:

LMFAO @ listing poverty-pimp race-baiter Al Sharpton as a link.

Yes, because people should listen to that guy….he’s nothing but a crook and a phoney..but hey, he votes Democrat…lmfao.

hopefully people bought extra bars of soap to throw at the occupy nuts….’cause they got that funky stink going on.

  17. 27

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@18 Are you brain dead? My comment @13 is a long way from advocating that only the police and military have guns.

  18. 30

    Michael spews:

    That was too easy.

According to the WSJ sales were the best since 2007. But, that’s just sales for 1 day and a year has 365 of them in it. Plus, that’s just sales and there were crazy mark downs going on. We’re going to have to wait a bit to see how retail actually did this year. We’re also going to have to wait and see if people spent cash or went back to their old bad habits and racked up a bunch of debit.

Hopefully, Obama and Co. did alright and we’re turning things around and hopefully people have learned their lesson and didn’t go in the red.

The OWS’ers weren’t saying don’t shop, they were saying don’t shop at big box stores.

  19. 31

    Michael spews:

Must of missed the Sharpton link. The man’s right up there with Newt when it comes to useless gasbags.

  20. 32

Uhhh.. Black Friday means little besides consumers being DESPERATE for the best deals on in-demand merchandise. And they are desperate because they’re strapped and haven’t lowered their expectations to any significant degree.

And I’ve already posted that the best deals aren’t even available on Black Friday.

It’s the total numbers for the Christmas shopping season that have any meaning.. Compared to prior years the numbers will not be good.

No political movement, tea party or occupy or whatever, has any effect on people’s mania for cheap goods.

  21. 33

Numbers games in retail are as old as the numbers games baseball managers play with pitchers..

Markdown bauble x and sales histories show that people often buy some of bauble y (like gift wrap) at the same time. So you jack up the prices of bauble y or find the cheapest supply of bauble y..

Add up all costs and shoot for the best pricing on goods that’ll maximize profit.. Computers are great for figuring this stuff out..

  22. 34

    Michael spews:

Gots to love the Limbaugh clip. “Let’s go to the audio” the man says and they play an audio track were the booing of Michele Obama is 4x as loud as the booing of all the other recordings of that event. Then they stop abruptly and Limbaugh’s all “why do we always cut that of right when we get to the meat of it.” Based on all the other recording of that event, my guess is that they cut it off because the booing ends and cheering takes over.

This is what’s wrong with Righty America. They feel they have to makeup the news and lie about things. They don’t. They could tell it straight and still have viewers and listeners.

The GOP didn’t need to lie about the EPA regulating farm dust in order to fight what they saw as over regulation. But, for some weird reason they needed to lie.

Hell, look at Puddy! He could come on here as Jeff or Bob or whatever his real name is and engage in real discourse, but he doesn’t. He has to be Puddybudwholeftthereservation and act like a loon.

Larry Craig’s not gay, and not looking for a “firm handshake” in a men’s room, he just has a wide stance!

There’s something wrong with these people.

  23. 35

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@24 “it was less than what one hour of the Iraq war cost”

And MUCH less than what the Wall Street shakedown artists they’re protesting against have cost us.

  24. 36

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@34 “He has to be Puddybudwholeftthereservation and act like a loon.”

I think Puddy’s objective is to disrupt this blog as much as possible. He doesn’t seem very interested in real discourse.

  25. 37

36 – In his very first comment here, Puddybud called Goldy a “Butt”.. Goldy called Eyman a horse’s ass yes, but he did something even worse to Puddybud – Goldy ignored Puddybud’s taunts at (un)SP. So for that Puddybud said that Goldy had “no guts to answer”, i.e. called Goldy a coward, a “coward” for ignoring a crazy man.

In a comment only 3 hours later he called all us liberal-leaning commenters “space cadets”..

So the guy is just an insane asshole… Looking back.. Sure wish we ignored him like we did JCH and Klake for the most part. He’d be long gone by now.

  26. 39

    Puddybud spews:

This missed the Friday Night Funnies… Now how did rujax miss this? Oh yeah… not on a leftist blog!

