Johnson was an utter asshole, but he knew how to play the Political game. His Presidency wasn’t about anything but widening the Democrat voting base and doing whatever he thought it would take to do so, for good or bad. The Vietnam War was his baby, the shifting of Federal costs to the States and the resulting increases in local tax burdens.
He bears as much responsibility for the massive expansion of the military-industrial complex as Reagan. It was under Johnson that military-related logistics were shifted from requests of the actual military services to Congress and lobbyists. He took every advantage from Kennedy’s death as he could get away with, without too many people becoming suspicious of his likely involvement in Kennedy’s assassination.

Losing. Get used to how it feels, HA libbies, and you won’t be so inclined to act as a mob.
Then the word will no longer so frequently apply to your ilk.
The best short summary of the Great American Mob Debacle is encapsulated by a recent clip from CNN, in which host Brooke Baldwin reacted in horror and dismay when columnist Matt Lewis accurately described the screaming mob that recently chased Texas senator Ted Cruz out of a restaurant as . . . wait for it . . . a mob.
“Oh, you’re not going to use the ‘mob’ word here,” Baldwin declared. “A mob is what we saw in Charlottesville, Va., two Augusts ago. A mob is not what we saw chasing” — and here Baldwin suddenly changed course, perhaps because she realized that “chasing” sounds suspiciously mob-like. “I’m not saying what they did was right,” she added, before declaring that the “m-word” should be off-limits, given that it contributes to “the weaponization of what’s happening now on the right.”

BETO O’ROURKE, DEMOCRATIC DREAMBOAT, IS GETTING HIS ASS KICKED IN TEXAS
But as Bernie Sanders demonstrated back in 2016, a massive, sustained influx of grassroots cash does not guarantee victory, and the numbers are there to prove it: though O’Rourke certainly has the cash and the press to elevate his profile, he still lags behind Cruz by a considerable margin. The Real Clear Politics average for October places Cruz ahead of O’Rourke by an average of 7 points, citing polls from The New York Times (which has him up by 8 points) and Quinnipiac (up by 9 points), among others. While it’s not the double-digit margin Republicans usually boast in Texas, it’s wide enough that election watchers are largely placing Texas in the “leaning red” category—that is, barring a completely possible last-minute surprise.

Stocks probably will drop a little further this week, but this is technical selling, not a correction. It’s caused by de-risking in the volatility trade, the same thing that triggered last spring’s two corrections. All that’s happened is that stocks are giving up this summer’s gains, and that’s probably as far as it’ll go.
Sluggish bank lending and falling commodity prices confirm the global and domestic economies are slowing. Although investors will react to a worsening economic outlook, this was already expected and largely priced into stocks. However, stocks could weaken further if the economic outlook worsens.
Several of the major banks are near their 52-week lows, and while this reflects a weaker profit position, I think this is a good time to buy them. I picked up some additional bank shares on Friday ahead of this week’s bank earnings.
Trump’s economic policies don’t work. They’re producing a temporary sugar high, that’s all, and wage earnings and consumers eventually will end up paying for his huge gift to the GOP’s billionaire donors. Not all voters will see through this in time for the midterm elections, though, although from what I’ve read even many Trump supporters are (rightly) skeptical of the tax cuts.
Where people are seeing boosts in take-home pay, it’s more likely due to an uptick in weekly hours than Trump’s phony tax cut, which for most wage earners will be largely canceled by rising inflation. GOP political strategy depends on the 50% of the population stuck in the bottom half of the bell curve being too stupid to spot the connection between tax gifts to the rich and inflation for the masses.

“The Boomers as a whole sold us out. They were handed untold prosperity and managed to loot it and fuck the rest of us.”
“So the Boomer generation has grown up knowing nothing but “Keeping up with the Jonses”, loyalty to a company is more important then anything so you get a fat pension, make sure you get yours before someone else does, and always keep others down so you can stand taller.”
“So much this, in fact what seems to stand out as tantamount in everything Boomers have done and are currently doing is fear. I’ve never seen a generation that was so infatuated with this absurdly narrow ideal of what they believe America to be and their terror that anyone would take away what they looted and plundered during their time. …That they have spent the last 50 years convincing everyone that if you haven’t gotten “yours” yet you haven’t worked hard enough while they sit around and enjoy the largest tax breaks, social support and indolent lifestyle possible.”

