Talk radio hosts nationwide breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell threw the book at Scott Brian White, handing him a 20-year sentence for the brutal axe murder of former KIRO talker Mike Webb.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg had only sought a 12-year sentence in exchange for White pleading guilty to 2nd-degree murder, and courtroom observers had speculated that he could have received as little as 8-years, a precedent that some disgruntled listeners might have found awfully tempting. (Only 8 years for taking an axe to Dori? Hmm.)
Fortunately for me and the rest of my radio colleagues, White’s more appropriate sentence sends a clear message that we’re still considered legally human, at least here in King County.
Only 20 years? Why isn’t this axe murderer doing life? Oh, I get it — because he’s not a woman.

blatherwatch raises the question of whether Scott White had an accomplice who has escaped justice due to the incompetence of SPD.
I don’t quite understand why SPD gets away with so much crap and is left alone by local media.
For example, recall when a female cop died in an car wreck caused by a car thief named Neal Kelley. There was a brief blurb in the PI about a woman who said she had found Kelley’s ID in her stolen-then-recovered van. The van-theft victim took the ID to SPD, wanting them to haul in Kelley. SPD totally blew her off, since car theft is not a priority for them. A few days later Kelley killed the lady cop. Either the van-theft story was bogus, or it was buried by the press–I never heard any more about it.
There is a whole litany of crap like this, not just from SPD, but also KCSO and the WSP. Even if reported, it is soft-pedaled. The media just tends to regurgitate whatever the police PR people spout.
If only he would have been a pedophile, he could have been a national hero.
I used to listen to Webb. He once became so angry with a caller he dared him to come down to the studio, because if he did, he’d “get some of this.” Then you could hear a gun dry firing. And Webb then asked the caller if he knew what that was. He was basically threatening to murder one of his listeners.