Living the dream, employing people and this hangs over her head! Nice union thuggery and extortion raising her rent 350%. The union OWNs the building. Hmmm…? That’s interesting. As all can see the beast is never satisfied.

Now we can see they are literally about the bite the hand that feeds them. So when the area declines because peeps are not venturing to the area to glimpse celebrities or eat great food, they’ll blame her for closing the restaurant and naturally the union thugs will claim she’s a 1%er! So where is the Fleabaggers on this? It’s corporate greed and union thuggery. Oops my bad… they only attack Republicans and conservatives.

leading some to dub her “the black Martha Stewart.”

That’s the big difference between libtards and conservatives… We would call Ms. Smith a smart entrepreneur!

  27. 41

    Puddybud spews:

In a comment only 3 hours later he called all us liberal-leaning commenters “space cadets”.

You are space cadets. Liberalism is a mental disorder and you ylb are the worst of the worst!

So you captured all of Sound Politics too? Whatamoron!

  28. 42

    Puddybud spews:

He doesn’t seem very interested in real discourse.

Well Roger DOPEY Rabbit, the only real discourse is your investment information. Otherwise all you dispense is leftist propaganda and almost all of it is easily destroyed with FACTS!

You seem to forget many items you tend to skip like the recent discussion over college degrees and their unemployment rates. You seemed to slither away after I posted the US government labor rates and the discussion began. I think ArtFart described you well. A bubble and half off plumb!

  29. 45

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@40 My understanding of the incident is that our air crews were fired upon and they shot back — got a problem with that?

  30. 46

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@41 “Liberalism is a mental disorder”

Really? Liberals freed the slaves and enacted civil rights laws; outlawed child labor and child abuse; established free universal public education; protected workers with wages and hours laws and workplace safety regulations; created Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, and injured workers compensation; enacted the Clean Air and Clean Water acts; etc. — all these things that benefit our citizens are a “mental disorder”? Only a fucking loon would think that …

  31. 48

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@43 Well that’s the GOP version, putz. What the media reported is that Republicans wanted to raise middle class taxes and cut middle class entitlements to pay for a reduction in the top tax rate on millionaires from 35% to 28% — and Democrats told them to go to hell.

But let’s say the Republican claim that Democrats wanted $1 trillion in revenues as part of a $4 trillion deficit reduction deal — what’s so bad about that? That’s still $3 of spending cuts for every $1 of tax increases. Considering that reckless and irresponsible Republican tax cuts for millionaires got us in this fix in the first place, that’s pretty damned generous on the part of the Democrats. So, even “the truth” (as you call it) makes Republicans look bad.

  32. 49

    Blue John spews:

    Liberalism is a mental disorder?
    That’s a Michael Weiner-Savage catchphrase.
    who, if you need reminding…

Savage had a short lived show on MSNBC also titled The Savage Nation. In July 2003 he was sacked for referring to one of his callers as a “sodomite” and saying he should “get AIDS and die”

Do you really want to be associated with that?

  33. 50

    Michael spews:

Frank Church and Walter Mondale were behind The Wild And Scenic River Act.

Across The Pond, it was the liberals in England that fought the good fight against the Boer War and got aid into internment camps where something like 27K women and children died. The Conservatives saw this not as a humanitarian disaster, but as a public relations disaster.

  34. 52

    Michael spews:

After the the super committee failed The News Hour had 3 guests on 1 NP and two right of center and all 3 of them laid the fault squarely at the feet of the republicans.

  35. 53

    Puddybud spews:

    Liberals freed the slaves and

Abraham Lincoln was a liberal Roger DOPEY Rabbit? History paints an interesting picture on Stephen A. Douglass, the DUMMOCRAPTIC candidate.

    enacted civil rights laws

Everett Dirksen was a liberal Roger DOPEY Rabbit? Senate DUMMOCRAPTS opposed those bill ya moron.

The rest is Roger DOPEY Rabbit’s standard liberal swill job. FACTS exploded that argument! Revisionist history never gets past Puddy!

  36. 54

    Puddybud spews:

Shit, that looks like a FREE MARKET at work, putz! What are you, a fucking commie?