I effectively pointed out that huge points of there life that were handed to them are completely unattainable to millennials. We have avocado toast and iPhones, they got affordable education, jobs that supported a whole family on one income, decent healthcare that didn’t cost you 15-20% of your income, and affordable homes.
“There’s a lot of Boomer hate here on reddit. Nothing will change them…not even the fact that we lived this part of history but they’re going to tell us what “really” happened.”
“Sorry, but fuck Boomers. Again and again I hear them argue about how great things are for them personally with Trump and how they don’t care what things will be like in 30 years from now because they’ll be dead. We can be angry at them for that. We can also be angry at them for being so fucking guilible and such posers because they want to fit in with that person at work that they buy into trash news articles, Fox News, and conspiracy theories. They got cheap college, cushy jobs with pensions, cheap housing, clean food and water for most their lives, and they return the favor by bitching about their taxes until some new hack politician comes along and gives them another minor tax break while shoveling more money to their corporate donors.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@72, 73 – I think you have to judge people and rabbits as individuals. This Boomer had nothing handed to him. Paid for his own education by working in dirty, backbreaking, minimum-wage jobs. Never belonged to a fraternity, or went to a football or basketball game, just worked and studied. Served in the military, went to war, spent a career in public service. Took two incomes to raise one bunny. Co-owned our Seattle burrow with an elderly relative we supported for 10 years. Totally carried my own freight and never ripped off anyone except Wall Street. Actuaries say I’ll probably get back about what I paid into Social Security, plus interest, which seems fair to me.
But I acknowledge that Boomers on the whole weren’t one of America’s best generations, although we did some things that were great like protesting war and militarism, fighting racism, and creating the environmental movement. Despite Trump and Republicans, America in many respects is a better country today than the one we inherited from the so-called “greatest generation.”*
* Winning WW2 was great, but they did some things that weren’t so great, one of the worst of which was sending my generation to Vietnam and then turning their backs on us when we came home. Also, they were pretty racist, and it was their children who knocked down segregation and made racism disrespectable.

“President Donald Trump is backing off his claim that climate change is a hoax but says he doesn’t know if it’s manmade and suggests that the climate will ‘change back again.'”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Yeah, it will, after you stupid humans aren’t around to fuck with it anymore. But it’s going to take eons to put things back the way they were.

77,
I’ll believe it when I see it.
In a year when dozens of PornSweat incumbents in “likelyRepublican” districts are trailing within the margins, things are obviously “very dynamic” and poised to beak in the final weeks. Late spending could be decisive. And since a majority of incumbent PornFuckers lagged in fund raising, most of them front loaded their spending to buy early poll results and gain some mo.
An early kick can be especially devastating to an unknown challenger. But you gotta have the gas in the tank.

This one’s for you, Evergreen Railfan. Best damn train movie ever. Drag-racing steam locomotives! Collapsed bridges! Bears on the tracks! Russian social relations! Naked women! Moonshine vodka! Drunken two-timing engineers! English subtitles! What’s not to like? Those Russkies sure know how to make a train movie.

78)The Green Party got 17%. Potential coalition partner for the CSU? It happened, sort of, in Baden-Wuttenberg.
They are still counting votes, They vote a little differently than the Federal elections. The Party vote is an open list instead of closed.

“Do you think you treated her with respect?” Stahl asked.
“I think so, yea, I did,” the president said.
Stahl followed up: “But you seem to be saying that she lied.”
“I’m not going to get into it,” Trump said. “Because we won. It doesn’t matter. We won.”

As power hungry as this man is, I thank the holy noodles that he has absolutely no idea how much he has, or how to use it. And that scares the shit out of me. He is an utter, imbecilic clod who is incapable of making any sort of factual statement.
He is just so goddamn flippant about all of it too. We know where Kavanaugh got the idea it was perfectly fine to talk to Senators the way he did. Trump fucking told him to do it. Insult them. Berate them. Interrupt them. Lie and shout them down when called out on the lies. How the hell has that become part of a confirmation hearing for a seat on the Supreme Court? Even 15 years ago this man would have been run out on a rail in five minutes flat.
I really have no idea how Lesley Stahl kept her composure, other than she is a professional who has done worse interviews than this. I would have probably stood up and kicked the man square in the face. Several times.

83) That one. Although, if the 4 ships were built but not delivered, could be like the Kidd class destroyers, originally built for Iran.
