by Darryl — Tuesday, 5/29/12, 3:47 pm

DLBottlePlease join us tonight for an evening of politics, conversation and birth certificate scrutiny over a pint at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking liberally. We meet every Tuesday at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Starting time is 8:00pm, but some folks show up earlier for dinner.

Can’t make it to Seattle tonight? The Tri-Cities chapter of Drinking liberally meets every Tuesday night as well. Also next Monday, the Olympia, Yakima, and South Bellevue chapters of Drinking Liberally meet.

With 232 chapters of Living Liberally, including twelve in Washington state and three more in Oregon, chances are excellent there’s a chapter near you.

Let’s rephrase this a bit.. On whose watch has federal spending grown SLOWER than moron Dumbya, Papa Dumbya and Ronnie “consult the star charts” Raygun?? Hell, make it every Prez after Ike.

    Yes, it leaves only OBAMA..

Obama has indeed presided over the slowest growth in spending of any president using raw dollars, and it was the second-slowest if you adjust for inflation. The math simultaneously backs up Nutting’s calculations and demolishes Romney’s contention. The only significant shortcoming of the graphic is that it fails to note that some of the restraint in spending was fueled by demands from congressional Republicans. On balance, we rate the claim Mostly True.

    http://www.politifact.com/trut.....-lowest-s/

Is this a good thing?? Hell no! The people need taxing and spending. We have a backlog of creaky infrastructure. Spending much more on that could have lifted us out of this Depression by now. Of course it’s the Republican’s fault things are so crappy.

One wonders what would have happened had FDR practiced the same kind of fiscal conservatism as Obama or for that matter, Bill Clinton.

Roosevelt actually was a fiscal conservative when he first took office, perhaps even more so than Hoover. It was only later that he became convinced that only the government had the resources to prevent unheard-of chaos and suffering and get the economy started again. Had he not, we wouldn’t be experiencing an economic slump now commonly referred to as “the worst since the 1930’s”–we’d still be in the grip of the old one! Perhaps bowing and scraping to our German and Japanese overlords as well.

I feel uncomfortable about the word “hero” because it seems to me that it is so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war. I don’t want to obviously desecrate or disrespect the memory of anyone that’s fallen, and obviously there are individual circumstances in which there is genuine, tremendous heroism, you know, hail of gunfire, rescuing fellow soldiers and things like that. But it seems to me that we marshal this word in a way that is problematic. But maybe I’m wrong about that.

Say goodbye to the 99ers. The budget deal Congress made in February is taking its toll on the long-term unemployed. By the end of June, nearly half a million out-of-work Americans will have lost their unemployment insurance benefits. According to official reckoning, some 5.1 million Americans have been unemployed for 27 weeks or longer. That number doesn’t include those who have dropped out of the labor force in despair of ever finding a job.

Along with food stamps, compensation payments through the New Deal-established unemployment insurance program is the main safety net for the jobless and the most effective stimulus to the economy, generating $1.90 in economic growth for every $1 spent.

—A 9.7 percent increase in 2009, much of which is attributable to Obama.

—A 7.8 percent increase in 2010, followed by slower spending growth over 2011-13. Much of the slower growth reflects the influence of Republicans retaking control of the House and their budget and debt deal last summer with Obama. All told, government spending now appears to be growing at an annual rate of roughly 3 percent over the 2010-2013 period, rather than the 0.4 percent claimed by Obama and the MarketWatch analysis.

One Democrat Leftist gaffe after another these days. I thought Dems were high on “sensitivity”? Apparently all of you need sensitivity training. Obama would have been better telling a “pollock” joke than something this horrendous-

    Washington, May 29, 2012 (Jason Reed/reuters)
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk angrily demanded Wednesday that President Barack Obama explain his reference to “a Polish death camp” during a high-profile White House ceremony a day earlier, saying the remark smacked of “ignorance, lack of knowledge, bad intentions” and amounted to “a distortion of history.”
“When someone says ‘Polish death camps,’ it is as if there were no Nazis, no German responsibility, as if there was no Hitler – that is why our Polish sensitivity in these situations is so much more than just simply a feeling of national pride,” the prime minister said.

Tusk bluntly rejected National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor’s expression of “regret” for the remarks and acknowledgement that Obama “misspoke” as falling woefully short of making up for the mistake.
“I am convinced that today, our American friends are capable of a stronger reaction – a clearer one, and one which perhaps eliminates, once and for all, these types of mistakes – than just the correction itself and the regret which we heard from the White House spokesperson,” the prime minister said in a statement posted in English on his official web site.
“We take note of these words, but it seems that it would be even more important for the United States than for Poland to end this with class. That is how one acts with regard to tried-and-tested friends, but this is also how one acts in your own, well-defined interest. I believe our allies are capable of such behavior,” Tusk said.
Obama ignited the diplomatic flare-up on Tuesday as he honored Polish resistance hero Jan Karski and others with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor.
“Jan served as a courier for the Polish resistance during the darkest days of World War II. Before one trip across enemy lines, resistance fighters told him that Jews were being murdered on a massive scale, and smuggled him into the Warsaw Ghetto and a Polish death camp to see for himself,” the president said.
Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski immediately demanded on Twitter that the White House apologize for what he called an “outrageous mistake” and said the ceremony had been “overshadowed by ignorance and incompetence.”Conservatives happily piled on: David Frum, former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, likened Obama’s comment to saying that the African slave trade had been run by Africans.

The shootings today in Seattle… More evidence of how polite society is becoming as people are arming themselves..

Deputy Police Chief Nick Metz and Assistant Chief for Operations Paul McDonagh said that while gang activity has played a role in the 20 percent jump in homicides this year, the common denominator is guns.

“A person who has a gun is more likely to use a gun,” said Metz after the weekly council briefing.

Something in the Zeitgeist, that caused these people to think that the best and only solution is to shoot people.
I don’t mind people having guns, I mind crazy people USING guns.

Yep, today’s Mass Shooting Of The Day (TM) is right here in Seattle — three dead, four if you count the (possibly related) carjacking. But some folks still think anyone should be able to get a gun without a background check and be able to carry it anywhere without a permit.