Ummm Roger DOPEY Rabbit… you guys are the commies remember? Didn’t headless dorky dorkface teach you anything?

Free Market? That’s what you call union thuggery?

  37. 55

    Puddybud spews:

My understanding of the incident is that our air crews were fired upon and they shot back

You didn’t answer the real thrust of my comment Roger DOPEY Rabbit. If this happened under GWBush, you’d be awash in mouthy froth!

    FACTS explode Roger DOPEY Rabbit.

  38. 56

    Puddybud spews:

    Liberalism is a mental disorder?
    That’s a Michael Weiner-Savage catchphrase.

Truth is truth Michael. You forgot what Lee once said about truth?

  39. 57

    Puddybud spews:

    What the media reported

More partisan games from the libtard MSM. Now that the Toomey proposal was aired it will get more air time and DUMMOCRAPTS will be asked about it! Of course the libtard MSM will try to bury it.

    We’ll see next week.

  40. 58

    Puddybud spews:

That’s still $3 of spending cuts for every $1 of tax increases.

And we see when Reagan gave in to Tip O’Neill in 1986 the spending cuts NEVER happened.

  41. 59

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Jackass @53: It sure as hell wasn’t conservatives who freed the slaves and gave them civil rights. And, although it’s apparently news to you, the rest of the world has known for over 40 years which party all the former Southern “Democrats” and other bigots are currently stinking up.

  42. 60

@56 You wouldn’t know what “truth” is if it butt-fucked you. Truth is, it already did numerous times.

  43. 62

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@54 “you guys are the commies remember”

I don’t think so, you fucking idiot, and I’d like to remind you that every time “free market” asswipes run capitalism into the dirt, we end up having to bail it out again.

  44. 64

Zotz sez: High tonite. Low tomorrow. Precipitation is expected. spews:

So the guy is just an insane asshole… Looking back.. Sure wish we ignored him like we did JCH and Klake for the most part. He’d be long gone by now.

ahem… As I’ve noted before, at some point our response to an obviously insane asshole (just another word for nothing left to lo… er, I mean puddybud) becomes more about us than him.

  45. 65

Liberal Scientist thinks that concentrated power and wealth should be met with suspicion, not adoration spews:

I followed the latter part of this thread – all of puddy’s piles of shit dropped everywhere, and the yeoman’s work being done by RR and michael and blue and gman to rebut him, to clean up the mess.

    But it does no good.

Roger had it right when he compared puddy to a parrot – squawking, shrieking, mimicking – p-dud is here to interject dishonest and misleading talking points, make false equivalences, and to make the discourse about him, rather than about issues.

He is not honest, and does not respond to argument. I don’t know if this is an authentic human on the other end of the intertubes, and he really is then pretty obviously disturbed, or whether, more likely, he is an operative of some sort – paid or volunteer – with the objective of ruining the discussion and community of people he loathes.

I maintain a commitment to free discourse, but I think p-dud is a bad-faith actor and needs to be asked to leave.

It’s not like he is putting out valid ideas that are uncomfortable but provoke debate and discussion – no, that’s precisely what he is trying to ruin.

  46. 66

    Puddybud spews:

It sure as hell wasn’t conservatives who freed the slaves and gave them civil rights.

Oh my Roger DOPEY Rabbit you need to revisit your history books. In FACT, I put forth the final vote tallies for the voting rights act and the civil rights act on HA some time ago. Being the forgetful DOPEY Rabbit is one of your main traits.

Why do you think you know black history better than me? You think you know much but when it comes do FACTS almost all of your commentary is easily refuted.

  47. 67

    Puddybud spews:

You wouldn’t know what “truth” is if it butt – fucked you. Truth is, it already did numerous times.

It’s you who supports the butt – fuckers not me moron! And Truth doesn’t butt – fuck anyone. Truth meets you face to face. Butt, since you brought it up, in your case your butt.

So tell me how Richard Russell delivered the Senate DUMMOCRAPTS to approve the VRA and the CRA? You can look at any history book you want Roger DOPEY Rabbit.

Remember it was you who once said all you need is to disprove one point to destroy an argument. Well I delivered more than one again!

Oh really Michael? Well I noticed you didn’t perform DD and find the link.

    From wikipedia

AEI’s “Political Corner”[104] includes a range of political viewpoints, from the center-left[14][105] Norman J. Ornstein to the conservative Michael Barone.

Norman Ornstein is a long-time friend of current U. S. Senator Al Franken. KABLAMMOOOO #1

Maya Macguineas – part of the New America Foundation who fully supported ObamAA+Care From Wikipedia

and helped bring about reforms enacted through the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 New America’s Health policy program actively supported health reform at both the state and federal level.

When you have political commentator Fareed Zakaria on your board that explains much about NAF! And when you put forth a proposal using ObamAA+’s FY2011 budget serves as the baseline, you know which side they live on! DUMMOCRAPTIC! KABLAMMOOOO #2

Now onto Henry Aaron. WikiPedia contends Brooking Institute is no conservative think tank

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Brookings describes itself as independent and non-partisan. The New York Times has referred to the organization as liberal, liberal-centrist, centrist, and conservative.[22][23][24][25][26][27][28] In 2008, The New York Times published an article where it referred to the “conservative Brookings Institution,”. The Washington Post has described Brookings as centrist and liberal.[29][30][31][32] The Los Angeles Times described Brookings as liberal-leaning and centrist before concluding these labels made no sense.[33][34][35][36] In 1977, Time Magazine described it as the “nation’s pre-eminent liberal think tank.”[37] Newsweek has described Brookings as centrist[38] while Politico has used the term “center-left.”[39] In addition, the organization is described as centrist by the liberal media watchdog group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting.[19][40][41][42]

Some liberals argue that despite its left-of-center reputation, Brookings foreign policy scholars were overly supportive of Bush administration policies abroad.[43][44] Matthew Yglesias, for example, has pointed out that Brookings’s Michael O’Hanlon frequently agrees with—and appears on stage with—scholars from conservative organizations such as the American Enterprise Institute, The Weekly Standard, and the Project for a New American Century.[43] Similarly, Brookings fellow and research director Benjamin Wittes is a member of the conservative Hoover Institution’s Task Force on National Security and Law.[45] A number of Brookings scholars have served in Republican and Democratic administrations,[clarification needed] including Mark McClellan, Ron Haskins and Martin Indyk.[46]

    Well that’s KABLAMMMOOOOO #3 Michael.

    So much for your “facts”.

  49. 69

    Puddybud spews:

glad you brought that article back front again. As of this moment ylb the HA and Sound Politics crazed databaze keepa will be searching for this article in his crazed databazes…

    The pertinent part…

In other words, according to the Indian government intelligence report, the perpetrators of the September 11 attacks had links to Pakistan’s ISI, which in turn has links to agencies of the US government. What this suggests is that key individuals within the US military-intelligence establishment might have known about the ISI contacts with the September 11 terrorist “ring-leader” Mohamed Atta and failed to act.

Now which book was paraded around the leftist circles in September until the left figgered out Clinton’s CIA knew about the bombers? Well ylb placed the Ali Soufan front and center.

He recounts a scene at the American Embassy in Yemen, where, a few hours after the attacks on New York and Washington, a C.I.A. official finally turned over the material the bureau requested months earlier, including photographs of two of the hijackers.

“For about a minute I stared at the pictures and the report, not quite believing what I had in my hands,” Mr. Soufan writes. Then he ran to a bathroom and vomited. “My whole body was shaking,” he writes. He believed the material, documenting a Qaeda meeting in Malaysia in January 2000, combined with information from the Cole investigation, might have helped unravel the airliner plot.

You can get the link from ylb. I did!

Yeah Bush was president eh gleeeman? NOT! So why did Clinton’s CIA hold this evidence in 2000? Maybe the “Gorelick Wall” was working very well!

There goes Lib Headcase again… never questioning anything Roger DOPEY Rabbit puts forth. Always a “yes man” even when Richard Russell was against the CRA and the VRA. And they named a senate office building after that racist!

Go ahead Lib Headcase, make some sense for a change. Prove Everett Dirksen was a DUMMOCRAPT and he didn’t help pass the VRA or CRA when DUMMOCRAPTS were against it! Lib Headcase’s problem is he can’t accept DUMMOCRAPTS doing wrong even when historical facts demonstrate their wrong over and over. He still can’t explain how the OWS fleabaggers are still giving Jon Corzine a pass of MF Global cuz Corzine is a DUMMOCRAPT! He hasn’t answered that yet.

    You see Lib Headcase,

Jon Corzine left NJ in $8 Billion debt. Jon Corzine may have received a $12 Million GP from MF Global. Now we see MF Global may have wiped $1 Billion off the map. People were laid off overseas when I was there when this happened. How many middle class people did MF Global wipe out? How many pensions did MF Global wipe out?

Remember, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi were big time jock-strappers of Jon Corzine. They sang “ballads” to Jon over his great financial acumen. Where are Springsteen and Bon Jovi now? Where are their protest songs against such a Wall Street crime committed by a DUMMOCRAPT?

Oh wait… Corzine was an ObamAA+ bundler!

These and other FACTS are the reason you hate me Lib Headcase. I find them and you grind your teeth over them!

  60. 80

LMAO!! I just heard Michelle Bachmann played the sexism card recently as if that would help her out the muck of her own obtuseness..

Gotta love Guv Bridgefail TPaw’s take on her:

Bachmann’s legislative deficiencies most recently arose when then-Republican presidential candidate and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty claimed that his rival’s legacy amounted to “giving speeches and offering failed amendments,” and that her “record of accomplishment in Congress is nonexistent.”

Politifact deemed this charge to be “Mostly True,”

LOL! That was from HuffPo.. The facts are here:

  61. 81

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Here’s another example of how money has utterly corrupted our political system. When Republicans run things, you can’t even walk down the corridors of a public building without tripping over scandals, because there’s so many of them. But even Democrats aren’t immune; the ugly truth is that Big Money owns both political parties — and, therefore, owns all of us and everything we have or hope to have.

Ron Perelman is one of the richest guys on the planet. He’s also a world-class jerk. He’s also a major Democratic donor.

Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill is calling for an investigation of how the Obama administration awarded a $443 million contract for a smallpox vaccine that hasn’t been approved by the FDA and isn’t known to work.

Now, before we delve into how this contract was awarded, let’s review the status of smallpox as a disease: It was eradicated by the late 1970s and now exists only in the locked freezers of U.S. and Russian government scientific institutes. But if a terrorist group somehow got ahold of the smallpox virus, the U.S. government already has $1 billion of smallpox vaccine in storage. It cost taxpayers $3 a dose.

Yet, our government paid Perelman’s company $255 a dose — 85 times as much — for an unapproved drug of unknown (and untestable) effectiveness.

Here’s how the contract was awarded:

“When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company’s financial demands, senior officials replaced the government’s lead negotiator for the deal ….

“When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing. Siga was awarded the final contract in May through a ‘sole-source’ procurement in which it was the only company asked to submit a proposal. …

“The price … is well above what the government’s specialists had earlier said was reasonable ….”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: This is a Democratic administration coddling a Democratic donor at taxpayers’ expense, pure and simple. I won’t try to defend it, because it’s indefensible. Corruption is corruption, regardless of who does it. This shows why defeating Republicans isn’t enough. Replacing corrupt Republicans with corrupt Democrats doesn’t get us anything. We need to reform the whole rotten system, but to do that, we have to get money out of politics. That’s a multistep process, and the very first step is getting rid of the conservatives on the Corrupt Court. After we accomplish that, we can talk about where we go from there.

Right. He rose from 2% to 15%, in a state where Romney polls at 45%, which is akin to a gnat having an erection. If UL’s endorsement gives Gingrich a 5% boost, then Newt will get clobbered by only 20 points (instead of 25 points) in the primary.

“provide innovative and practical recommendations that advance three broad goals: strengthen American democracy; foster the economic and social welfare, security and opportunity of all Americans; and secure a more open, safe, prosperous, and cooperative international system.”

There’s nothing inherently left or right in that.

There’s nothing inherently leftist in working on Welfare reform, deregulation or tax reform.

Brookings traces its history back to 1916 and has contributed to the creation of the United Nations, the Marshall Plan, and the Congressional Budget Office, as well as influenced policies of deregulation, broad-based tax reform, welfare reform, and foreign aid

And there’s this little gem from our friends at Wikipedia:

“Brookings and its researchers are not so concerned, in their work, in affecting the ideological direction of the nation” and rather tend “to be staffed by researchers with strong academic credentials.”

Brookings is centrist and pro establishment.

    Wisconsin Update

Gov. Scott Walker, assuming he’ll face recall next year, is already running expensive campaign ads.

After only two weeks of signature gathering, Democrats “are on pace to gather more than enough signatures to put Walker on the ballot.” It took nly 4 days to get 105,000 of the 540,000 signatures needed by January 17. The GOP’s state party leader says, “I have little doubt the Democrats are going to be able to get the signatures.”

Republicans, even before seeing any petitions, are promising legal challenges. They’re desperate to prevent a recall election, because polls show 58% of Wisconsin’s voters would vote to oust him.

Walker is not the only recall target. Recall petitions are also circulating against the state’s Republican lieutenant governor and four more GOP state senators. Democrats would need to win only one of those seats to take control of the state senate.

Whatever the outcome, these recall efforts will force Republicans to spend tens of millions of dollars just to defend offices they currently hold. That’s money they can’t spend on races elsewhere.

Pushback against this extreme agenda was inevitable and probably expected by the corporate puppetmasters.. It’s the oldest trick in the book. But don’t fix them.. That might mean a tax increase! If the bridge fails, that might mean less Democrats! Might mean less Republicans too but who’s counting?

  86. 111

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@104 Let’s see, the federal government gave the I-35W bridge a “structurally deficient” rating in 1990, but the bridge’s dangerous condition wasn’t apparent until the mid-2000s. It collapsed on August 1, 2007. Now let’s see who was governor all that time:

    Rudy Perpich, Democrat, Jan. 3, 1983 – Jan. 7, 1991
    Arne H. Carlson, Republican, Jan. 4, 1991 – Jan. 6, 1999
    Jesse Ventura, Reform Party, Jan. 4, 1999 – Jan. 6, 2003
    Tim Pawlenty, Republican, Jan. 6, 2003 – Jan. 3, 2011

Where are the Democrats in this picture after Jan. 7, 1991? There aren’t any! Yet puddydope would have you believe that Democrats were to blame for the bridge’s collapse even though no Democrat was governor of Minnesota for 16 1/2 years prior to the bridge’s collapse! What a dope.

The bridge collapsed on Republican Tim Pawlenty’s watch. He had 3 1/2 years to fix it, and its potential for collapse was known for at least 2 years before the event, so why didn’t HE do something? But puddydope wants you to blame it on a Democrat who left office 16 1/2 years earlier! What a dipshit.

  89. 114

In December 2006, a steel reinforcement project was planned for the bridge. However, the project was canceled in January 2007 in favor of periodic safety inspections, after it was revealed that drilling for the retrofitting would in fact weaken the bridge.

Something else lost on leftist morons. And, the NTSB found no fault under Pawlenty. Something lost on the rabbit shithead!

If Obama and the Senate Democrats have any spine at all, they’ll tell them to go fuck themselves.

Democrats WON this fight: Pentagon spending will be cut and Bush’s Tax Cuts For The Rich (TM) will expire in 2013. So why should they give ANYTHING to Greedy GOPers (TM)? Democrats can get what they want without a single congressional vote. All they have to do is go to sleep. And that’s exactly what they should do.

  95. 122

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Let’s review: A Democrat was governor of Minnesota in 1990 when the I-35W bridge was found “structurally deficient.” Repairs were made. The bridge continued to stand. For. A. Long. Time. Dangerous cracks were found in 2005 when a Republican was governor. This time, repairs were not done, because engineers concluded the repairs would weaken the bridge even more. The bridge needed to be replaced. But it was not replaced. Two years later, when the Republican was still governor, the bridge collapsed. Puddydope wants to blame the Democrat who left office 15 1/2 years earlier. Sorry, puddydope, but that wingcrap doesn’t compute. (What wingcrap does?) Geez you’re a fucking idiot. Were you born with the IQ of a vegetable or did someone drop you on your head from a third-story window?

  100. 129

    Roger Rabbit spews:

    Is China A Bubble?

That’s a rhetorical question, of course. China is riding high at the moment, but it’s obvious their economic boom is a bubble. Why? Because the stuff coming out of China is crap. Put on a pair of pajamas with a “Made In China” label and you get a skin rash. Eat anything “Made In China” and you get sick. Absolutely everything that comes from China is toxic, tainted, or adulterated. That’s going to catch up with Chinese exporters, probably sooner rather than later, and when it does demand for Chinese products will drop into a sinkhole. And that will be the end of the so-called Chinese economic miracle.

Keep this in mind when Republicans try to tell you that China is going to take over the world unless we gut Social Security and Medicare to free up money for massive defense spending. That, too, is toxic crap — toxic to our society, and crap in the sense that thinking is as defective as the products coming from China. Their defense spending is about one-tenth of ours. They don’t, as some rightwing screechers claim, own half of our national debt — they own less than a tenth of it. And, for the reasons stated above, the river of money rushing from Wal-Mart to the Chinese central bank soon will turn into a trickle, shutting off their ability to buy aircraft carriers, jet fighters, and ICBMs. Their whole show is smoke and mirrors.

  101. 130

    Roger Rabbit spews:

    Unfit To Eat

It was during the corruption-riddled Bush administration that we really became aware of how bad America’s food supply is. Food recalls and deaths from tainted food products soared on his watch.

(Bush, you remember, wanted to fire federal meat inspectors and give the taxpayer money that paid their salaries to meatpacking companies to hire their own inspectors who would answer, not to federal regulators, but to profit-oriented company managers. And if Republicans get back in, they’ll undoubtedly try to pul bullshit like that again — after all, Romney, the presumptive GOP nominee, is making deregulation the centerpiece of his campaign.)

Well, things haven’t gotten much better under Obama. We still have the same corrupt food inspection system. We still have record numbers of food recalls, and people are still getting sick from tainted and contaminated food. The American food processing industry is one of the least trustworthy of all industries, right down there in the sewer with the nuclear power industry.

I’ll bet you didn’t know that federal regulations allow the food industry to “recondition” contaminated, rotten, and moldy food and sell it to the public, did you?

“Turning imperfect, mislabeled or outright contaminated foods into edible — and profitable — goods is so common that virtually all producers do it, … sources say. ‘Any food can be reconditioned,’ said Jay Cole, a former federal inspector ….

“It’s no secret that the FDA allows certain levels of expected contaminants to remain in foods …. The FDA allows, for instance, an average of 225 insect fragments or 4.5 rodent hairs per 8 ounces of macaroni or noodle products. An average of 20 or more maggots of any size is permitted per 3.5 ounces of drained canned mushrooms, or per half-ounce of dried mushrooms. When it comes to mold, an average count of 15 percent is OK for canned cranberry sauce.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: The bottom line is that you can’t trust packaged food, period. Anything that’s frozen, canned, wrapped, or boxed is probably contaminated with something or other. That’s why rabbits eat only fresh, locally grown, grass and garden vegetables.

Why? Because Roger DOPEY Rabbit made it all up. Half of his DOPEY attacks are made up BULLSHITTIUM!

Maybe Stupid Solution Steve knows when and where the I-35W bridge repairs happened and how they were documented in the Wikipedia entry. He’s agreeing with Roger DOPEY Rabbit. Wait… He’s too Stoooooopid to know.

Maybe the moronic rujax knows when and where the I-35W bridge repairs happened and how they were documented in the Wikipedia entry. He’s agreeing with Roger DOPEY Rabbit. Wait… rujax is a dumb cinder block.

As all can see rujax and Stoopid Solution Steve along with Roger DOPEY Rabbit resort to ad hominem attacks when their FACTS fall flat.
